He is currently the most dominate player in the French league, and without him, Bordeaux would not have won their championship last year. This season he has just picked up where he left off in May...scoring + creating goals left and right.

He's a very physical, but also technically gifted midfielder with good vision and an ability to score lots of goals. I think he would slot in brilliantly in our midfield and maybe give us a little something we currently lack. He would probably cost around 20 or 25 million pounds, but he is only 23 and could be well worth that kind of money given his ability to win matches. I admit that he isn't proven against tough opposition or at the international level, but you have to think that this is only a matter of time.

Yes, he's special, but he won't be moving this season. Could be a possibility for the next one, especially if Anderson doesn't improve.

Anderson is young and has the potential to be a creative and thrusting midfielder. Carrick's style may not suit us now that we don't have Ronaldo. If anyone should make way for a new arrival it should be Carrick.

Yeah, I'm not thinking this season either, as SAF has said repeatedly that we won't be buying anyone else. I also don't think Bordeaux would want to destroy their team now that the season has started. They would need time to prepare for his departure.

Like you said, next year could be a different story. He's the type of player you would want to sign early in case he breaks out at the world cup. I can't see him staying at Bordeaux beyond the 2010-2011 season though

i think there's room for carrick, fletcher, anderson and gourcuff

Well Fletcher seems to be first choice, the defensive slot will be between him and hargo (and maybe gibson too). For the last spot it won't be three of them competing as anderson and Gourcuff will both need a lot of game time to improve, so it has to be carrick.

Didn't he only sign permanently with them this summer?

I agree with Devil Forever, there is likely to be a buy-out clause in his contract. I think he decided to stay at Bordeaux this year to ensure regular first team football before the world cup.

There are certainly a lot of ifs here. But if Scholes were to retire at the end of the year (which is far from being gauranteed) and Carrick were to leave (which I also don't bet will happen), I think that even the addition of Gourcuff would still leave us a player light. Gibson is promising but unproven, and it's anybody's guess how long hargreaves has left. So if Scholes retires and Carrick leaves we would only have Anderson and Fletcher as proven quality + unlikely to be injured. If you add Gourcuff to that, I think we'd still only have 3 central midfielders we could really count on.

In short, I would say that Gourcuff could be a direct replacement for Scholes when he finally hangs up his boots.

Some bullshit I read in this thread about Carrick leaving if Gourcuff was to come.I'd say Anderson would have to worry the most but anyway I don't think he'll ever sign for United as the transfer fee will be around 35-40M$ and that's way too much to spend.
Besides if you don't build the entire team around him, Gourcuff isn't that great

Gourcuff has a release clause in his contract, and will probably leave after the WC. I can see United triggering it, and Blanc will obviously encourage him to choose us.

I agree about the fee.

TBH It's bullshit for anyone to suggest either Carrick or Anderson would be worried by his arrival. We have enough space for a Gourcuff if we ever went for him. Especially with Giggs and Scholes most likely to be done by the summer.

This is probably what our center midfield personnel would look like if we ever got him: Carrick, Fletcher, Gourcuff, Anderson, Hargreaves & Gibson.

Absolutely - I don't understand people saying we don't have space for another midfielder, when we're likely to lose our two most creative midfielders next summer. Giggs may carry on (albeit surely at a lesser level) for one more season but I just cannot see Scholes playing for us in the 2010/11 season - which means unless we're expecting huge things from Petrucci and Ljajic, we need another attacking midfielder.

i would take him as a replacement for giggs and scholes when they decide to call it a day.

(wtf to all suggesting we need to get rid of either carrick or ando to replace him)

a midfield department boasting fletcher, hargreaves, gourcuff, carrick, anderson, gibson would be unreal.

If play 4-4-2 or 4-2-3-1 regularly, we won't have 6 central players. Gourcuff will come only if Anderson doesn't step up this season . . .

i still believe anderson will end up being playing a far more attacking role for os ala his porto and gremio role, rather than a traditional central midfielder, but that's just me.

I have decided I want him at United. He will in every likelihood be bought by one of Europe's giants (Bayern's replacement for Ribery? Arsenal's replacement for Fabregas? Inter's replacement for the massive hole in the middle of their pitch? Milan again? UNITED? The plot thickens.) after this season and I will probably spend most of hoping it will be by us.

From the little i've seen of him he looks brilliant. What i like is that he's very gifted and physically strong, ala Zidane.

Nowhere near Zidane yet imo. Good player, strong and passes well. Can make some incisive dribbles from time to time but yet to show it consistantly on a big stage. Great consistant season with Bordeux and can only get better there with garunteed starts and a team built around him.

Obviously where near. I was just suggesting there are some similarities in their build and playing style.

He will probably move next summer, i hope we make some sort of an attempt to lure him here. I don't think he will go back to Italy - so the likely destinations are Spain and England. He would suit England, no doubt.

He will stay where he is in January to make sure he gets a world cup spot. If France do well, which i think they easily could, his price will be ridiculous
