Third despite key player injuries during long stretches of last season. Now six points off PL top, despite starting this season with a handicap. Those binding their happiness to a new manager incoming are facing challenging times :-)

Shhh. They will never acknowledge injuries as a valid reason.

I have no recollection of being the same under Jose. A lot were expecting title or bust. Since Ole took over fans expectations have spiralled to the bottom. Everyone looks for an excuse for being average and having up and downs. It’s Liverpool under Hodgson.

From the look of it more and more United supporters embrace being average and coupled with the board lack of ambition to win on the pitch is really sad to see.

Before Jose took over we had literally just won the FA Cup and finished behind Man City on goal difference. We had a young squad and proceeded to sign two players on record wages and broke the world transfer record.

Common sense would tell you that Everton are the HOME team the impetus was for them to attack and lead possession. We have won most of our away fixtures for this self same fact. The reason why Ole for example has struggled against Arsenal (home +, away) with Arteta is because this present Arsenal team don't play with a huge emphasis on possession hence they are a bogey team under our present management.

We are not a team that thrives on being tasked to take ownership of a game the fact our balance of play is so poor further highlights. It would be foolish for any fan to assume that Solskjaer is an attacking manager because we thrive under the opposite circumstances.

I’m pretty sure Everton and their fans would be happy as feck with a patient performance at 1-0, there’s no reason for them to play in a way that suits us.

Won’t disagree that we tend to do poorly against settled defences tho’

18/19: 66 points
19/20: 66 points
20/21: (currently on course for) 54 points

Upward trajectory?

Yeah, let’s extrapolate from less than a quarter of the season. We didn’t exactly look odds on to make top four last January either.

So many haters in here.

You can just feel it. That people are actually devestated that we won. Let me repeat that last sentence. People are devestade that our team won.

Busting for him to be sacked, literally raging when we win show some balls........they just deflect it of like it's coming.

Insane

The solution to a league and champions league winning team is so obvious. Hire Poch and keep on retainer Ole. Let Poch manage us for 90% of the matches, and against the top 6 or elite European Teams let Ole take charge.:lol::lol:

I think we're used to watching title challengers, which gives us this false notion that form is temporary and class is permanent, and that we're only a game away from putting together a long string of victories.

I guess that we just need to adapt to our new status as a perennial top four challenger, which inevitably comes with a lot of inconsistency - some weeks we'll get hammered, some weeks we'll dish out the hammerings. Spurs and Arsenal fans are probably pretty used to this by now.
Yes that is very much our current position and has been out position for a while.

That said I believe a club of our standing is able to make the changes required to convert us from top 4 challengers to title challengers IF the owners want that.

The latter being the all important question.

And the year before Ole took over we won EL and were 2nd in premier league?
You know when was the last time we finished 2 seasons in a row without winning even League cup?

I've no complaints with Ole's recruitment or man management. He's done a great job there. Tactically and in game is where he will lose his job. Today was not about going up against Everton and coming out on top as a team, they were outplaying us until Bruno turned superman, and would have continued to do so if he hadn't.
Everton couldn’t get out of their own half for most of the first half, even McManaman mentioned it. By shit Bruno must have done some work

What game you were watching?

Fred and McT had it under control in midfield.

Lindelof and Maguire won every header in the 2nd half. Calvert Lewin was quiet.

De Gea didn't have to do anything after their first goal.

It was our forward being wasteful this time.

Until Bruno scored they were winning more balls than us and making more passes.

Once that first goal went in the whole game changed.

That was their tactic. Any half decent coach knows we struggle against a deep sitting team.

No, people are devastated because failed Cardiff manager will now continue with ruining this clubs future. 3 points are great, every win is great but in a long run (which Ole fans look the most) Ole is disaster for this club.
Today's game changed nothing. He again proved that he knows to kill opposition team's game and in games like that he is like fish in water. But in 90% other games when we need to dominate, he is bad as it gets.

Now, with NT break plus couple of easy games after that, we will lose month or two to save a season.

And if we really want to go into trajectories.. We had 40 points from 21 games under Ole in 18/19.

So under Ole:

18/19: 1.90 ppg
19/20: 1.74 ppg
20/21: 1.43 ppg

"Upward trajectory"

You don't get it. 2nd with Jose was a failure because we were miles off City. 3rd with Ole on 66 points is a masterclass though and proves we are on a clearly upward trajectory.

We are quite good when we can counter atrack galore. Otherwise we're quite shite.

Apart from the last goal and that Rashford 1v1, I dont think we had any counters.

