WSL 2024/25 | MD 13 over | Sam Kerr trial in court

Possibly, there is certainly that risk. Although it could have the opposite effect and drive growth if more owners decide to put money into the womens game

I'm thinking how much talent is too much talent?

I felt with the Girma deal that Chelsea were potentially overdoing it. We have so many players now on the bench or in the stands that could be starters for other really good teams. Like is there a reason to have Bronze, Perriset and Ashley Lawrence in the squad at the same time? All 3 would be starters for other top teams, but we have all 3 and only one of them can start at a time.

I know the mens game is out of control, but I feel a bit more protective over the women's game. I don't to see it held hostage by one team outspending the entire league combined and hoarding all the talent and all the titles. I want good healthy competition, which we have had in recent seasons. But it's concerning when we see the title race potentially completely dead by the halfway point and the top team continues to make blockbuster, elite signings. There's also stories out there that we're trying to add Trinity Rodman too. How much is overkill?

Chelsea will the league with at least a 20-point gap. They’ll win every single game they have left comfortably.

Sad times but expected. One of my favourite players in recent years.

MD13 - 2 Feb - City v Arsenal New
Today's matches:
GiZUYfsW0AAI9e0

The day begins with the biggest match. Chelsea look as if they're going to race away with the title. However United, City and Arsenal are currently more or less neck and neck fighting for the other two WCL spots. With any luck, City and Arsenal will both lose today, though that might be tricky.

Meanwhile, just a quick diversion to Spain where Barcelona lost to Levante. That's their first LigaF defeat in nearly two years and it's 6 years since they last lost at home. Levante are currently in the relegation places, though with a good chance of saving themselves. The other Valencia team - Valencia - are bottom of the table and like their men's team, they don't look like they'll recover.

Dreadful defensive error puts Arsenal a goal up after one minute. Alex Greenwood's injury hasn't just weakened them by meaning they've lost a player, they've lost all cohesion at the back.

Fun match to watch, though City's defenders probably won't want to watch it again. Same kind of open match as the derby, but without the adrenaline rush for us of course. The game slowed down as it approached HT, which was not what happened in the derby.

Arsenal leading 2-1 at HT but it's hard to imagine that's the end of the scoring.

Ah well, no more goals it is then

And this time the terrible défensive error comes from Arsenal. Miedema makes it 2-2.

Arsenal immediately make it 3-2

Arsenal win 4-3. I'd have preferred it to end in a draw, but you can't win them all. Fun as it was to watch, hard to ignore the dodgy defending - though good attackers contributed as well of course.

Saw a glimpse of Keira Walsh today. She really just oozes pure class. Will definitely enjoy watching her at Chelsea .

Unfortunately that's true

I think the move will weaken Barcelona (which is good) and strengthen Chelsea (which is bad). My hope now is that Bompastur can't quite deliver the magic trick of fitting together the pieces.

The weekend's matches mean that United continue in second place. United's run-in has Chelsea, City and Arsenal(a) as the last three games. GD might turn out to be decisive.

Sam Kerr's court trial is now underway.

For people unfamiliar with the story. Her and her partner were having a night out in London and caught a taxi home. One of them apparently threw up in the cab but according to the driver, they didn't want to pay the clean-up charge.

Things then took a turn for the worst after the taxi driver kept the doors locked. Fast forward to the police station and Sam Kerr ends up charged with a "racially aggravated public order offence" after calling the police stupid and white.

Yesterday, the prosecution showed the police station footage:

Kerr's defence is basically that she feared for their safety when the taxi driver locked the doors and started driving away from their house and what they now know was towards the police station. She also says she tried calling the police from the cab but was ignored. Trial continues.

We're obviously going to let the legal proceedings take it's course, but I don't really think she has a leg to stand with the racially aggravated offence. It's clear as day what she said. Some might not think it's a big deal but if someone called me stupid and black, I'd consider that racial abuse, so ....

Her whole story seems batshit. She's not even disputed the puking in the taxi bit, as far as I've seen, so it's already a terrible look for her and her partner to not just pay for the cleaning, and it's that refusal that started the whole thing.

After that they've ended up smashing his window and her saying that.

They were drunk, so I can forgive refusing to pay, it’s bad but in their drunken state, I can understand saying no. I also buy the claim that they were afraid as he started driving off in a direction that wasn’t their destination, though we now know the driver was taking them to the police station, but in the moment, I can see why that might feel like a scary situation. Once in police custody though, racially abusing the police officer, clear as day, caught on camera, it’s horrible behaviour.

He clearly is white though and do we have evidence that he is not stupid?

On a serious note she is clearly guilty by the letter of the law but I am having a hard time with the Officer claiming he suffered emotional distress and humiliation over this and the fact he changed his witness statement 10 months after it was originally filed is highly suspect. I am fairly sure that if she was not a public figure this would have been dealt with as a far less serious issue and put to bed long ago.

He seems to be overreacting even though what she did was typical trampy drunken shit.

I'd wager he gets and hears far worse than that without him even reacting most Friday and Saturday nights.

Clearly trying to make an example of Kerr, but she dces deserve it.
