WSL fantasy league | MD5 deadline - 11:30 on 19 Oct

Ok. I admit it I'm predictable enough that I've got two of them - Clinton and Shaw. I'm currently keeping Shaw in my starting lineup despite them playing Arsenal. But then FF tactical analysis isn't really my thing.

Anyone got more than two?

I've got four. Clinton and Shaw like you, plus Ella and Keating (though Phallon's starting this weekend!)

Nope, just Clinton. So now I’m not sure if I have a duff team, or a well balanced one!
Only a few days and then we will know…

I've got five of them. So much for finding the undiscovered gems! I may tinker some more though.

With the first match fast approaching, we have a league of 19. Let the fun and games begin.

Good luck to all.

So, first weekend done and dusted and lessons for all us novice FF Managers and even more novice WSL FF Managers.

Personally, I did commit the schoolboy/schoolgirl error of not seeing a problem in having a City defender when I was also hoping for an Arsenal midfielder to score. I also remembered how infuriating managers can be - fancy Chelsea not starting my favourite wildcard attacker. Duh.

My United players did come good though, especially Captain Clinton - quite chuffed about that. Admittedly having three of ours will also be a recipe for double disaster at some point though.

I took McCabe and Greenwood out of the team this week as I thought the chances were both teams might score - result! And a decent result for us too.
Pretty pleased with my team, even though I had no idea about the cheaper players - three of them didn’t start…
Still, @jojojo is ahead of my daughter by one point, and that is the real competition!

Humph! Six of mine did not play (including subs) I will not panic though.

In the real WSL we are above Chelsea, City, Arsenal and Liverpool ... so all is good.

Yeah, might take a couple of weeks to figure out the likely starters.
It is a pretty good way of learning about other squads though, makes me realise how little I know about Brighton, Everton and Leicester though!

For anyone looking for inspiration on what to do with their two signings - here's what this week's top scoring team liked like:

Just a reminder - two free transfers available for the weekend but you'll need to do it soon.

A reminder as we approach another deadline. There's a match tonight that kicks off at 7:30 so you need to get your transfers done and your formation sorted. I think the deadline is 6:30 UK but I'm not confident I've got that right - so I'd suggest trying to update before 5:30, just in case.

A couple of updates on the app. Some player prices have changed - mostly due to injuries. This week's visionary players (basically players appearing in less than 2% of league managers teams have been defined)

The app on my phone is now consistent with their Twitter feed. It's a 6:30pm UK time deadline for this week's transfers and team selections.

Two free transfers this week.

Good luck everyone!

But not more luck than me obviously

Hmm. Feels like the transfers need to be tailored to get in the strikers who are playing against Palace each week.
Bit sad for Palace, hope they get some results - maybe a shock win against City, that would be nice!

I tried to do that with Mayra Ramirez but she was benched after starting the first game.

Brought in Buchanan too but she was also benched after starting the first game. Wasn't a regular starter last season though I guess.

That's the trouble choosing Chelsea players - squad depth and managers who believe in rotation. Bompastur is going to be hard to guess. Any rate, I should have stuck with my Chelsea forward choice from last week - I swapped Beaver-Jones out for Ramirez.

Inevitable really.

With matchday two over comes the pause for reflection.

Captain Clinton was again my key player - in fact this week, my three United players gave me half of my team points.

Which brings me to the big issue of the day - next Sunday's match with Chelsea has been postponed and that means I lose 5 players from my starting lineup. It's all very well to say that I'd have had to do something anyway due to the conflict of interest but...

And yes, I know the organisers were telling us all to diversify and be bold - start picking underappreciated talent from outside the big names. But still, let's just say none of my current benchwarmers will be bringing in Captain Clinton numbers anytime soon

I'm not sure, but won't the rearranged Chelsea game still count as GW3, whenever it is played?

Anyway, enough of that. Whose stupid idea was it to set up a Caf WSL Fantasy League? I hate it already!

It doesn't sound like it:

It does mean that at some point us and Chelsea will play the game and that's when the players could be especially valuable as they'll have two games that week to win points in.

It was a great idea

At some point a combination of luck, misplaced loyalty, time constraints (aka real life) and forgetfulness will trip up managers and then all bets are off!

In my defence, I did declare a race to the bottom. I am winning.

However, the gloves are off now. The charge to victory has started. I've sacked the manager, hired a rogue interim, and taste glory.

Deadline for this week's transfers and selections is 11:30 (UK) on Saturday 5th. This week's matches:

With Chelsea v United postponed I'm guessing some of us will need both free transfers and will still be hoping the subs bench delivers.

I completely forgot about our game being postponed. I did have 5 United/Chelsea players and after free transfers I now have 6. Great work, Demon!

I knew I wasn't very good at this, although I could be, if only managers would pick my players and they then do very well. I reckon I have 4 starters in this GW. Woohoo

Transfer and formation deadline is close now.

Just saying...

OK, I had three Arsenal players but 0-0 has made me happier for us than it made me sad for fantasy football! Arsenal a bit flat so far this season, which is nice!

Good to hear it. I admit once City went two goals up, after 80 minutes, I did start hoping they would keep a clean sheet - but that was my only real slip from United fan first, FF manager second. I even resisted the temptation to hope for a Maanum goal

Your post took me back to why I gave up men's FF though, back in the Jurassic age. In my case it was that hoping a rival would get a clean sheet that made me quit. So that's obviously still my weakness.

Some remarkable results in the WSL this weekend. Crystal Palace probably spoiled a few FF teams today!

Pleased for Palace, but after their start I imagine most of their team are the hidden gems or whatever they are calling the surprise unknowns!

Yet another underwhelming week for me, I fear. Well done to all who fared well.

FF is always secondary to the real thing. I'm happy with the Arsenal score and glad that City did not do better. Next week's fixtures are interesting - it is conceivable that we could be top of the league with a game in hand on City and Arsenal.

I've totally forgetting I signed up for this but I'm pleasantly surprised to see my team sitting in the 5th spot.
Sounds like you didn't let Chelsea and United dominate your team. Do you play in other FF leagues?

I'm terrible at ones that require me to change my team every week (or twice a week in some cases). I'm involved in a manual cricket one right now that only needs quarterly updates and that seems like fun.

I was restricted by budget a bit so I only have two United players (Toone and Riviere) and one from Chelsea (Bright). Daly has understandably picked up the most points in my team.

It's that time of the week again. Transfer and team formation deadline are 12:45 (UK) on Saturday.

United and Chelsea players are back in action - mostly. Chelsea had a couple of players out midweek with a bug. Sandberg and Malard are out injured for United.

I

I have taken a risk and taken out all my Chelsea players, hoping for a shock win for Arsenal here. It would help us out in the league too, so fingers crossed for a double result today.

I feel the opposite. I think the best scenario for us would be Chelsea running away with it and Arsenal and/or Man City struggling.

Of course I understand that if one considers us winning the title realistic, then a draw or Arsenal win would be a good result.
