WSL fantasy league | open season on transfers

With Arsenal's form at the moment and them losing 5-2 away at Bayern Munich on Wednesday I'm not expecting much from them really.

In terms of what I want to happen - my preference would be for them both to lose. Due to that being unlikely, a goalless draw would suit me. Not the ideal solution for my FF team but not a bad outcome for United whether I'm wearing my blind optimism glasses or not.

I've got a Chelsea defender and an Arsenal defender, hoping for that goalless draw! Also captained Phallon this week in the hope we continue our shut out!

I feel the opposite. I think the best scenario for us would be Chelsea running away with it and Arsenal and/or Man City struggling.

Of course I understand that if one considers us winning the title realistic, then a draw or Arsenal win would be a good result.
Well, that’s just a sensible, reasonable and rational approach! I am at the wild unrealistic dreamer stage….but I will come round ;)

Edit - I have come round, 2-0 Chelsea after 16 minutes…

Dual clean sheet bonus for my Arsenal defender Fox and my Chelsea defender Brighton is clearly out ... Plus side, they both have an assist!!

Outrageous to give Fox an assist for that - Foord deserves the goal and the assist points

Not that it really affects me. My Arsenal player hasn't even made it onto the pitch.

I currently do not have any Arsenal players. But then again, I am practically bottom of the league.

United players were the backbone of my team again. Phallon continues to be a bargain. Captain Clinton wasn't quite as productive as she has been for me but it's hard to complain. Maya le Tissier, who the rational bit of brain wanted to leave out because of the obvious trap of relying on two United players for clean sheet points, delivered brilliantly.

Bunny Shaw continues to do what Bunny Shaw does.

@WeePat had the biggest hit of the weekend I reckon by choosing Ramirez as captain.

I wanted to do something similar but chickened out because I can't guess how Chelsea's team rotation will work with CL games midweek.

Similar problems for most of us next weekend I guess, because City and Arsenal (Wednesday) and Chelsea (Thursday) are all in action in the CL as well as playing WSL matches on Sunday.

Somebody else had Shaw as captain and bagged 24 points.

I gotta be honest, I completely forgot I signed for this. Pleasantly surprised to see I'm 2nd in the league. I got lucky the Ramirez captaincy switched to Rachel Daly the previous GW because Chelsea's game was postponed. Daly bagged me 26 points.

Well, now that Eidevall has quit, they will probably get a bounce this week!

Quit? Yeah, right. No manager quits with two years left on his contract. But anyway, bring on Renee Slegers!
Yeah, its a bit odd. Don't know whether I am reading too much into it, but it feels like he quit before he was sacked with info leaked as to why in terms of behind the scenes stuff!

I'm going to guess it was a "by mutual agreement" and he was allowed to jump without being pushed. There's no doubt he was under a lot of pressure though, initially from the fans on social media, but more recently we were hearing echoes of it in the media as well.

Some of it had that feel of agent led campaigning using leaks. Some of it was about fans preferring their favourite players to the manager. I found some of his touchline conduct annoying - especially at LSV towards United players and towards refs/officials generally.

In the end though - 7 points dropped at this stage in the season now means Arsenal are more or less out of the title race. Throw in that defeat to Bayern and the odds were against him surviving for long.

New manager bounce? Who knows. I guess we'll see a new manager at LSV in a couple of weeks time.

Meanwhile, back to this week's transfer tactics.

Keep in mind that Arsenal and City have CL matches on Wednesday evening and Chelsea play on Thursday. That could mean keeping an eye on injury updates and playing guess the rotation.

Or roll with the team you've got and see what fate decides.

Time for that weekly reminder to update your team - or don't, if you don't think it will help!

Either way, this week's transfer and formation deadline is 11:30 (UK) on Saturday

Some players have got more expensive this week - Chelsea's Ramirez for example. Some have got cheaper - like Alessia Russo.

For the truly committed starting lineup guessers you might get a few clues from this week's press conference summaries:
https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/womens-super-league

Arsenal, City (on Wednesday) and Chelsea (Thursday) all played midweek in the WCL so that will presumably mean something in terms of rotation as well.

Not a great weekend for most of us. I accidentally turned Captain Clinton into VC Clinton for example. But mostly I think people got hit by the shortage of clean sheets in the weekend's matches.

Top RedCafe point scorers this week were Boujee Tea FC who picked up great captain's points with Lauren Hemp.

We're now heading into an international break which is good news, bad news for a FF manager. On the one hand you've got time to make changes. On the other hand, you don't know who is going to come back injured or late or worn out.

Worst still - the deadline is so far away most of us will miss it completely.

Transfer and formation deadline - Sunday 3 Nov - some time before United play Arsenal.

At least this week I will not lose any more ground on the 17 above me!

MD6 approaches and this week all the matches are going to be played on Sunday.

First match of the schedule is ours. The app is currently showing a transfer/formal deadline of 11am (UK) on Sunday.

