Wout Weghorst

First of all, not his fault that the club managed to buy £180m worth of players for £250 million. He also shouldn't be the one solely responsible for choosing and picking players, that's not his primary job. He also had to deal with Ronaldo issue and now doesn't have money to spend on players going into this window while having as in top 4 with 4 points behind City.

I think Weghorst is a solid option and could be a good stop-gap solution. so am all for this, but let's not pretend Ten Hag is in some ideal position here. He had a lot of things going against him and still has. Even with Weghorst we are one injury away (Rashford, Bruno, Martial) from a potential crisis in attack if Sancho doesn't return.
Even if we got our players for 180m... That would still be a massive spend and fine to say "you got nothing until the summer". We just made sure we got them in. We are not a club that has infinite spending, but we are the closest thing to it in world football without being an oil club (and Chelsea now).

You can't make signings assuming Sancho won't return. The reality is you assume he is part of it until he is out of the club. Whatever is going on with him, he will get his chances soon. I'm all for getting Felix, but the one reservation i have is that realistically, if Sancho simply finds his confidence and form then he could offer literally what we would sign Felix to offer.

Looking at this and looking back to our last three games. I’m quite happy this signing can offer us a plan B. In the last 3 games how many times did our wingers actually swing a cross into the box during open play, not many and hardly ever at head height. Only Rashford is capable at head height at the moment of all our attackers. At 6.6 this guy is instantly going to open up this option. Looking forward to this. Also makes set pieces more interesting, him, Rashford Maguire and Varane could cause quite a handful.

Im sure many seconds of thought were put into this. Also you must not rate Ten Hags ability to improve players then.
I do , if Eric wants him get him and that will be my position on most things as long as Eric doesn't feck things up too much.

I've no reason so far to doubt ten hags choices. If he wants Dean Ashton out of retirement, get him

If he keeps us ticking over and scores a few goals then fantastic. I think 'the perfect striker at the perfect time' might be pushing it a bit :D

No thanks.

Would rather give Hugill or McNeill a chance if it came to it.
McNeill looks like he is struggling at u23 level as it is. I don’t know what’s the story with hugill this year but neither are ready for the pressure or fan expectations

How is he going to feck things up? We need another striker and we are broke. Im confident he will know how to make Weghorst work.
I didn't say he's going to i said i will continue to support Eric's transfer demands as long as he heads messed up things too much which hasn't been the case obviously .

On a personal note im not convinces whether weghorst could offer more than a bench option a few times in the remaining season but we'll see.

Some of the takes on here blow my mind. Neither are anywhere near good enough now, and more than likely never will be.

Ya it's absolutely insane to see people wanting youth players over someone that had 2 goals in a WC quarter final. I guess they can have someone who struggles against u23 teams. I'll take the guy that scored 2 against Argentina on a cheap loan deal.

I can see him causing Barca problems. A real physical forward who is strong and good in the air had been their Achilles heel for years.

His pressing stats are very promising too.

Fair enough. I just think that transfer window could have been better executed in terms of general planning (we almost ended up with Rabiot on long term contract), but mostly am opposed to the thinking that ten Hag was provided with everything needed and this is an ideal situation for him to navigate in. But that is a culmination of years of mismanagement from above.

Anyway, happy with progress made on the pitch which is the most important thing.

It's not that bad as a Martial cover. It's not inspiring but I think very few options are when you're working with the finances we seem to be and you are in the short term loan market. The number one criteria is price not quality, and the second is whether they are available and willing to play a squad role. He brings a completely different skillset.

Prefer it to Aboubakar who is in Saudi football, and I don't like the Felix deal unless we can afford to have an option to purchase. An expensive loan deal that essentially acts as a marketing service for Atletico is not a fit for a club like us. Particularly for a project player, he is not proven to be able to do what we need.

To be fair he has only stunk the place out at Burnley and that coincided with them being particularly bad. Burnley has never been a place where attacking players go to produce fantastic numbers.

Everywhere else he has scored goals and you would think with his strength and size he may open up opportunities for others. We have a lot of attacking talent that can exploit that.

Something doesn’t add up here. On the one hand we’re being told by Murtough we’re only looking to bring in quality, yet on the other we seem to be genuinely interested in Wout fecking Weghorst! Make it make sense people.

Really want us to get him in within a couple of days. Small cameo off bench against Charlton and hopefully, if required, an option from the bench against the big games vs City and Arsenal. Whatever position we are in in those games, he will be massively effective for us if we are going for whipping balls into the box, or if we’re trying to defend a lead given his pressing and height.

I am a bit bemused by the level of outrage, in our current circumstances, at this potential loan signing. He's not being looked upon as our long term saviour and messiah.

What are you expecting for 6 months loan? Pretty decent quality back up that adds something different.

Not fussed about Tuesday's game but would be great if we could get it done before 12 on Friday

I think it's his name. It's the sort you see in a European local paper where someone's had inappropriate relations with a horse or something.

If that's the case, a bench option is still preferable to no option.

Tbh, I think he will probably be involved more often than that. Works hard, presses well and another poster alleged that his goal per game average is roughly 1 in 2 everywhere he's played, bar Burnley.

Could be a better signing than many of us would have imagined. Fingers crossed. :)
