Yannick Carrasco

Then back to Atletico after 18 months, then off to Newcastle on a 24 month loan, quick 6 monther back at Atletico and then a series of moves within Asia, culminating in a move to Columbus Crew where he plays 7 games in 3 years due to injuries, but falls in love with the place and marries a local.

Forgot this guy even existed. Not heard from him since we was last linked in like 2016 or something

So retro this transfer window.

He’s not very consistent but he’s so skilled on the ball. Fun to watch when he’s on it (which, again, is not frequent enough)

I've seen romcoms that can't hold a candle to this story.
Poetic.

Worse places to fall in love than Columbus

For 25 million…all day long. Much better than Rashford, aggressive, will give squad depth. Him and either Pulisic or Ziyech on loan.

Is he still as quick and direct as he was in his first Atletico spell?

Miles ahead of Rashford as an actual footballer.

Terrorises the full-back all day long on his day and superb work-rate.

Another fecking right footed left winger. How many do we have now?

Luckily, the press's scattergun approach of late means I don't really believe this link.

How many good - even decent - right footed left wingers do we have? None.

His career was over once he went to China. He is not doing much at Atletico
Yeah…you’re right…winning la liga after coming back from China was a real low point. I’d wager you have not even watched him for athletico.

I bet you any money if he signed for us for the next 3 years he wouldn't have a single season as good as Rashford's better ones. Not one.

The Rashford hate is so bizarre. He was absolutely awful last season but before that he's been good for us

I’m talking about current Rashford who is a shadow of his former self. And you’re probably referring to goal tallies when you said “better ones” in regards to his past good seasons. Carassco offers something slightly different. He’s a better dribbler, far more tenacious, better work-rate etc.

If Rashford reaches his former heights then great, otherwise currently I prefer to at least try something different.

Carrasco's form has gone the same way. You are aware, right?

He's bang average.

Completely agree. He’s the very definition of average. The difference with Rashford is that Rashford has the tools, he just seems short of confidence. Maybe I’m reading it wrong, but Rashford isn’t a player o would describe as average. He’s a player I’d describe as very good, playing badly. The question is when that becomes a resignation to it being permanent and him just not being very good. Having seen him at his pomp, I am not there yet. I could accept that he might not kick on to the very top tier of performer, but right now he’s not even doing the basics right and we know he can. He has the yips.

He’s not good enough

Yeah would prefer taking a Pulisic/Ziyech on loan then allows us to spend more on either CM to partner Casemiro (WOW) and young ST to replace Ronaldo when he leaves

Other than him being hardworking what the hell does he provide going forward that we already don’t have?

Feck me, another player we're interested in??

Truely sums up this transfer window

Still only 28, versatile, cheap. I'd prefer a loan for pulisic but I'm not terribly disappointed with this link...we've been linked to far worse this window.
Yes, Arnautovic and Vardy sets the bar pretty fecking low!

Another stop gap player that just does not make sense or is making a difference. I rather play Garnacho there.
We seriously need to stop buying players that don't have the quality and will be bench warmers in now time

I love this "id rather see garnacho there" ovet feck all.

More important question is - what do we have?
Brother, we haven't scored a goal from open play in 180 minutes of football.
And Carrasco is the answer for this? This club really needs to move away from the mentality that the player we are linked is better than the player we have so it’s ok to buy him. That’s shouldn’t be the thinking. It should be more like will this player actually improve us in the ST and can develop more in the LT to help the team over a period of time.

Not every player needs to be a surefire upgrade when the attacking options are threadbare. He doesn't have to be a surefire improvement over Rashford and Sancho but if he is better than Elanga, that already gives us more than we have. Provided he comes for 25M and on reasonable salary, you can always sell him on once you can shop in a higher tier a few years from now.
