I think it will be £399/449, with the disc one £499.feck. Yeah, did not expect £250. Very accessible.
PS5 S at £350 minimum, maybe £400?

Not really the same thing are they so would expect it to be more.
Finally $299 didn't mean £299!
For Xbox S to be £150 cheaper than the PS5 Slim though is pretty big to be fair.. could see Sony lose some market share in UK/US (they'll still sell most in both I'm sure and dominate everywhere else)

Yeah, Sony has got themselves into a position where they'll win anywhere regardless of price. The only possible exceptions to this would be the UK and the US.For Xbox S to be £150 cheaper than the PS5 Slim though is pretty big to be fair.. could see Sony lose some market share in UK/US (they'll still sell most in both I'm sure and dominate everywhere else)
Could see what someone said earlier where people get the S as a second machine to compliment the PS5.
It's a great move for them, it's going to sell at that price. Imagine how many people do not care about 4K or parents that really won't read up on this stuff. They have put a next-gen label on it and made it £250, it should sell itself really.
- Nearly 60% smaller than Xbox Series X
- Custom 512 NVME SSD powered by Xbox Velocity Architecture (like the SX)
- 1440p at up to 120fps
- DirectX raytracing
- VRS
- 4K streaming media playback
Wait, a minute, the Series S has a 500gb SSD. That's why it's so cheap!
500gb, that's a downside but it keeps the cost down doesn't it. Next gen though, thats probably like 3 games on the SSD.
It's great but I imagine most people would want 4K now?A 1080p console with a built in Boombox for €299 is pretty good to be fair.
Yeah. Does gamepass include the big games like FIFA, GTA etc.? Sounds perfect if that's the case.I think for people like you the S is perfect as it’s a cheap entry point and with gamepass you’ll have access to a ton of games for a small monthly fee.
Speaking to GameSpot, Jason Ronald explained that Series X’s hardware decompression allots as limited space as possible on the SSD for games to consume. It significantly drops all CPU overhead typically associated with run-time decompression. “This includes BCPack, which is designed specifically for compressing texture data that often is one of the largest contributors to overall game size… to help compress the actual size of the assets,” he said.
The newest Xbox console will provide players with lots of efficient features. These will enable them to choose specific gameplay elements they wish to install. Players can unclog some extra GBs from the SSD by not installing unused languages or unpreferred game modes, among others.
Developers can also take advantage of a platform feature to only install the pieces of the game players need, thereby minimizing the amount of content that needs to be installed or downloaded to the SSD.
We’re providing a lot of tools to help them be more efficient,” Ronald continued. “If you’re on an English console, [you shouldn’t] be taking space for French or Spanish audio files, things like that.”
I dunno, I imagine we'll all be surprised at the amount of people who couldn't give a toss about having their games at 4k vs 1440p in the fact of a console that's half the price that they can just play FIFA/COD on and avail of a service as good as Gamepass. It's great but I imagine most people would want 4K now?
It's slightly less powerful in terms of GPU compared to Xbox One X but It's CPU is way faster and on par with the more expensive next gen version, Xbox series X. It should run all the next games at 1080p whereas you can't guarantee the same for last gen consoles including Xbox One X because of differences in CPU and rest of the specs. As someone dipping into this topic for the first time, what's the difference between this S console and the more powerful last generation Xbox? Is the new one more or less powerful than the older one?

Just look at the PS3 and 360 - price is what matters, not performance.
Yeah sounds right but that was more due to the PS3 being a total bitch to develop for wasn't it? It definitely caught up as the years passed by. Still, on paper it was definitely the more impressive machine of the two and I remember there being a big kerfuffle about the fact that it had Bluray and the 360 didn't. The 360 won early on because it came out first and because it was way cheaper.360 performed better than PS3 though. Won nearly every digital foundry contest. I remember Gabe being so annoyed that he outsourced orange box on PS3. Didn’t bother with left 4 dead on it and then made up with Portal. Skyrim was another game that ran bad on the PS3. There were a few exceptions like GTA 5, but most games ran better on 360 which was also the cheaper console.
Uhhh, just buy an Xbox controller and plug it into your PC then! Works wonders.Damn. That console looks nice, and at £250?
I have a PC and subscribe to gamepass, so I don't think I have much use for one of these... do I? I do miss playing some games with a controller over mouse and keyboard...
The Xbox One was $499 when it launched and was priced at £429 in the UK. I would guess they would follow suit again.299 and 499 in dollars. So most likely £449, if we following that.

I'm such a fool. I honestly had no idea they were compatable, which is pretty dense considering its a microsoft device. Thanks!Uhhh, just buy an Xbox controller and plug it into your PC then! Works wonders.

I think they will probably keep it at 1440p because the Gpu isn't quite as powerful as One X and they've marketed Series S as 1440p system so, it makes sense to limit it and just use the extra power to boost the FPS.If it runs last gen games via gamepass, are they locked to 1080p too? I assume they're 4K at the moment on One X...?
