Yerry Mina - Everton Player

We need a leader at the back if we're going to buy a CB. Mina is on the same level as Bailly, Lindelof. What's the point?

I guess we just can't get that leader at the back that we want. Spurs playing hardball over Alderweireld, same for Leicester with Maguire (not that he is a leader we are looking for anyway).

Only ever watched him at the world cup. The guy can score a goal. Now only if we had someone who can put in a decent corner.

So is he another one who is just good in the air? He seemed out of his depth in the technical Spanish League, so thought we actually wanted a good ball playing CB. This sounds like desperation and just going out and buying the only CB we can get.

Certainly would feel like we got the last name on the list if this signing goes through. Not that he is a BAD player as such, just that I dont imagine he was above our other central defensive targets.

Refuse to believe we're actually after him. Just don't see the point? He's not a step up, we might as well just keep what we've got.
This! It would finish a very poor window for us. Get your finger out Woody, you bellend.

This is the question I have. We just seem to be stockpiling young players with potential. Maybe Mina will develop faster than Bailly and Lindelof but there's no guarantee of that. The whole point of seeking experienced players this summer was to help the younger ones develop. Since we're not getting that in Mina why buy him?

I admit I haven't seen much of him, maybe he's much more commanding than I think, but it seems a bit crazy to go from being linked to leaders like Bonucci to another up and comer.

You mean scraping the bottom of the barrel. Maybe he will suit the physical PL. As he is another young one, I would rather have gone for Pavard, bit more classy player than a battering ram.

Did you watch all of his 5 games in La Liga?

Guess we're negotiating for both, Mina is probably more gettable.

I don't understand it at all. We have plenty of defenders. If we're going to buy another he needs to be significantly better than the rest. Otherwise what's the fecking point

Whenever I watched him for Barcelona, the NT or Palmeiras I always liked him. Great presence in the air and that is something we have severely lacked. Not sure what he would be like with the ball at his feet in the Premier League, as the Brazilian league and La Liga allowed him more time on the ball.

Put it this way, He is an upgrade on Jones, Smalling, Rojo and Lindelof (so far). So I don't understand why people would be against this.

To be fair, our defenders(except Smalling) are worryingly bad at heading. If Mina is the type of defender who can dominate in the air in both boxes, that would be useful.

Pique is slow and has done allright...

No, Pique is quite slow but with fantastic technical ability. This guy is significantly slower than even our slowest players - perhaps not as bad as Juan Mata - but pretty close. Signing Mina will honestly signal to me that the entire club has lost complete direction and there's literally no point even watching the coming season, except for comedy value. If we sign Mina I really wouldn't be surprised if our better players left.

Maybe the fact he is young and Barcelona want rid as he obviously isn't the future of their defence says something.

It is only useful if we actually had good crossers in the team. How many goals did we concede from crosses?

Thanks. Sounds like you’ve actually watched him more than a handful of times. Has he got good pace?

The only reason they are selling is because they need to. They have too many Non-EU players. The Barcelona squad and management thought very highly of him.

Pity defending wasn't entirely our problem. It is playing it out from the back, transitioning the ball quickly, so hopefully Fred is the answer sent from heaven, putting crosses in, scoring at least 20 more goals and praying Lukaku doesn't get injured.

He doesn’t suit their style and they want to free up a non-EU space in their squad.

I’d prefer Mina to Maguire who would cost at least £65m which is pretty crazy.

He isn't as quick as say Bailly but he isn't a slouch either. I think his towering presence gives off the impression he is slow, and that is not the case. The only weakness he has is that passing is basic, in that he will go for the easy option rather than trying anything silly. Which considering how many of our CB's just hoof it upfront, it would be a welcome change.

Here for example was his Barcelona debut (I think) against Getafe (where he was voted MOM). You can see his aerial presence and the fact he isn't afraid to play high up the pitch when needed:

Below is against Valencia, where he was good but you see his passing is very basic and needs work. So I think this is a fair showing of both his good and bad attributes:

Atletico Madrid did same to Toby Alderweireld. We can't judge players based on which club is offloading them.

Well done on such a stupid post.

Hes really tall and will be an aerial threat from corners at least. Did alright at the world cup. Made 6 appearances for Barca so cant read anything from that. Would be surprised if hes anything special given they're willing to get rid so quickly, requirements or not.

Look, I know we need a RW, RB and creative midfielder also. I am just talking about Mina, As I have watched alot of him :D.

Do not want! Saw him for Barca and he was crap, Harry or Toby are much better.Mina is no better than what we already have and would be a strange buy

They don't need to sell him, they could loan him like they did with Marlon. If they are willing to sell him it's either because they don't rate him, he is going to be sold for a fee that they can't reject or he asked to be sold.

Is Maguire? The main positive is that he likes to carry the ball out of defence, but in a 2 I can't see that being allowed too much, especially as he does lose the ball quite a bit.

Comfortably so. No defender we have at the club is as good on the ball as Slabhead.

Now for the reality let's look at the game where Mina and Barcelona conceded 5 to Levante.
