Wout Weghorst

If that's the case, a bench option is still preferable to no option.

Tbh, I think he will probably be involved more often than that. Works hard, presses well and another poster alleged that his goal per game average is roughly 1 in 2 everywhere he's played, bar Burnley.

Could be a better signing than many of us would have imagined. Fingers crossed. :)

Yeah and he was the one who set up their goal against us at Turf Moor last season

Something doesn’t add up here. On the one hand we’re being told by Murtough we’re only looking to bring in quality, yet on the other we seem to be genuinely interested in Wout fecking Weghorst! Make it make sense people.
We are generally only interested in top quality permananent signings.
This is a different scenario, we need a cheap player to cover the squad until the summer, when hopefully we will have new owners.
What I've said is stayed over and over here, the only thing that doesn't make sense is how people can't seem to grasp it.

The reason I like this is no one saw it coming. I miss signings like that. I also trust he will fit with what ETH wants and even if he doesn't work out it's only a loan.

20 pages on this already. He's literally a Championship level striker. Give us a fecking break. Do...Not...Want!

So IF he scores a crucial away goal late on in Nou Camp or let's just say bags late at Anfield you won't think it's worth it

I mean he's not... Before his bad half season with Burnley, he had 3 years in a row of ~20+ goals for Wolfsburg. Which is clearly a good record. And before that he had a good record in the Eredivisie. So that clearly makes him a Bundesliga level striker doesn't it? Just because a player doesn't fit into a delegation side, doesn't mean they are shit. It's a different environment.

Of course it adds up.

Criteria - Cheap, Loan, six months, immediate availability, sits on his arse fairly often and covers less important fixtures.

I don't think Wout Weghorst could make any more sense in that scenario. In any other scenario when his name is associated with Man Utd it would be truly strange but I think it's clear what is happening here. We do not have the finances and/or relevant targets for a permanent decision on a striker in this window.

It's a loan in the middle of the season... Do people really think we can get Kane or Vlahovic in the middle of the season?

Not to mention others in that bracket will want a long term deal. This is a very convenient short term option and though he's not the most skilled, you can't question his character and team ethic.

Did you not see him in the WC? He has an impact from the bench - scoring twice against Argentina. He has 10 goals in 20 games this season, if he keeps that rate up he’ll be a real bonus to our run in. He IS quality, just not a sexy name or a flair player - but we have those in abundance. He’s a different option and Erik will get the best from him.

People judging his spell at Burnley are mad, new league, shite team that didn't create chances. He was on a hiding to nothing there.

His record everywhere else is good.

He's deffo not got a sexy name.

I don't think people really realize that EtH did well with strikers like Weghorst in his Ajax days, he also gives us something different when we're either chasing the score or playing against a bottom side that camps outside their box. We also have decent delivery now from both flanks so this signing makes sense.

We can't realistically replace 11 players in the course of 12 months that could be the best possible option in each position.

Butland and Wieghorst

Feels like something Arry’ would pull off on deadline day for Pompey.

Ralf wasn’t operating on the same planet as the rest of us. Tbh i’d rather go the opposite way to anything Ralf said. It’s been proven wrong by ETH.

And then.... and then, Mr Rangnick thought we could splash out 70m in january on a striker to save our season

Our players will still just lump it to him. It is not the best approach, as we wanted to move away from that type of football.
Alternatively he can hold the ball and play in runners on either wing, or can make dummy runs to open space for Rashy or Antony. It’s not a given that he will be just a long ball merchant, although he gives us that option too! He could also be valuable on set pieces, which have already improved massively this season.

Tore Andre Flo regen. Good touch, good in the air decent finisher. As a loan it is fine.

That supposed to be a complement? He was shite

First time I’ve ever heard in mentioned in about 15 years.

Bring him in ASAP we’re short in numbers and we’re playing well. I don’t want yet another wasted season. It is time for silverware.

He wasn't shite, he wasn't a world beater but he was a good target striker who was equally good in the air as he was with the ball into feet.

May or may not be a good signing but one thing for sure, if you took his short time as a lone CF in a terrible Burnley side off his CV, half this forum would be falling over themselves to say what an amazing signing a player with his record would be.

The Ighalo loan was arguably useful and this lad is a much better player than Ighalo!

Worth noting that ETH brought Haller in from his flop stint at West Ham and he used him brilliantly as a target man. A notable feature was his link up play and Haller being on the end of those crosses from Antony.

That shows me that this isn't just random, ETH has a clear plan for how he'll use Weghorst, and he'll replace that aerial threat that we lost when Ronaldo left, but without the baggage.

I think this one definitely falls into the realms of "wait and see" because i don't know how to feel about it. You can't deny he brings something different, and even if he scores only 5 goals, those goals are going to be ones that nobody else would have been likely to score. I like the idea of having a different dimension up top.

This has to be a wind up or someone that has never watched the U21’s. Hugill and McNeill would really struggle to get a game in League 2 on current ability.

My point was really that I think we can either do better than Weghorst, or manage without for half a season, though admittedly Martial's injury record is not great.

I get that Hugill and McNeill do not look like being ready but we might only need them as bench options for the league cup.

For the same reason I would not have bothered with Butland.
