That seems a bit Vicky Pollard...Yeah, but No, but Yeah, No.
Success..?
Depends how you measure it.
He built a very good team at Swansea, winning the POs, and a very good team at Liverpool, that came within a whisker of winning the PL.
OK, its only Celtic, but he'd have won a triple treble if he'd seen out the remainder of that season, and his Leicester team are no mugs, have won an FA Cup.
All of his teams have played decent attacking football too....
Yes I know it's not quite the all in or all out type argument. And while they are good things for s CV I'm not sure they fit the bill.

feck Brendan Rodgers yo

Liverpool did and he was a prick to work with according to the likes of Edwards. Their transfers improved dramatically once he fecked off.

He does strike me as a prick, which is a factor, although highly subjective.

Everybody that has watched football a bit over the years surley can not have failed to see the type of football Rodgers gets his team to play...Swansea were pretty impressive under his control. Does anyone see what style or tactic OGS is trying to implement at United? He´s so utterly clueless that it´s bewildering to see and this can not continue. It´s another dicussion to ask why United have failed in such a masterful way to find a proper manager after Fergie. How on earth did this club let Klopp and Guardiola slip through their fingers? I´m not a Glazer fan but we have spent more on player purchases and wages than any other club over the last years...but we are still miles away from the top clubs in Europe...Can that be explained by anything else than the manager not being up to the job?

People talk about his Liverpool days.

Since then he won the treble two years in a row with Celtic, and led Leicester to FA cup and Community shield (beating Pep for it).

For the first time of his career he is going to have squad full of genuinely class players at Manchester United.

Give Rogers a go, the guy is 48 and is improving massively.
Leicester fans flatter themselves to be “top 6 club”, but they really aren’t and missing out narrowly on top 4 is a huge achievement for them..

What Ole is doing with the team is depressing and pointless. Even if Ten Hag seems like more exciting manager, Rogers is going to improve us dramatically!

He was a throbbing douche when he was in charge of Liverpool, no doubt. The whole Brenton thing seems to have dried up a bit in recent years. I can’t remember him making a dick of himself at Celtic or Leicester. Possible he’s grown up a bit? Or maybe it just hasn’t been on my radar?

Let's talk about this. He can play all kind of formations to fit our players. He has played a diamond, 4231, 352 at Leicester and 433 at Liverpool.

He likes to keep the ball. His play goes through full backs and wingers. Possession oriented coach. Can't defend for life. Set pieces are a huge problem. Prefer playing out from back.

It would be perfect anti climax if we release Pogba and sign this guy. However, if there is money to spent, Tielemans would be good under him. Donny and Sancho, for sure is going to thrive.

Or quotes from any fans on any manager ever. Which was my point.

Yeah that's true but tbf these fans watch every game and their posts are closer to reality than what we see on caf about Rodgers. Most people watch highlights or go by results of other teams, they don't watch every single min of the game.

I would say Foxes talk posts would be closer to reality than Redcafe on Rodgers.

It's reasonably simple: Rodgers is a better manager than Ole, but not the man we want in for the next cycle.

So - even though it would improve us in the very near term - we shouldn't go for him.

That said, from the board's perspective he ticks a lot of boxes. Also worth noting in US sports managers often move around a ton, even between top teams, so culturally isn't that odd.

Nothing funny about beating Pep to a trophy that he desires (every fecking year City talk about winning all 4/5/6 possible trophies). It's great achievement for Leicester and another proof that Rogers learned how to win important games.
And say something about beating Chelsea with Tuchel, the world class manager in the FA cup final?

It's obvious that Rogers as manager has improved drastically since his liverpool days.
I'm actually looking forward to seeing how he does with our squad. I think VDB and Sancho are exactly his type of players and he will know how to keep Bruno in control (increasing his effectiveness in the process).

It is definitely funny if anyone is mentioning the Community Shield as a trophy. It should not be considered as such as it is a pre season game whoever you play. Nuno beat Pep this season, shall we hire him? Rodger's Leicester are currently below Nuno's Spurs when he was sacked. They fell off in the league last season costing them a top 4 place. Rodgers is a good manager but he's not going to take us to the next level in my opinion.

Is there any rumours on Rodgers from credible sources? Like from the Guardian, Athletic etc.

So is the European Supercup not a trophy? Is the spanish Supercup not a trophy? :)
In every country the game between the champions and the cup winners is a great honour. Why whould the english one be exception?

Pogba, Ronaldo and Cavani are likely to all be gone at the end of the season. Whoever takes over is going to have a significantly weaker squad.

No to Brenton.

Would rather Utd brave it out till the end of season for hopefully better options.

Its not even a competitive game, suspensions doesn't count and IIRC teams can make 6 subs. It's close to friendly game than competitive game.

Also maybe wrong but the game isn't even counted for official records, I mean player scoring goals won't be counted in his season total.

The Community Shield has never been considered a formal trophy. It is a pre season game and the curtain raiser to the Premier League. Other countries may give more value similar trophies however it depends on the country.

Oooooh, there's a rumour going about that Rodgers has a release clause in his Leicester contract. If Man Utd come in for him, he can go.

This might have some legs!!

