WWC23 | England v Spain - Spain win the World Cup - and Rubiales gets sacked

I thought it was a great call, attacker was offside and blocked defender being able to block the shot. It was a very clear offside once shes deemed to be offside as shes 100% interfering.

How the feck are you offside if you are standing in front of the defender who are closer to the goal? Thats my big problem. Thats just absurd, its nitpicking and ruling out a goal 99.99% of people would never protest.

I haven't seen the incident but you do know the offside rule says there must be two players between you and the goal? That doesn't always include the goalkeeper...

Here is the look, Canada defender has body position on AU striker - the whole body of the Canada Defender is behind the AU player. In this case common sense should prevail, you should never be offside if you a defender is standing behind you.

I think the Aussies have got this sorted. I'm heading to the Ireland match.

Nigeria must be desperate to score and avoid England? While still not conceding a goal? They will be out in the playoffs if they dont win against Ireland anyways :D Vs England they are fecked, and the rest of the England group teams are sh1t. So Nigeria should go full on attack!

Diane Caldwell ready to come on for Ireland. Former United player.

4-0 and Australia haven't even had to press the panic button and bring on Sam Kerr.

How about United buy some japanese players and recruit some japanese fans? They are very nice people to interact with as well, incredible polite.

Great to see. I was worried they would rush her back if they got into a sticky situation.

I keep pushing for that idea. The number of male Japanese performing well in Europe is increasing while the younger generationg of female Japanese players is coming through. They won't cost too much for most of the time as Japan wants their players to thrive abroad and then carry their knowledge into the national team.

Be careful in using the word "Jap" though. It has long been and still is considered derogatory in the same way the Japanese now see the word "gaijin" (foreigner) with a negative or pejorative connotation instead of the more neutral "gaikokujin" (foreign-country person) when referring to a foreigner.

I had no idea it was any different from calling me a swede for example. Maybe thats something I should take into consideration then.

And also Japanese players bring TONS of fans, which the Womens team surely needs to grow even more on social media etc, its big business on there as well!

What the feck happened to Canada? I thought they’d go through this group

Someone might get mad at me for this, but why do they not have smaller goals and a smaller pitch? The size is simply to big, especially the goals. The goalkeepers cant save shots simply because they arent above 175cm.

Has this even been up for debate?

Group E winner plays Group G runner up and vice versa. Sweden are likely to top Group G so coming top of Group E is a definite advantage.

There are no guarantees in this group, even though there is a clear leader. England still need a draw to go through but will top the group if they get it. Denmark should beat Haiti, but Haiti made it hard work for China and England.

Group winner will play Nigeria. Runner up will play Australia.

Fkin bummed the US and Netherlands games are on at 3am local here. Could be some good drama. Seems very unlikely the Netherlands doesn't beat Vietnam but US-Portugal could be epic.

Lets bring team USA against sweden, we would send USA packing no doubt and it would be so sweet

Netherlands should hammer Viet. I’d imagine they want to top the group so probably need to score 3+, possible 4 or 5.
Hopeful Haiti can upset Danes but think they might struggle having to chase a win compared to the first two games.

The Netherlands are already up by 2 goals against Vietnam inside the first 11 minutes. Still 0-0 between Portugal and the US as of now.

Jéssica Silva, dear oh dear! She had all the space in the world to get closer to goal and take a better shot on target instead of whiffing it wide from so far out.

edit: Netherlands 3-0 Vietnam now.

Yeah, that was terrible.

Hard to see Portugal winning this, but easy to see the US ending up in second in this group.

Netherlands 4-0 Vietnam

Lavelle gets a yellow and she was already on a card from a previous game so she'll miss the next match.

Really nice performance in the first half, shame about jessica not keeping her cool when she was all alone...

USA just need to draw really don't they? Don't do anything stupid and get caught on the counter and get knocked out.

Which stat is leading, goal difference or head to head result? (Is Portugal through if they win).

Portugal go through if they win. Netherlands now looking like a good bet to top the group.

I really wonder: are Portugal even aware of what is at stake right here? They need to start shooting at Naeher's goal instead of carrying on such useless possession at 0-0 with 10 minutes to go.
