Yeah I’ll say it: The Relegation Thread

No it would have to be relegation and then getting stuck in the Championship for it to maybe force some sort of change. The only way to force them out is a sustained boycott of season tickets/games which would never happen.
Unfortunately this is the ownership model within Premier League and they feel perfectly safe exploiting it. Obviously there are ways of changing that, but that is a nasty can of worms to start opening.

This season is fine, but carry on this form and we'll 100% be in a relegation battle next season, and I doubt these players could fight against an u23 side if there was actual consequences to the game.

We're only lucky that we're essentially safe from anything (wouldn't want too much pressure to be put on these petals would we). Next year will be interesting.

I've seen this written a lot and have never worked out how relegation would mean the Glazers would quit
Club value drops and a sale becomes more likely/feasible I guess. I have joked about this many times but it is in Sir Jim's long term interest, if he actually wants to own the full club, to tank its value from his position now.

I say it quietly but the best thing that could happen to this club would be relegation tbh. If it meant the rats at the top would finally go and most of this squad leaves I wouldn’t be against it.
It would financially destroy the club. We'd be doing a Leeds.

I saw someone yesterday on here say Man. United could lose every single game left and still stay up.

While technically you could be correct that's a dangerous game to play as means you'd finish on 27 points with a terrible goal difference. Wolves then go on 22 points and Leicester and Ipswich on 20 each. Those two play each other on penultimate weekend so chance for the winner to get to 23.

Time and again we see hopeless teams always pick up from March and have decent run ins, Burnley actually did it last season but their first six months were so bad they just left themselves too much to do.

They still ended with 11 points from their final 11 games so similar from one of Ipswich and Leicester and they'd probably get over 30 points.

It is very very unlikely currently. However I do think with your injuries and lack of goals you're really going to struggle to get many away points in the run in. You've also got Leicester away after the second leg of Europa.

Think it will come down to your six home games left so Amorim needs to quickly find a formula that actually gets you some wins at home.

But next year would be a fecking incredible adventure.

Let's win the Europa League and get relegated. Sheffield Wednesday away on the Saturday. Milan/Madrid/Barcelona on the Wednesday. It would be the end of many marriages.

Don't think it will happen but a man can dream.

We're not going down, virtually impossible. But I do wonder if this team would get promoted from the Championship.

Maybe so but leeds are flying high now and likely to come back up. Like I said if it means the glazers/Ineos leave and we get an owner that cares then a proper rebuild can start.

I can tell you now it wouldn't.

The championship is way different in intensity. Most of our squad would die after 1 or 2 games.

Get relegated so we can sell what remains of our soul to what is essentially a nation state. Incredible.

Selling our soul, you say? So if Jassim were to take over the club would you feel as though your soul has been sold and that you and the rest of us are condemned to eternity with Satan, otherwise known in the Bible as the Prince of Darkness, the Ruler of Demons and the Master of Hell?

If it meant Jassim turning Old Trafford into an illegal casino, employing known terrorists and employing criminal tactics to bring in new players, every one of us would be out. But that would be true if Sir Jim or the Glazers themselves were to turn United into a de facto money laundering operation for criminal enterprises. Some of us may not like what goes on the in that part of the world but unless Jassim himself were on a terror watch list (I seriously doubt it, but I'm open to evidence that he is), we need to get off our high horse about how much better we in the US and the UK are than everyone else in the world.

The Glazers are very close to the Trump family and although I don't want to get too political here, Donald Trump is no friend of democracy or individual liberties.

We won’t get relegated but there’s a fair chance we end with less than 40 points or even less than 38 points which generally used to be the benchmark for survival. Completely shambolic for a club of our stature

The Glazers probably don't realise there's such a thing a relegation. Probably think it's like the NFL.

We deserve to be relegated but should just about survive.

In most seasons we would go down playing like this, but thankfully the bottom three teams are outstandingly crap this year.

That said, you never know what could happen if we really can’t pick up any more points before the end of the season.

Yeah definitely deserve to be nearer bottom 4, good job we won narrowly at Etihad, Craven Cottage and the Amad late show against Southampton. Imagine we only had a point or two out of those matches.

The club being owned by a nation state (or being owned by someone that's extremely close to that state) isn't the victory you think it is.

Whether that's America, Britain or Qatar. Nations/countries shouldn't own football clubs.

Chelsea’s former owner being close to Putin nearly caused them to go out of business. Let's be careful what we wish for.

I'm still not convinced Jassim was actually as real person either.

I’m immediately getting my flame shield out here. People will cry that this is a knee-jerk reaction or that it’s hyperbolic or cry-baby, but hear me out because this could happen.

We have scored 28 PL goals this season with 29 points. Of those 28 goals we have; Amad with 6, Rashford with 4 and Martinez with 2 - that’s nearly half of those goals from players who won’t be on the pitch for the rest of the season.

We’ve got 1.16 points per game this season WITH those goals, so where will we be without them?

I was going to look at remaining fixtures etc but frankly it’s too depressing to think about. All I’ll say is that I think it’s a very genuine possibility, as we recently got outplayed by Southampton, so I can’t honestly see any fixture where I’d say “OK well we’ll win that one”.

I think we need to brace ourselves.

It's not a genuine possibility at all.

Two of Ipswich (10pts behind), Wolves/Leicester (12pts behind) would have to overtake us.

None of those teams are on course to get as many points as we currently have based on their performance to date.

The chances of one of those teams going on a run is a possibility but two seems unlikely. Two wins in the next 13 games will likely see us safe from relegation.

Bookies rate Utd relegation 50/1 …so no need to panic
Same odds as drawing a random card from a pack of cards. Not likely but 50/1 shots come in everyday.

I struggle to see where we win a game if football right now but I’m confident we’ll steal one somewhere, probably from a Bruno moment of magic. The problem is I don’t see why we’re going to be better in August
