He's getting w(egh)orst game by game. I (almost) give up on him. But, I mean, what's the alternative?
Rashford up top and midfield 3. Give Sabitzer freedom to attack. For a midfielder, he know to find space to shoot.

End to end game like this, Weghorst almost has no use even if he tries to run a lot. He's just behind the pace of the game. He's a headless chicken in comparison to Mitrovic who despite also being slow, know where to position, and use his body/physicality. The contrast between a good mid table forward level to Weghorst is already light and day apart.

Such a privilege for a player to be so utterly useless game after game with no fear of getting benched. Has a player ever been this poor for so long while starting every single time?

Harry Maguire 21/22

Rashford isn't that effective as main striker. And Mitrovic is one of the best PL forward. A quality striker like him, won't be a sub.

I know EtH sees some qualities in him that maybe improve the team play but we lose too much in attack to justify his selection. Hopefully, EtH figures out a way to play without him but I doubt we see anything different unless Martial remains fit.

Having Rashford out left like today just having Weghorst lead the line doubled the uselessness. Against a high line, pace running behind helped, just like Antony led to that penalty and sent off incident. In the end, when Antony subbed on, Rashford was moved to CF, and Weghorst to that #10 role anyways. Why waited half of the game, and one goal behind?

If Mitrovic is one of the best PL forward, then it has more to do the dearth of quality forward than him being that good. He's nowhere good enough as starter for CL teams.

I am not talking about buying him. His ill disciplined is not suitable for top club. Just give an example of capable slow forward. Running around a lot is not a good trade off for the inability to play the forward role correctly.

It's not often you see us sign players and technically they just look so far off the pace. Even people that were hated by fans, such as Fellaini etc, still had good first touch etc. Carthorst stands out like a sore thumb whenever the ball goes near him. It's like a supporter won a competition.

Sincerely hope Martial is fit post break. Weghorst was signed as a back up striker, and he's played every game because there is no competition for him to be back up too.
He works hard which means he certainly adds something.

He's living the dream at the moment. Imagine having his level as a player but getting this golden ticket to rack up 30 appearances for Manchester United.
Incredible really.

You wonder if Martial has much role to play this season or not. At least Weigy is fit every week.

What's up with his shooting power? For a big guy like him playing in a striker position, I could probably kick a ball harder than he does most of the time, and I used to play goalkeeper on my high school team...

Can he actually press? By the time he reaches the area to 'press', ball is already played to somebody else. Him pressing is akin to a striker walking towards a goalie who's taking a goal kick.

We do realise that’s he’s a squad filler right? None of us expected Martial to be out this long and despite WW lack of skill at least he’s available. He gives more than Sancho and cost 36 times less! Us Utd fans need a reality check. Wout is doing his best - that’s good enough for ETH and it’s good enough for me.

Wonder if he can get to five goals by the season's end? :(

I've been reasonably happy with his contribution, aside from the lack of goals, because the alternative is removing Rashford from the wing spot and sticking him up top or playing Bruno or Elanga there in some false 9 type thing. I just hope we get some kind of miracle with Martial in the last part of the season where he can stay fit and we can finally start mixing things up in the forward positions.

If Wout Weghorst is good enough for you because he tries hard then you have 0 ambition as a supporter

How people have come to the conclusion that the bolded would be worse than starting Weghorst every game, astounds me.

Starting Rashford up top would be infinitely better for the team. And give Elanga 20 consecutive starts at #9 and I’m certain he’ll offer more threat than Weghorst. This guy can’t even take a shot properly. He scuffs, falls on or tackles the ball every time he tries to take a shot. He looks barely professional.

Initially I thought he might be a decent backup but that ship has sailed now. He’s trying and is only playing so much as we don’t have anyone else but just isn’t good enough.

because Rashford is a much more dangerous player on the wing. Against big teams and with a lot of space to run in behind he's a good centre forward but he's clearly a better player on the wing.

And yeah i share the frustration with Weghorst's lack of goal threat, but i doubt Elanga would be much better in that role and clearly EtH thinks so too which is why Wout keeps getting picked-literally because there is no one else as a recognized centre forward. Personally i'm more frustrated with our main centre forward being constantly injured than i am with Weghorst.

I reckon I'd prefer a 35 year old Fellaini up front.

He's utterly brutal.

Is the truth. People trying to argue otherwise need to give it up. We’ll look back in years to come and wonder how this lad ever played for United. It’s like watching a competition winner at times. Even his hard work isn’t that useful as he’s so fecking slow to close anyone down. Plays like he has cement in his boots. The Bundesliga must be even worse then I thought if a player like this can get into double figures there.

At his current strike rate in English football he'd have to start another 30+ games to score 3 more goals.

I've defended him so often, truth be told he's lacking in the most key department needed for his position, finishing.

The rest of the team don't trust him with the ball in key areas, I just don't think he can reposition his body quick enough to finish.

I'd stop short of calling him dreadful but he's had so many games now where he's looked zero threat to the opposition it's actually a major concern.

As a centre forward he's just a joke, and not the funny kind.

He looks busy. Defenders and keepers aren’t scared of him because even though he’s so massive he’s slow as feck and his legs are so clunky to navigate any room. He also never gets a decision in his favour so 50/50s are always fair game for the opposing player to leave a bit in

Well ETH loves him so does he have 0 ambition as a manager?
Wout is a stop gap - everyone knows that except you by the looks of it.
You really are a keyboard warrior, twat....

You’re not wrong you know. He’s keeping the likes of Elanga and Pellistri out of the team. Under a manager who knows what he’s doing. So he’s obviously nowhere near as hopeless as many on here think.

He has played very badly in our last two matches though.

Maguire has been worse and more ineffective for longer.

Had a few good touches here and there, but has no ability whatsoever to take on a defender.

His shooting reminds me of Sterling. Zero venom.

Not many are seeing the fact that it’s a TEAM game.
ETH obviously feels that Wout is needed to make the front line work while providing good defensive cover.
It‘s working, not brilliantly, but it’s working.
Lack of any other options is stark.
