Xavi (Spanish Lego Pep) | Manager watch

He is not fit to be spanish lego Pep yet. He is more a spanish lego Arteta.
So the correct is: spanish lego lego Pep. Or maybe spanish lego^2 Pep. Or spanish (lego Pep)^2. I'm not sure about what would be correct in english.

spanish lego^2 Pep =/= spanish (lego Pep)^2

Xavi is definitely not Pep^2, so the first one is the correct expression. Now, lego squared is frightful, I think...

Pep has never managed a team as poor as this Barcelona team. I wonder how much better this team would even do with Pep at the helm. Probably wouldn't do any better really.

Standard procedure. If you visit certain countries you get more scrutiny when applying to enter the US on a visa.
It’s still stupid though, the border agent was basically on a power trip. Does anybody seriously think that Xavi of all people pose any threat to US national security?

Does seem a little daft given arguably the biggest threat to security in the US is the possession of firearms from its own citizens!

There is a tiki taka joke somewhere in here

But I don't think he was even allowed to leave Spain for the US as of the time this news came out. It may have been an issue with the embassy requiring additional information on his contacts in Iran, in order to issue a visa. It's not about Xavi solely.

Can't disagree with this.

There's room here to laugh at Barcelona, as they should have planned for this ahead of time.

Side note: I wonder how this will impact people coming in for the 2026 WC.

It is not about, if this is a stupid rule or not. it is embarrasing, that Barca's travel management didn't know or wasn't prepared.

Debt/fair play or not, if Laporta signs Koundé as well, Xavi will have one of the Top5 European squads for 22-23. No excuses; having Lewa/Pedri alone means that Xavi must win LaLiga against a decadent Atlético and an "Mbappe-less Madrid". And probably reach the UCL semis.

Pressure is on.

This is a good point.

Many people had assumed Barcelona would adopt a more conservative strategy in order to get out of their financial issues and would also allow Xavi to develop his style despite as long as he kept them within top 4 and showed some progress. However this transfer window has been a significant investment with money they don't have in order to remain relevant and competitive in all fronts. So this changes things completely and there's more pressure on him to deliver.

I agree if we get Azpilicueta and Koundé and don't win at least La liga then Xavi is definitely no Guardiola 2.0.

I don't think he'll ever crack the top bracket of elite managers but people are being too harsh, Madrid just won a league and European double and while they're old their quality is miles better than anything Barcelona has on offer.

They have Ancelotti though, if there's an elite manager who can drop a league title it's him, after all he managed it in France while coaching PSG.

I've been pretty harsh on carlo regarding his league record but aside from his time with juve he ain't that bad too be honest, if they keep performing to their optimal level they should still break the 85 point barrier which should be enough to snatch them the title.

But yeah, they're still Madrid so a mid season meltdown is not out of the equation, ancelloti unfortunate history in regards to those mid season meltdowns doesn't help matters either.

I think they will win the league this season. Xavi's football is very enjoyable and similar to Arteta and ETH's style. He has also already implemented it pretty well. Madrid aren't that good even though they had a very successful season. With so many new signing Barca should be much stronger than they were last season.

Are we watching the same Arsenal?

I agree completely and nothing to add there, I just wanted to stimulate the discussion. :)

We trashed Madrid 4-0 without the great players we are getting this summer. They weren't much better than us under Xavi last season we got almost the same number of points than them after Xavi took over. If we get a couple of good defenders I'd actually say our squad is better.
They aren't as good as they seem. Massive luck got them the Champions League. They didn't play better than City, Liverpool or even PSG. I actually hadn't seen a Champions League winner so underserving since Chelsea in 2012.

One off games exist and there are countless examples to choose from, you lot were barley europa level last season and I'm not expecting a lot to have changed even with the new additions, hyping up yourselves like that will only lead to disappointment.

No such thing as undeserving CL winners.

You might wanna check Real’s route to the final vs Liverpool’s…

And besides, anyone that beats Liverpool in a CL final deserves 2 CLs in my opinion.

Barcelona going back to europa league after spending a shit ton via levers would give me a lot of joy.
