Xbox 360 or PlayStation 3

I would go with PS3 at the moment but that's maybe because I'm quite pissed about getting the Red Ring of Death just this morning. Error code E74 whatever the feck that means.

I have both. Got my PS3 about 2 years ago, the 360 just before Xmas last year.

360 hardly ever gets played, and I'm selling it soon.

PS3 is where its at.

it means you need to ring assistance and have the console sent to germany for repairs

One of the major differences is that there are some very weird but totally wonderful Japanese games on the PS3, if you are into some of these niche things it's something the XB360 normally never gets.

Examples are:

And this crazy new Zelda like game called 3D dot Game Heroes.

There are a lot more of them as well.

I have a XBOX, and I'm happy with it. I do notice the games are cheaper (old games at least)

That said, i chose it because it was cheaper, if they were aroudn the same price, I probably would choose PS3.

Gotta agree with smash-e. I love my xbox, which was a gift from the missus, but if I could afford a ps3 I'd have one.

I reckon I might get a PS3. Don't really know anything about it, or what the standout games are besides the new Metal Gear Solid's and the God of War series, but it's about I stopped being a PC snob. May just end up getting an old Playstation or Playstation 2 instead.

Buy what your mates have got, there's no point in either if you don't have anyone to play online with.

So, after 3 years, and without getting nasty, are we all of the sensible opinion that the PS3 is the better bit of kit, or do we need the release of God of War 3 to finally bring some of you kicking and screaming into the real world?

Har har har!

I have both....A PS3 since launch and an Xbox since a few months ago.

I will admit, the Xbox is fantastic and great for its price these days, and LIVE is very good.

But if we're talking as a piece of kit the PS3 is just the bees knees....it does everything and despite my very good friends all being on the 360 I still use the PS3 more.

Each to ones own though....I can't be arsed to get into these console wars anymore....in the end they're both brilliant in their own little way I just feel the PS3 offers that bit more.

I will say though my new Xbox is certainly quieter than my PS3, allthough that could do with me needing to clean the blooding thing out

Oh, I agree, but when you go back two or three years, all the XBox owners were laughing and talking bollocks, and ho ho ho, it's now time to eat some crow. Because there is nothing on the XB360 that looks like Uncharted, Uncharted 2, Ratchet, God of War, Wipeout HD, GT5, Killzone 2, the list goes on.

They really need to redo that old ad with this track.

I have both and my main gripe with the PS3 is the download times. I put in heavy rain last night and it took 2 hours to download the patch before i could play it. Downloading Final Fantasy 8 took 6 hours. The games are great though, once you've downloaded all the patches, and having a blu-ray player is a big plus. But i still use my xbox for more multiplayer games as i have more mates with that console.

My PS3 is basically an exclusives and blu-ray playing machine.

My PS3 games:

Ratchet and Clank: Crack in Time
Uncharted 2
MGS4
Heavy Rain
Flower
inFamous
GOW collection
Little Big Planet

I've had no problems with the download times. I downloaded FFVII in an hour. I downloaded 3 games the other day totalling 1gb in about 40 minutes with my 5Mb connection.

Thing is i have no problems downloading off anything else. If i download off the xbox it's pretty quick, same on my PC, but on the PS3 it takes an age.

And FFXIII? ;)

As for download times, that's probably because you updated on the day of release, so the servers were getting hammered. It's nothing to do with the PS3 itself, rather the capacity built into PSN, which won't be PSN for much longer. Sony reorganization shuffles names, but doesn't mess with the games

Ha ha!

The PS3 has an ethernet port at the back of it that is 1Gbit. Input and output through the machine itself is not a problem. Ok, you can moan about PSN, but it's free.

I've looked at your gifs, (the eye out of the cyclops was nuts) don't want to spoil the fun with too much footage watching.

It does look... i think epic is the word but it seems too small. Though i want to find out why he starts fighting against the Titans.

Have you tried going through the configuration on the PS3 again?

Settings > Network Settings > Internet Connection Settings.

I have both. I download and play pretty much any decently rated XBOX game, and use the PS3 for Blu-rays and the games I play online - best of both worlds really

Undeniably the PS3 has had some great exclusives this year, but i still think the Xbox is the only serious gaming machine of this generation and has a far better community.

However going forward, i really think MS need to address the lack of blu-ray player if they are to continue to compete. I mean 4 DVD's for games is just ridiculous.

I'm still very happy I got a 360 over a PS3 as I would probably never have encountered the masterpiece that is the Mass Effect series.

I do have plans afoot to get a PS3 eventually for the exclusives but there is no way I'll justify spending that sort of money for just a few games

I don't even think 4 DVD's for a game is a problem really. We saw it with the PS1 with the FF games which spanned 3 and 4 discs, and it was never a problem. It becomes a problem when you have to cut things out/lower the quality of the game to make it fit on a reasonable number of discs. Off the top of my head I think the 360 version of FF13 contains 18.6GB of data over 3 discs, whilst the PS3 version has 38GB of data on 1 disc. That's half the size! All you need to do is look at the screenshots of the games and you can see the difference. All the previews have said the PS3 is by far the better version also.

I remember arguing with the likes of you and RedKaos a couple of years ago over the need for Blu-Ray, why I didn't mind paying extra and why ultimately it would be needed, but you laughed it off if I remember correctly and called me an idiot. Looks like now only 1 of those is true.

I wonder if we will see a 2 disc PS3 game before the PS4.

Am I right in saying the PS3 can handle upto 100GB on Blu-Ray through an update?
