Xavi (Spanish Lego Pep) | Manager watch

Yeah I think he’s alright. Respectful towards the club and players

As others have noted above, when he was a player he indicated more than once that he had considered joining us at one point, we were his team in England, etc.

On the basis that there's no harm in having top level managers knocking around who like your your club, I slightly hope he does well at Barca. Even if he is a bit of a cnut in other ways.

Acts like a right little wanker on the sidelines, but to be fair, he's always been very complimentary of us.

I like him, he is a bit of a moaning bastard but that’s the standard for anyone spending almost their entire career in Spain (and Barca in particular). Nowhere near as annoying as pep and arteta. I guess the fact that he’s called united his favourite English team and loved Scholes helps.
Saying that I hope he fails miserably at Barca as I cannot stand them.

I dont get the hate for him. He is always very respectful when talking about United.
To be fair, I think Barcelona and United have always had good respect for each other. I don't recall the finals ever being those diving, shithousery games that you often saw against the likes of Madrid, Chelsea, and others in big European games.

A lot of mutual respect between the clubs. Fans weren't even jeering us like they usually like to do at the Nou Camp.

Xavi seems to be doing a good job, but it's very hard to judge the level of La Liga right now. They have an unbelievable defensive record in La Liga, but we looked like we could have scored a lot more last night. Outside of Lewandowski, their attack looks nothing special at all either.

That would have quickly changed if the games were a little closer.

His record in Europe is absolutely dreadful. Lego Pep indeed.

So long you beardless garden gnome.

They’re only paying consulting fees for guidance for the Spanish refs. It’s only natural he’d struggle with neutral refs. Give him a break.

And yet, they are the best defensive team of all time statistically, and could well take the record for total points as well.

Something ain't right with this world.

Xavi is missing pedri/gavi/dembele tonight and had 3/4 of his backline injured this season during the CL group stage. Smoked Real Madrid.

He definitely needs to work on his record in Europe but he's also been dealt a rough hand. His lack of subs today until too late was poor.

They were missing some players but they just did not cope well with our pressing and actually didn't create too many clear attacks. I thought during the game that if United had a top centre forward (with Rashford on the left) Barca would have really struggled. There was just so much space in behind them at times and they did not look comfortable with runners. Someone like Kane would have slaughtered them.

I liked him as a player and I like him as a manager. But I also really like to see him pull out the sad droopy face he did at the end tonight. It's up there with totally shocked Klopp.

Dealt a rough hand with a jammy goal in the first leg and the softest peno you'll ever see. OK.

yes but pedri and Gavi and dembele and it’s a much different match but still, united deserved it

I think that’s more of a reflection of how poor La Liga is now.

I’m not convinced that’s valid. They had Pedri and Gavi start last week and were still outplayed. Meanwhile we had the best defender in Europe missing.

Outsmarted in both legs but ETH is no easy opponent to take on especially if your major weapons are out. Too early to judge him yet.

One of the jammiest goal I have ever seen and another financed ref. Still came short, couldn't have happened to a nicer bunch.

Barca fans on reddit seem quite divided over him. Half of them think he's done a great job considering where they are in the league, the other half want him upgraded on account of his really poor showing in Europe.

Somewhere in the nou camp there is the creaking sound of another lever being warmed up…….
Dumbledore will sort it out!

Think he's their version of Solskjaer / Arteta, I think he'll end up more Arteta than Solskjaer though. He's inexperienced but they're on the right path with him.

I like Xavi, he is an impressive coach. Already won one trophy, lets see what happens the rest of the season.
Me too, has a lot of potential. Also thought he was very respectful and classy about us in the build up which, a lot of manager's haven't been like that with us very often in the last decade so he's gone up a bit in my estimation.

Feels glorious being able to say this about our manager for a change.

All in all, I do think he's done a good job. They were ninth when he came in last season, and they're gonna win La Liga this season. Albeit, Real have been very erratic in the league.

Harsh to compare him to Ole. He seems to actually have an idea on how he wants his team to setup. Yes his approach can be naive at times with little to no plan B, but you could see what he's trying to do with the team. Unfortunately you couldn't say the same about Ole, whose whole approach was vibes and hit them on the counter. Arteta is a fair comparison.

Yeah that's what I like about him, he has class as an individual. I like how his team plays, he has done an excellent job. One to watch for sure. This man could go far in the game. I would put my money on him going far.

I agree, I just meant it in the sense of a young iconic player-turned manager trying to rebuild his club to their former glories moreso than on their managerial capabilities, he's got a lot more about him tactically than Solskjaer for sure.
