WSL Cup 24/25 QF | United v City - 7pm Wed 22nd Jan

It’s obvious that there’s a lot of space behind City’s high line when we counter, just need to make better decisions with the ball.

Love that work ethic from Williams, even did a ”Phil Jones” there.

Feck 1-2. Mannion off, PLEASE.

Painful ending to the half, but Mannion has been struggling with Murphy all night

Why are they even playing still? Its announced 1 minute stoppage time, and then at 46 min they let play go on. Do they have to wait til the ball is dead to blow the whistle? Am I missing some new rule?

The rule is ”a minimum of… minutes of added time…”

Seeing a lot of negativity here, understandably so considering the scoreline... Take Sunday out of the equation and we've generally been ok against a team that is plainly better than us. If I was a journalist I would have rewritten my half time report three or four times in that last 20 minutes.

Mannion, unfortunately, has been woeful. You have to assume that the only reason she is functioning as 'backup right back' is because Blundell is on maternity leave. Fingers crossed for Jayde on immediately, and I'd replace Williams too, she's not been entirely at the races from what I've seen.

Mannion really does look like a fish out of water tonight, whether she's just rusty or it's a positional thing I don't know.

Unusual to see Williams this far off the pace though. There's not much of her usual zip about her tonight.

Millie Turner goes off at the start of the half, Janssen comes on. Interesting change.

Perhaps pre-planned.

I would say it's fairly universal and not exclusive to English football.
It's how far they go with it that differs. Some stop when the ball goes out of play. Some let the attackers carry on if it goes out for a corner or whatever. Flipside is I've seen refs blow with the ball in mid air from a cross, but I don't think I've seen that in England.

Just speaking from experience watching a lot of European football. Obviously the ref is also a factor but I don't think there is a big difference in England compared to France/Italy/Germany/Spain/Portugal etc.

I disagree that City are ‘plainly’ better. Maybe if they were at full strength, but this City team is very beatable. So to be losing due to some very poor defending is a bit disappointing.

Keating sits down for a break, so we bring Jayde on for Leah.

I saw Jayde warming up and thought "Get Jayde on for Mannion, that could be a game changing sub both in defence and attack"

Not what I had in mind Mr. Skinner!!
