WSL fantasy league | open season on transfers

Huzzah for another Tullis-Joyce clean sheet! The Phallon D'Or marches on(ish)!

Flexo's Fantasy Femmes (63) and The Phallon D'Or (60) both did well this week and climbed to 3rd and 4th in the table. However, TheDemonBarbers leapt two places to 16th with an impressive 73 points, thanks to the use of the bench boost. It would/should have been more but for the ridiculous penalty awarded to Everton.

I'm not sure about everyone else, but I have six United and Chelsea players still to add on to the current game week. I'm hoping for a clean sheet for us and goals from Maya and Millie.

@Demon Barber having lulled the rest of League into thinking they pose no danger is indeed rising steadily up the table. It's like a Pep Guardiola team slowly hypnotizing its opponent by rocking the play from side to side, before suddenly surging forward.

Chelsea v United is going to be the wild card now. I've also got 6 players in this game. Someone, probably someone who remembered to choose their Captain correctly could do really well.

Chelsea goalless (preferably with a penalty save by Phallon but that might just be me being greedy) and a goal for Maya or Grace would work on multiple levels.

I have no idea what will happen to my team this weekend, too many Utd and Chelsea players for me to work out what is best. But, obviously, a win for us will be best!

I think the tables have finished updating now and the race is heating up. In particular one manager who initially had lulled us all into a false sense of security is starting to attack.

Star of the week (fortnight actually) was undoubtedly the league's own founding member - @Demon Barber who got a mighty 102. Is that our first ever triple digit management performance? Does this prove that @Demon Barber is in fact a professional FF hustler masquerading as an innocent? I'm saying nothing - just suggesting that the evidence is building.

That said, Boujee Tea FC delivered 94 points and several other players were in their 80s. I suspect some people are refining their team as the season goes on. Whereas others (not mentioning any names but Tooney Town may be a useful example) are starting to fade.

I would have been in the 90s had I not gambled on our own performance and left Millie Bright on the bench... 16 points down the drain! Otherwise, reasonably happy with The Phallon D'Or's slow creep up the table. Helped in no small part by Phallon herself of course!

I wish it did prove something ... other than good fortune. However, despite not being a FF Hustler, I am still out to catch you. I am only 120 points or so behind and I was 300.

My team for the 8th of December is locked in and loaded. Will Tooney Town wilt with the pressure at the top? Can both Phallon D'Or's maintain their steady climb? I just hope we stuff Liverpool 7-0.

My team for the 8th of December is locked in and loaded.

You see - this is a problem for me. In my imagination - I'm the kind of FF manager who keeps an eye on the international break, looks at who travelled long distances, who played lots of minutes and who got injured. Then takes that into account and does the last minute transfers and formation to match.

I'm not. I scramble for transfers with ten minutes to go, don't save the formation until it's too late or almost too late and forget to check who my captain is. C'est la vie.

I just hope we stuff Liverpool 7-0.

:+1:

It's time to peruse and to ponder and ultimately of course, forget to update your team. Nonetheless there's a principle here. Managing your team - may change your odds of winning.*

I’ve gone for the wall this week, because why not? McCabe, Neville, Bright and Greenwood, with PJT - I might do well with that! And as I have bottled having too much bravery, Shaw is captain again…

Attack wins games, defence wins championships!

A few injuries to popular FF players to add to the list.
Lauren Hemp has had surgery, out until after the Christmas.
Fran Kirby (calf injury) and Chloe Kelly (in concussion protocol) weren't available for England on Tuesday night, so could well be absent this weekend.

Speaking of absent this weekend - well it's anyone's guess of course.
However, some players did travel a long way and play twice over the international break - like Bunny Shaw.
Ramirez was away with Colombia and went off after playing for only 3 minutes. I've not seen an injury update.

There's also a lot of midweek football next week, with WCL and WSL Cup matches taking place.

Yes, I know, too much information. Happy guessing.

And all of this news is why I picked my team ten days ago, so I did not have to worry. That said, it will probably be the reason why I slump this week.

I think I have triple captain for Shaw, so I hope she is fit and raring to go.

An excellent week for They Simi Rollin' (79) in their push for top spot, and for Zebra United (75) in their fight to get out of the relegation zone.

Tooney Town and Flexo's Fantasy Femmes (both 73) are simply not dropping enough points though - it's like they have gone all Mourinho.

The Demon Barbers (71) continue their.late resurgence and are eating into the lead of the teams immediately above them in their quest for a place in Europe.

This is a strong league though, with 14 of the 20 teams scoring above the weekly average (50), and another three sides marginally below. Well played to all.

Let's face it, captain Bunny Shaw's goals and vice captain Phallon's clean sheets are doing a lot of the heavy lifting for my team!

They Simi Rollin' continues to edge towards top spot, gaining a little more ground each week. It's the inevitability that's striking, plus with Nusken and Casparij as the team's top point scorers this week - their scouting ability is remarkable. I don't know who Virta Virta is but I reckon they've got skills.

