Would you take Pickford over Onana?

Never been much of a Pickford fan, but I'm afraid I'd take him over Onana. Maybe only because he tends to know not to let balls go in straight from corners!

No, Everton will want way to much over is real value. Should have gone for Diogo Costa day one. But here we are, 2 seasons later and probably looking for a new keeperm

Did you not watch him against us? Was a complete nervous wreck.

I would. And I dislike Pickford. But he at least aggressively commands his box.

Presumably Ramsdale is more likely. Southampton will certainly be relegated, so should be affordable, and younger than Pickford.

Well he does like a relegation battle, although not the keeper you want in goal as he is on his way to being relegated for the 3rd time in his career .

Onana has an FA Cup, Italian Cup, 3 Dutch titles, reached a CL final and has never been relegated.

Three relegation Ramsdale is still twice as good as him though.

England Pickford, yes

Everton Pickford, no
England and Everton Pickford haven't been any different performance wise for c. 5 years now. The only difference is that you see Everton Pickford over far more games.

I was told here repeatedly that it was essential to United’s success that we bring in a “modern keeper”.
yous lot need 5 new signings before you can play the kind of football that requires a "modern keeper"

Romero was way better than both ….pity he was at Utd tha same time as De Gea

Used to think Pickford was hideously overrated. Think it's now gone the opposite way and he gets nowhere near enough respect. Understandable as he's as unlikeable as they get but theres no contest as far as this thread goes. Pickford has proven himself for many years in the premier league and on the international stage in major tournaments

No. I think overall they're probably about the same level, Onana is here, 2 years younger and despite his recent awful problems dealing with crosses he's also had many matches where hes been our best or one of our best players, keeping us in the game with some good stops

It would be a typical signing for us. A player who at best might just be slightly better than what we have.

No. If we were to replace Onana, it should be for one of the best goalkeepers in the world or at least a young keeper with the potential to be amongst the world's best goalkeepers. Pickford is none of those things.

True, but the argument made by the hipsters here at the time we brought in Onana was that he was the lynchpin to unlocking the dynamic high press and rotation tactics that ETH tried to impose on this squad. But even if the squad ETH had was up to the challenge of his tactics Onana is no better than average as a shot-stopper and even at his best is no lynchpin to any tactical set up.

The money we spent on Onana and Mount, two completely useless signings, could and should have been spent on a proper midfielder. Casemiro did have an excellent first season under ETH but it was clear as could be he was long in the tooth. If you count that 60m in the tally that's 170m (60 for Mount, 50m for Onana and 60m for Casemiro) that could have been better spent while we develop the successor to De Gea from within our ranks and not waste 50m of that 170m on a keeper we didn't need nor would buy today if we could do it all over again.

No news flash here, but we've been badly run as a club since the day the Glazers took control of the club and they've allowed it to rot and we are now looking at a very long winter of decline. That's not Onana's fault, and I apologize for the digression, but the same moronic, short-sighted mentality that brought us Onana also brought us Sanchez, Pogba and numerous other players who have massively underperformed at Old Trafford over the last decade.

He wasn’t. The few prem games he started, he made a clown of himself, and a lot of people on here were shitting themselves after his performance against Swansea, when De Gea looked likely to leave.

I think you're saying this because it sounds like it'd be true but it's not. Sure he had a few shaky games at the start but certainly not the clown you claim him to be. After that game against Swansea, he was our bona fide keeper in our Europa League winning campaign without putting a foot wrong. Many fans were happy we had a solid No 2 we could readily call upon.

Rubbish …nobody was “shitting themselves” (perhaps just you?)

Argentina’s most capped goalkeeper says it all.

No, no and no. There’s nothing likeable about Pickford as a goalkeeper or person.
