Yankees

1 June 07
Boston 36 W - 17 L
NYY 23 W - 29 L

NYY were in 4th place, 12.5 games back and 6 games behind in the wild card race.

Today
Boston 70 W - 47 L
NYY 66 W - 51 L

NYY are in 2nd place, 4 games back and tied with Seattle in the wild card race.

Since 1 June, the Yanks have MLB's best record 43-22. The BoSox are 34-30 in that same span. That's an 8.5 game gap but it could prove too much ground to gain. This despite a much weaker pitching staff than Boston, which owns (arguably) the best staff in MLB.

I'll play devil's advocate for a second here and say the Yankees have had a very easy schedule since the All-star break. We are now going into a tough 2-3 week span that will define our season. The sawks meanwhile have arelativelyeasy stretch of games coming up.

Damn I felt dirty typing that.

So it could be said that Boston had the easier early schedule while the Yanks played tougher competition? The Yanks just swept Cleveland. I think they're ready for the final few weeks. Boston surely has to be feeling the pressure of a huge late season collapse.

Boston has played great ball this year. They have count their lucky stars that the Yanks pitching staff was decimated early on. This should be a great finish.

I agree with you and I definitely think Boston will choke yet again and the Yankees will take the division but look at the schedules:

Our next five series are home to Baltimore, home and away to detroit, away to the Angels and then Boston at home.

Before coming to Yankee stadium the sox have Tampa home and away, Angels at home and White sox away.

If the lead is still four games before the two teams play then i would say Boston will have fecked up but until then I don't want to jinx myself.

All that matter is that we enter the play-offs and win the world series. Boston is just another shitty pitstop on the way there.

My team was out of the playoff hunt by mid-April. But I like the drama that is the New York Yankees. And the inferiority complex of Boston fans makes me want their teams to consistently fail.

blah blah yankees blah blah gay joke blah blah random statistics blah blah first place blah blah *shoots self*

actually, we're all alcoholics.

as proof, here is a drunk red sox fan post:

feck! WE LOST 6-5 TO THE feckIN DEVIL RAYS.... THE WORST ETAM N BASEBALL... DICEK BLOWS IT AS USUAL, WE WAIT TO COME BAKC UNTIL THE 9TH, I WATCH AND SEE IT LOST AGAIN, PATHETIC GAME OVER RSOX SUCK

So hows DiceK been? Haven't had the chance to see him play? Worth the pricetag?

eh, he hasn't exactly been a one hundred million dollar output but he's been quite good and I think can improve greatly.

his record betrays how well he's played; we can never seem to score runs for him. yesterday he was crap though. he always ends up throwing one bad inning per game that costs us. he'll have three walks, and those will all be in the third or something, which will lead to some runs. there are days when he looks truly unhittable though.

I think even next year there will be huge improvement. he maybe has the chance to be what pedro was for us in the past.

argh... what the feck?

that article makes sense. I agree with all the reasons for why they will and won't make it, so basically it proves nothing. that's baseball though. I still don't think they'll pass boston though, regardless of wild card or not. but we'll see. the run-in will be great though.

I'm enjoying playing the Angels though; they're my favorite team to watch just because of their style. but when we play them in LA, the time difference basically negates me watching them. looking forward to the next two.

yeah, me too... one of the current greats, always dangerous.

split the series with the angels; gagne blew one and lack of hitting fecked us over today despite a real good start from tavarez. I'll take these results though. now it's 4 games though w/ the yanks. however, nyy now has to go LA for three, then detroit for three, then home against the sox.
boston has tampa then chicago before that.

Vlad guerrero is a great player. One of my favorites.

Why Yankees management chose Sheffield over Vlad when the latter was a free agent is one of most mind-boggling questions I'll never have an answer too.

Up there with the signings of Jared Wright, Carl Pavano, Kyle Farnsworth, and Jason Giambi, amongst others.

Makes me depressed just thinking about it but its just one of those things.

Angels outfielder Vladimir Guerrero went 8-for-17 in the series against the Blue Jays, and is hitting .305 in 49 lifetime games versus the Yankees, including .324 (24-for-74) with 23 RBIs in his last 19 games against them.

This series with the angels will answer a lot of questions about howweplayon the road against quality pitching.

I agree, it was utter madness to sign Shef over Vlad.

I won't mention signing Damon over Beltran.

Of the retarded signings you mentioned, you forgot Kevin Brown.....ugh. :nono:

The Mariners hit 2 HRs and nearly a 3rd in the first inning tonight against the Twins.

my stepfather claims that red sox fans should be looking at mariners results instead of yankees results. reasoning that we only miss the playoffs if we are passed by nyy, laa, and seattle. maybe that's not a bad idea, but I'm too selfish to want to give up the east.

I appreciate playing tampa right now, our tough as shit schedule earlier in the year as well as in late july is finally through and other than the yankees we mostly face sup .500 opposition. yankees have the second best team in MLB in angels, then detroit, then us. so they'll have to play their ass off, which for the past month they have done, but against poorer opposition.

wakefield is always lights out against tampa and tonight was no exception. four hits all night, good stuff. it's lovely playing tampa. yankees lost to angels in 10 tonight. they still have to face escobar and lackey as well so hopefully they get swept off. unlikely, but they should at least lose one out of the two. bosox facing more shite tb pitching next two games, really should be a sweep. I'm probably gonna keep a running diary of this last month, should be exciting. five games.

Made some good money on the Sawks last night and am probably going to put more on them for the two games coming up as well.

you made good money on betting for the best team in baseball to beat the worst team in baseball (going by records of course)?

Got odds of 1.98 yesterday on Boston winning and 2.23 on Boston at -1.5 today. Won about 30 bucks yesterday and put 20 on them today.

like I said, a series against tampa is just what the doctor ordered. I knew the schedules were gonna even out at some point. only the yankees can give up 19 runs and still hit three homers.

anderson with 10 RBIs. three run shot and a grand slam.

Noy what do you think of the game tommorow? I was planning to put money on it but I just read that Matsuzaka has lost his last 2 starts against Tampa and that Manny will be rested.