@Demon Barber continues to climb through the rankings - this time with a team assembled before the deadline clock even started to get wound up. As I've said before - all the hallmarks of a FF hustler toying with the rest of the league.

Same as me Flexo's Fantasy Femmes are getting a lot of mileage from Captain Bunny and from Phallon. Clearly this will create a conflict of interest when City play United after the Christmas break - something will have to give.

BREAKING news:
Bunny Shaw is injured, still under assessment according to City but not expected back until the new year.
Alex Greenwood was stretchered off last night with what looked an ACL injury - nothing confirmed yet.

Arsenal, Chelsea and City have European matches next week so there may be some extra rotation there. All three have qualified but they're all playing for top spot in their respective groups.

Nice, have both of them in my team. Of course the most devastating news is the (potential) injury of Greenwood. It could (or would?) mean she misses the Euros.

With Bunny Shaw out, Ramirez takes the armband and fails to score, naturally. However, times like these I no longer care about Fantasy Football, amazing job from Leicester and Chelsea finally drop points!!

Yep. My Chelsea trio have really let my FF team down.

But, but, but - Chelsea are not invincible! It's easy to forget that football reminds you that it's football sometimes

I got 9 points from my three Chelsea players, but am happy to see them drop points.

I subbed in Russo for Shaw and made her captain rather than Ramirez - so, happy so far. I've also used The Wall this week, but no idea what it actually does!

It looks like Arsenal and Chelsea have a double match gameweek next week?

Not sure why they would. City, Arsenal and Chelsea are all playing in the Champions League next week.

After this weekend, I don't think there are any WSL matches until the 18/20 January block. Maybe I've missed something.

I didn't understand it either, but when I click on Formation it says e.g. Ramirez WHU (a) ARS (h), Russo CRY (h) CHE (a), whereas for Le Tissier it simply says MCI (a).

It makes no sense to me.

Ah, got you - I can see it in the app myself now. Don't know really, maybe some games are going to be moved to fit the CL knockout schedule. I've not seen any discussion of it myself. Wait and see I guess?

Arsenal manager doing rotation subs at 58 minutes again. I swear they must be doing some side bets on the FF

FF - 60 points. I'll take that! #hustler ;)

Indeed @Demon Barber continues to climb the places - their eventual triumph becoming an inevitablity as they stop pretending to be just any random FF player and start attacking.

Other big scorers this week are Boujee Tea FC, Dot's Stars and Liz's Lovely Runners.

Meanwhile those of us who have been doing well with Chelsea and City players stumbled around looking for points and managers who heard about Shaw and Greenwood's injuries in time for the deadline scrambled for options - with more or less success.

At any rate - enjoy your winter break and think of all those lovely transfers you can make. Refresh your team? Throw them all away and start again? It's open season on transfers.

Its just a bit of fun, but I'm thinking of doing a FF Cup competition based on the current league positions. It's a bit like the CL/Europa format.

The top 12 are already through to the last 16. The bottom 8 (including me) will play head-to-head games in GW 11 to produce a last 16.

GW12 will be the round of 16, GW13 quarter finals etc. All ties will be drawn (by me) at random.

In the (unlikely but possible) event of a draw the match will be decided by a) Captain's points, b) VC points, c) GK points. Then I'll toss a coin!

Thoughts?

Afterthought - if a GW is a double GW then results will be void and the next round will be the week after, if that makes sense.

Sounds great, cracking idea!! I look forward to crashing out in the first round!

I’m in! And like @AmarilloMike I expect to be out soon too!
With some star players out injured, and teams conceding left right and centre (apart from us) I will be pretty unpredictable I think

Shows how unobservant I am, I guess.

Just checked out Phallon D’ors team, somewhat similar to mine - looks like we have half a dozen of the same players.
Do I play it safe, or go for some wildcards??? Kudos @Demon Barber , this has certainly spiced it up!

@jojojo - when you have been perched at the top of the tree since day 1 I guess it is natural to be a tad unobservant. However, a Jan/Feb trip to Amarillo Park is not to be taken lightly. Small ground, boisterous support, great pies - the tie of the round for me.

Well, unlimited transfers between now and then, so anything can happen.

I like your explanation. I thought my short term memory had got so bad that I couldn't remember the team names for long enough to spot a (near) duplicate as I scrolled. Your theory is much less disturbing.

Looking forward to our trip to Amarillo Park of course. Tooney's barmy army always enjoy a day out and I always enjoy pies.

Meanwhile in transfer management news. Alex Greenwood's injury has been confirmed as a MCL injury (not the dreaded ACL).

Recovery times are unpredictable of course but typically it's a three month sort of an injury rather than a full year. All being well, City and England will have her available again before the end of the season.

One for your transfer list though.
