You wait half a season for a Manchester derby then two come along in a few days...

Yes, it's time for the Subway League Cup and we're at the QF stage. We won all our group stage matches to get here (and no one got disqualified and therefore qualified ahead of us  ). City like the other WCL participants skipped the group stage and jumped straight into the QF draw.

There are still some tickets on sale for LSV, if you can get along.

Match is live on WSL YouTube and MUTV.

Meanwhile here's a derby match we played earlier:

I'll be very interested to see who starts in goal for City following yesterday's horror show.

I'm an American who has only been following the WSL for a few years, so correct me if I'm wrong, but it has seemed to me pretty common for teams to play their #2 keeper in most non-WSL competitions. If so, a keeper change for City wouldn't necessarily be a direct response to the last match. On the other hand, it's possible that Taylor will decide that it's important for Keating to "get back on the horse" immediately to try to restore her confidence.

City's position isn't necessarily the same as other clubs. Last season Keating was first choice, something of a breakout star, but this season their summer signing (name escapes me) started the first five or six league games.

You do raise a good point in relation to ourselves mind... Whether Phallon gets a rest and new signing Kayla Rendell gets a debut.

Sorry if this is off-topic for this particular thread but, now that I've brought it up, I -- as a relatively naïve American -- have a question for you Brits: How much am I supposed to care about the Subway League Cup? I think I understand why people care about the FA cup ("best in England"), and I certainly understand why people care about the Champions League ("best in Europe"), but....

The League Cup (usually known by its sponsor) is the secondary cup competition. Opinion on whether it should be prioritised or even cared about is often pretty divided for both men and women. It is a smaller competition than the FA Cup, only featuring those clubs that compete in the top two divisions.

Personally, given that the league is so Chelsea-dominated, the League Cup represents an opportunity for silverware, in particular as it is a competition we are yet to win.

It's not without its controversy though. Any club that qualifies for European competition (the top 3 finishers in the previous season's WSL, subject to 2nd and 3rd's success in the qualifier rounds) gets a bye to the quarter finals. So, we have had a busy group stage whereas City have not kicked a ball in the competition yet.

United p3, w3 v City p0, w0. Rotation is fine - we rotated at the weekend. Full-strength and smash them.

In expecting to see Clinton and Malard in the starting lineup. I guess other changes will depend on how well people have recovered from Sunday. Terland for example wasn't on the scoresheet but she did a lot of the work at the weekend. In principle at least, Toone is still building up match fitness

For City, looks like Bunny Shaw won't play any part, she's expected back at weekend. The bigger issue for them is at the back though - they really didn't cope well with life without Greenwood on Sunday.

Middleton-Patel, Sandberg, Williams, Clinton, Malard, Mannion, Simi - In terms of depth we're not far short of having a decent second XI. Add Watson, Simpson, Rabjohn, Naalsund, Jewell, Geyse and Blundell to that list (and Chloe Kelly!) - the future is Red!

Are we signing Chloe then?

Newbie Rendell over Saf I expect... otherwise, absolutely! One complaint we can't have about recent transfer policy is that we have built strength in depth. It's just the first 11 is two or three players off properly challenging at the top of the table (now where have we heard that one before??)

Just rocked up at LSV... Both North and South stands are shut, so attendance likely won't be particularly high.

I've heard on the grapevine that Kerolin could be available to play for City already these evening, which would be a bit of a bummer. Got to smash them again, I want a trip to wherever's hosting the League Cup final this year!

I don't think there's the possibility of replays, so we could be looking at extra time and penalties if scores are level.

2 hours to kickoff or 1 hour?

Two, kick off is 7pm. I'm always here early for midweek games as I have to take the afternoon off work to make the trip (two and half hours drive) and I have nothing better to do so tend to hit the road as soon as my laptop is closed!!

Thank you, I am in sweden and we are 1 hour before you guys. And many time some places has the time wrong, so I figured I´d ask someone who is there to be on the safe side, haha! You have time to set up your sabotage equipment at the City bench at least being there early ;)

Enjoy the game.

4 games - 15 minutes between each kick off. That's just weird.

Good thing there's only one I want to watch I suppose! Though it is sometimes nice going into these games already having an idea of what a potential semi-final could look like!

The starting XI looks about as expected, with Toone and Terland getting some well deserved rest after the high-calorie shifts they put in on Sunday.
