People bought way too much into that.

I was somewhat confused on here when a few brought it up, as even though it does account for a fair amount of space, it won't completely offset things like higher res textures for example. Seemed odd to me that would be pushed, but I guess it was as good an explanation for the small size drives as Sony/MS had.

Games won't drastically rise in size, but they won't drastically fall either. We will see it even out as the non-cross generation games start to come.

Good point, putting small drives is a terrible decision. Even physical copies install huge onto console don't they?

Eventually yes.

Why have they not shown any footage, Brojan?

We not bros. Let’s get that clear and out the way.

Why have Sony now shown the OS? You will get your footage as nearly every journo and influencer has a console now. I expect streaming to start soon.

I've never owned a console in my life, I'm probably below the category of even a casual gamer and I've pre-ordered the Series S. I think it's potentially a great device for someone like me who won't really play a lot of games but yet wants an entry into the console world of gaming at a decent price.

I really can’t wait to see the comparisons between Series X and S from Digital Foundry.

Ryan is the biggest fanboy I have ever seen. Makes even Tom Warren and Jeff look like impartial reviewer

GameSpot review was good. Quick resume is superb feature this gen. If Sony does not bother to release PS5 in my country ( Mostly it seems it will be delayed) and Xbox is available again to pre order , I will go for Xbox first. You can't go wrong with either this time

I wanted to buy the PS5 digital version but given the delays, it appears that they won't be releasing it anytime soon here. I bought the Series S on Reliance Digital.

Really happy to see the transfer time from even a regular 3.1 USB HDD to internal storage is pretty quick. Definitely won't be buying that extremely expensive Seagate NVMe then.

Series S is tempting but for 34k (500$) I felt it was extremely overpriced. It's still available on Amazon so demand for it doesn't seem to be there even in India considering it's almost 17k (250$ ) cheaper than Series X. Series X went in flash before I could decide

Watching Red dead redemption 2 loading time difference makes me want to replay it. Hopefully with patches it will get even faster.

35k is definitely expensive but I had a 5k voucher that was expiring soon and there was an additional 1.7k cashback offer that I used so I feel slightly better about paying around 27k on it. I would have preferred the Series X too but that was wiped out by 10 in the morning

Also, the Series S is available on Amazon but when you actually add it to cart, it seems to refuse delivery in most pincodes which is strange.

IGN said: "More importantly, this thing is quiet. It’s almost inaudible when it's idle, and in Red Dead Redemption 2, for instance, it’s still pretty quiet – much more so than the Xbox One X, which gets noticeably louder under full GPU load."

38 seconds for Red Dead still seems very long....

The game isn't optimized to take advantage of the SSD, so it's just a pure boost based on the specs of the console it's being run on.

Plus, once you've loaded it once, you can keep it in quick resume rotation and jump back to it in about 5-10 seconds from playing another game (then jump back to the other game)

It’s not optimised for the system you plonk. Even better spec PCs would load it at that time.

It seems if you have a USB 3.1 external HDD it won’t take long moving games from external to system. 7 minutes for a 49GB game.

It is first impressions, but it's promising so far. The problem is not seeing a game made or optimised for the platform, we don't get to see what it can really do, and subsequently how the system holds up then.

I assume PS5 has quick resume too - they just haven't focused marketing on it (maybe because it slightly negates the need for quicker initial loading speeds)?

Obviously they are all going to be positive here. But pretty much unanimous that none of them want to go back to current gen consoles as they've been spoilt by the loading, UI speed and quick resume.

No doubt we will all take it for granted within about 2 days and barely notice

I'll conclude this preview with the best news to come out of this venting weirdness: Series X, so far, is the quietest Xbox I've ever tested. Back-compat software runs the Series X to a high enough level to activate the fans and unleash noticeable heat dissipation, but I can barely hear it, even while spending hours in current-gen, open-world romps like Destiny 2 and Red Dead Redemption 2.

I don't know, the load times in Sea of Thieve got so disgusting that I pretty stopped playing.

Apparently OS is 200GB. I guess quick resume is a reason that it’s so high. Austin Evans apparently said you can turn it off.

Where can I get a 3.1 HDD from then. Only see 3.0 places.

If copying a 50gb game is 7 minutes I'm just gonna buy a 3tb HDD. I've been meaning to all this gen so finally going to do it.

800GB is enough for the games you want access to any moment. And then when I am just downloading a game to try it out or because I'm going to a mates house (often when I have to uninstall games, to make space for co-op games I'll play for 1 night) I'll use the HDD and be done in 10 mins. Grand.

I'm assuming the OS will take a similar amount of space even on the Series S? So is that around 320GB usable space then? Will definitely need that HDD

Not sure. Could take up less on the Series S.

But if you play something like Warzone it’s far too less storage.

Be interesting to see if turning off quick resume results in freeing up space.

TBH that's a feature I can live without as I don't flit between games anyway.

I'm just excited to play all the single-player games I missed by skipping a generation. Red Dead, Gears of War from 3 onwards. Hell I still haven't played GTA 5.

Also @wr8_utd Nadal is about to play. So get back in the tennis thread. He needs you more than ever for this French open.

It seems the USB A ports on the back are 3.2 - hopefully that means I can get a fast SSD external drive and cut those transfer times even more. Might be the way to do it!
