Worry out we have Pereira this season, who i think is decent set pieces taker.Even if we have all the giants in the world lined up, it won't matter as we often fail to clear the first man

I'd never heard his name before it appeared on the Caf. Anyway, I'd also never heard of Evra, Vidic, twins, Ronaldo, Ole, Stam, RvN, etc...
I don't see queues for Toby or Harry from the likes of Barca, Madrid, Bayern, Juve, or Chelsea. Must they also be rubbish?Football has moved on since then, & clubs have a very good idea of all major players & their abilities, & even minor ones. Where is the interest from other big clubs? Anyway it won't matter even if we sign him, as by the end of the season Jones & Smalling will still be first choice pairing at the back.
Ah fair enough, thanks!I'm going to repeat this, they don't have to sell him, they can loan him if they want or send him to Barcelona B and play him in Copa Del Rey and CL.
I'm still confused at how posters can write a player off after 4 starts for Barcelona.
You know those players who the likes of Inter, Spurs, Napoli, Dortmund etc get for a reasonable price, and we always say "why weren't we in for this guy?"
Hopefully this will be the time we're actually in for the guy.
It would be ridiculous if Barca made triple their money 6 months after buying him.
Then we should just sack all the scouting network and save money. Much easier just to buy the well known names from watching tv and have a merry go round of aging expensive starsFootball has moved on since then, & clubs have a very good idea of all major players & their abilities, & even minor ones. Im still confused why we are interested in a player who made just 4 starts for Barcelona in the first place. Can you imagine if Real was interested in our Blind or Rojo?

That's probably Abdou Diallo for Dortmund.
Such a flawed argument.
This idea that one of our players is bad because Madrid, Barca & Bayern et al aren't interested is so backwards.
It seems hard to believe that we've been extensively scouting him given he's been at Barca for only 6 months. So either we were scouting him before that move, or we decided to scout a player that had just signed for a club. Both seem unlikely to me. I worry we over-estimate the due diligence that goes into some of these moves.
Mina is clearly a 3rd or 4th choice on our shortlist. So yeah it's fair enough.
And yes I can tbh, Barcelona bought Paulinho who was flogged from Spurs and doing nothing in China.
Mina at least is being bought off the back of a very good world Cup showing (playing more than he did under Barcelona?) and is 23.
If they are good then surely they attract bigger clubs right?
No. For a number of reasons
How many players move between Bayern, Madrid, Barca, Juve, Us etc?
The marginal few (I can think of maybe 6 off the top of my head)
If they're good, then they'll stay at the bigger club for the foreseeable. Once they are no longer good enough/wanted anymore then they'll be flogged elsewhere to a club with lower expectations and aren't a direct rival to the big club in the first place.
You say incompetent, but if either the player or the club of the first 3 targets aren’t up for it, what can you do...I don't blame Mou or Mina on this. After all its not his fault that our incompetent club has to dig deep in his list to bring him the player he needs. Hopefully Mou's 3rd or 4th option would be good enough to make a difference. I won't blame Mou if his plan D doesn't work
Biggest club in the world indeed.

If they are good then they attract the big guns irrespective whether they are pushed away from their current club or not. You didn't see the likes of Beckham, RVN, Roby Baggio, ADM (while at Real), James and co moving to Wolves or some mickey mouse league.
Also, Toby expressed his wishes clearly that he wants to move out from Spurs, so I'm not buying that our first choice targets weren't attainable. In that case it would be the manager's fault. However I can't really blame it on the manager if his Plan D doesn't work. We are supposed to be the biggest club in the world. Its about feckin time we act like one.
Which again proves my point - you're talking about the best players in their position at the time.
It's not representative of every transfer because every year Madrid, Bayern, Juve all move players on to the equivalent of 'mickey mouse' clubs too.
Plus, some of our greatest squad players we've had over the years wouldn't have gotten a sniff from the biggest clubs in the world - but for us they performed very well.
It doesn't really prove anything. Mina is closer to the likes of Blind and Rojo then to the likes of ADM or James. You don't see the likes of Blind or Rojo joining Real or Bayern don't you?
Also we tend to hype our 'squad players' alot. The OSheas, the Phil Nevs and the Fortunes shouldn't have been anywhere near to our side. They should thank SAF for being able to take some Ladas, mix them around some ferraris and make it work just the same.

Pranjic/Braafheid and Abebayor/Faubert.
You have a very narrow minded view of what a squad should look like. Key word being squad.
No team in the world is filled with world class players - the whole point of having a squad is so that the best players have teammates who are willing to do the jobs that the best talent aren't able to do to provide balance.

What are your reasons for being excited about signing him?Am I in the minority in that I'm excited we are signing him?
And honestly no...aside from the World Cup, I haven't seen him play much
No one is expecting a team of world class players. However you might not notice but this team is seriously devoid of talent. A yet another squad player wont cut it.
But you would agree that we are in a position where we need to add players at the top of the order, not at the bottom. We already have squad players, particularly in central defense.
Well if he went to Barcelona it means they must have saw something with his ball playing ability otherwise they wouldn't go for him. Him not adapting as expected can happen but the quality might still be there. He looked good in the air and shite on the ball at the world cup.
Perfect for Mourinho, then.
Seriously devoid of talent? Hyperbole much.