It's rather crass to think in these terms but if you've not already moved Miedema out of your squad, looks like now is the time:

For long-term (by which I mean three weeks away) forward planners - something to think about. Our rearranged fixture with Chelsea means that some players will play two matches in one week. Could be important to start juggling now if you can free up some cash to buy some potential big point scorers.

Ok. I admit that's a rather grander piece of forward thinking than I actually do, but still. Someone might...

Just a reminder: transfer/formation deadline is tomorrow (Sunday) at 11:00 UK - according to the app.

This week's price changes include Kaneryd and Bizet getting more expensive and several players included Lauren James getting cheaper mostly due to injuries. Celin Bizet also appears on the "visionary picks" list.

Another match day comes to an end and some (but not all) of the usual suspects got points. Bunny Shaw was as reliable as usual, but Alex Greenwood got subbed off after 59 minutes for example.

All in all - not a great week for my team or my United players. Not helped by the fact that my transfers didn't deliver and I forgot to update my formation. Oops.

Some of our managers had a very good week though. Maya's Troopers came in with 71 points, with big contributions from Liverpool's Taylor Hinds and Captain Reiten.

Top scoring team was Scanny's XI who got good points from all over the pitch for a score of 76.

Matches today and Sunday

Sorry for the title being vague. The app says 6:30 (UK) but I think it's wrong as Arsenal kickoff at 7pm.

At any rate, I'm doing mine at lunchtime!

I've made changes. Tonight begins my surge towards 17th.

... and Beth Mead scores for Arsenal. Do I have her? No.

No idea how I managed to actually get a top scoring team for the week. Business as usual coming right up no doubt.

Brought in Bunny Shaw, and Maanum got me a goal and assist, shooting up the table!
All set for a Clinton hattrick and Phallon clean sheet tomorrow :)

You did have Captain Shaw though, so no need to get greedy!

I nearly had Captain Shaw and Maanum and would have done I hadn't forgotten to save my formation changes

Captain Shaw coming up with the goods! Just need a Phallon clean sheet to justify me leaving Keating on the bench!

MD7 offered possibilities for some big scores particularly for anyone with Captain Shaw on their team. It wasn't a good week for some teams like Brighton who'd been supplying the bargain players to most of the FF Managers.

In the RedCafe league then:
Top scorers were Flexo's Fantasy Femmes - with 91 points and that's without Captain Clinton having a great week.
They Simi Rollin' got 80 points - continuing their steady rise towards the top of the table.
@Demon Barber continues a silently effective pursuit of the mid table.

Next week has the potential for some really big moves. The Chelsea v United match points will get added to the MD8 points. So you'll need to pick your transfers and formation with that in mind.

Or don't, because I really have no idea what to do with my Chelsea attackers and United defenders

Thank you for noticing! It's like this - for GW1-5 I had a bald Dutch manager, eh, but he had to go. GW6&7 was an hirsute Dutch interim who began to lift the mood and the results of The Demon Barbers, and now I have a newly appointed and quite charming Portuguese saviour (hopefully) who will (hopefully) get the very best out of my team.

Speaking exclusively to Simon Stone before boarding his Manchester-bound jet he said, "Listen, fatty - I am not interested in mid-table. I intend to knock @jojojo off his £@&#%*# perch.'

Yeah, a great week for me - helped by my random cheap Everton midfielder scoring. Always a fun bonus when your filler players work out!
Next week looks sticky in terms of solid defences, but tbf Phallon is a standout even if our performances are not.

MD8 + Chelsea v United New
It's that time of the week.

This weekend's matches:
GcMkLU_WYAElpe5

Now throw in Chelsea v United a week on Sunday.

Stir in the effects of Midweek CL football (which will again be a factor for Chelsea next week). Now add a dose of United v Everton in the WSLCup next Wednesday.

Somebody could do great things with this random data I guess. The rest of us will just have to rely on Clint Eastwood - "do you feel lucky".

I managed to get my transfers done and my formation in with 5 minutes to spare before the deadline. Yes!

And it worked, Maanum and Blackstenius have delivered.

Only trouble is I messed up my Captain appointment again. Not horrendously - I mean having Bunny Shaw as Captain is always a good thing, it's just not what I intended and I don't know why it happened

I went with Chelsea's Ramirez as captain over Shaw this week.... Something in my bones felt that if anyone stops Bunny from scoring it'll be Chelsea.

Phallon as vice because naturally we'll carry on not conceding, right? Not even certain if vice captain actually does anything mind!

I was debating Ramirez or Kaneryd and somehow managed to leave it on Shaw. Like I say, it's not a bad idea, just not the idea that I actually had

And as I type that, Bunny Shaw mishits the kind of chance she'd hammer home if it was against us.

I can't keep up with City keepers, Keating is my back up to rotate in when I think Phallon will concede (so perhaps I should have done that this week with the Chelsea game counting) but she's not even playing today!

I went with Ramirez as captain too. I also tried to use my subs bench and wall options, but not sure if they have worked.

Ramirez over Shaw for captain works a treat as Chelsea slap down any suggestions that City's form and Hayes' departure could mean a changing of the guard at the top.