Personally, I would take him. His has been overperforming with Leicester for a while. They don't have the depth of squad to last the full season, which is why they have tailed off with injuries at the end of the last 2 seasons, but he was one slip away from winning the title with an average Liverpool team.

He plays decent attacking football. They wiped the floor with us a few weeks back. He is a significant upgrade on Ole, and he is a lifelong United fan. PL proven, knows how to play with an ageing center forward. Dominates the midfield. Great signings, promotes youth. He ticks a lot of boxes.

Go for it.

If Ten Hag and Poch don't want to come now when we need them. Screw them, they don't want it anyway.

I find it astonishing how easily people are dismissing winning the FA cup.

Trophies are hard to come by especially with City, Liverpool and Chelsea always being there. If it was laughing matter than Ole would have won something and everything wouldn't be so toxic.

Rodgers has won 2 cups here with a decent team beating City. That is an achievement. He will get better with our resources. So we should be trying everything to get this guy.

I am not sure about Ten Haag as how he will adapt to PL and egos at United. But if he is available now than don't mind him too.

The Glazers do not understand football. They have no sense of the tribalism that comes with it. Their NFL franchise could move from Tampa and end up across the country in Santa Fe. That's normal for them. The attachment and regionalism that accompanies English (and European) football is alien to them. The embarrassment that will come if Rodgers leads Man Utd to defeat at Anfield, and the Kop starts singing about 'Agent Brendan,' won't even have occurred to them.

Honestly, if we appoint Rodgers I'll actually feel sorry for him. In his first press conference the media will ask him if he thinks he can win over the United fans given his Liverpool history. From there the pressure will just grow. Solskjaer has had his taste of the ABU media. However, for the most part he's been shielded because he's a club legend. The media knows that there will always be a large contingent of fans who, even now, will never get nasty about Ole. So they don't lean into him as much as they could. That won't be the case with Rodgers. Whenever there's a bad result they'll be on him and the Liverpool fans will too. Playing it up, bantering United fans. Unless he comes in and goes on an insane winning streak he'll be eaten alive by the media.

I keep seeing people talk about Busby. When Busby became United manager players were still being transferred directly between United and Liverpool. The rivalry had not grown to the point its at now. You can't just magic away decades of the rivalry getting deeper, more intense and less civilised. Are people going to suddenly forget Liverpool fans trying to turn over Alan Smith's ambulance or something, just cos the rivalry wasn't as fierce in the 40s?

The shield is official FA and UEFA supercup. Even Pep refers to it as "the first final of the season", but whatever. No point in discussing this.

About the Cavani, Ronaldo and Pogba situation - Ronaldo has 1 more year. Cavani is fecking great but old. And we are going to be miles better off without Pogba for various reasons.

Had to look this up and it appears Alan Smith said it didn't happen:

As many others have stated, it is just a pre season game and curtain raiser. Describing it a formal trophy is complete nonsense, it has never been that.

Yeah, absolutely what I was saying. Joel would presumably need someone to explain it to him slowly. I just don't think he cares that much about United tbh. Obviously not as much as fans do. It probably holds slightly more interest than the 3rd largest mall he owns.

So how many trophies did sir Alex win with us? 49 or 39? ;)

Alan Smith sets record straight on Liverpool fans attacking his ambulance - Liverpool Echo

It would be hard for him to know given he was unconscious and receiving oxygen at the time.

Merseyside Ambulance Trust, who took care of him, issued a statement at the time saying:

It did not result in any delay in transferring the player to hospital but the trust cannot condone this type of behaviour while administering emergency treatment. -- link

And I see no reason why Merseyside Ambulance Trust would make up a story like this.

None of the Glazers give a damn about United. Their Dad bought it to make money, they inherited it off of him and its been a good piggybank. That's it.

Winning the FA Cup is unquestionably an achievement.

However, it's also the sort of achievement that managers like Mikel Arteta, Roberto Martinez and Harry Redknapp have previously pulled off. And the sort of achievement that we've previously fired managers immediately after achieving. In other words not the sort of achievement that lends great weight to someone's claim to having earned a shot at managing Manchester United.

YES! Can't believe people voting no.. you'd rather stick with Ole who can't organise a team!? or play a high-press and high intensity possession based football game to dominate games/teams.

The Northern Irishman is a tactical genius who Manchester City have already earmarked as the Pep replacement in a few years if United don't snap him up. Worked under Mourinho and travelled all over Spain and the World learning from other coaches/teams developing his coaching style and tactics. Manchester United should be all over him. Plus Rodgers family are big Manchester United fans

Rodgers plays 4-4-3 or a 4-4-2 Christmas Tree Diamond formation which is perfect for the squad and players we have. I guarantee with Rodgers he will whip these underachieving primadonnas into shape and organised team and get us playing some lovely attacking football and dominating games.

also yes he managed Liverpool but so did Busby. I know the Scouse media like rewriting history but Liverpool sacked him so he isn't as a Scouse legend. There should be no loyalty there to Liverpool.

Rodgers is also fluent in a few different languages which helps. And has a release clause at Leicester so he's gettable.

I don't expect the Glaziers to get him as he's exactly what United need.

Zidane and Ten Haag are not Premier League Proven and Ten Haag wouldn't work without the Ajax system from top to bottom. He's a better more experienced coach than Zidane.