Apart from that, there was a chance by Martial that he should have scored. Rashford had a couple of headless chicken moments and in an ideal scenario, we should have scored from atleast one of those chances and then there was the Pen appeal, which I felt should have been given

Still not calling for Ole's head before New Year's at the earliest as I'm hoping, and also thinking, we'll go on a run and reaffirm ourselves. Even if it's still a bit scrappy, our season so far looks better than last anyways. Worst case scenario if Liverpool wins we're still just nine points off the top with a match to spare so...

I can't believe people are so eager to write us off when the season is still barely underway, calling for a regime change while the league is still warming up. Considering ours is a team renowned for it's ability to pick up momentum underway and score late winners, the level of defeatism, the instant fall into doom and gloom displayed by a lot of people in here, sure seems out of place. It's almost as if some of you want us to fail, that you feast on misery and do your best to maximize it whenever some is served.

I question how supportive it is jumping on every opportunity to slag our team off, dragging our players, coaches and manager through the mud every time we hit a bump, but to each their own I guess. I'm still excited about this season, my bar was set a year ago (solidified top-four by the end of this season) and it's still well within reach and we're even doing well in the Champions League (which I wasn't really expecting us to be part of this season), so unless we fall off that mark completely I'll just continue cheering them along hoping for the best.

Yes.

When Ole took over we were in massive trouble. We looked like we would finish bottom half.

We then improved massively.

Last year he got us to third and improved the football.

This year we are six games in to a season in which we had two weeks preseason build.

That was their tactic. Any half decent coach knows we struggle against a deep sitting team.

So did they dominated the game or did we dominated them?

From my point of view, if we were the better team 80% part of the game, we're the better team. Miles better.

I think that we were a lot better last year than the season we finished second.
Better how? We have bad runs and good runs which is bang average in the end. Leicester imploded and corona had big part in last season. We’re the same this season - good game, bad game. We have gone backwards both in the quality of the manager that we appointed and results.

Last year was the first time since the late 80’s we finished two seasons in a row without winning anything. That’s 20+ years right there.

This year will probably be the same so he has time to smash that record, despite some 300m poured in the meantime in players.

One player can change the direction of the game, that's what great players do, and that's what Bruno did. Until the point where he came to life we were a goal down and second best.

We were the better side overall I thought. Everton seemed to completely collapse after their goal - probably a case of taking their foot off the gas to sit in and defend their lead - they lost momentum and didn't really regain it until the latter stages.

I see many people saying Ole is the man for the job seeing the result. But Everton was shyte today, for all the ball they had in wing, they couldn't get DCL in the game. And the few times he got the ball, there were none to support him. Again, United did what they had been good at, i.e., countering a team that attacks. We can do that and has shown the same for some time. But the problem with Ole is he don't know any other game style (see how we suffer miserably against low block) and United under him is consistently inconsistent.
I still believe Ole just managed to escape the sack and prolong the inevitable. We really need someone with experience and better man management ability.

We improved massively when the season was written off, and then collapsed when it was no longer a write off after we played our way back into contention.

Last season we were abjectly awful for the first six months, then a combination of Bruno and Covid turned it around for us.

And this season so far we've been atrocious.

Aside from the period where Ole thought he was only the caretaker, the football has not improved at all from Mourinho. If you didn't know better you would think Ole was Mourinho's protégé the way he sets his teams up since becoming permanent manager.

Title or bust under Mourinho? I think anybody sane was hoping for us to return to challenging for the title. To expect the trophy is ludicrous, and would have been even under Fergie.

Your going on about winning things, if we won a cup this year you would be happy with Ole?

Nonsense, you and others would still campaign against your own manager for his sacking.

None of us really care a massive amount about domestic cups at this stage, we all want consistency in the league and to challenge.

We finished as high as ANY manager would have last season. Nobody was finishing higher than third against City and Pool last year.

I agree 3rd is nothing to be over the moon about but it’s something to build on. We’ve actually had a better start this season after today’s game than last season.

Let's just enjoy the win lads. After a hard week at work this was a good bit of joy for me.

It's a shame we aren't run like a proper footballing club these days. Because a proper footballing club would have brought in a better manager a long time ago, in addition to never appointing this one in the first place. On we go with another pointless win to continuously push back progress. 1 loss in the short run to get a better manager in or continuously wallow in the delusion that we are going anywhere as a club, I know which one any rational person will choose. We are going downwards and nowhere else, slowly and gradually becoming a 4th-7th place team. A bit like Everton during Moyes' heyday. We should bring him back.
You are mistaken. We got 3 points for winning today.

Can you not remember how bad we were under Mourinho?

Can you not remember Sanchez/Lukaku/Mikhitaryan standard of football? Or Bailly? Or the MOTM today signing for 50 million under Mourinho and not getting a look out?

For once though I'm really glad we're getting into the international break without a shitty lose before to keep us raged during these 2 weeks.

Bought himself a bit more time. We played OK today so I wont complain about that but it's just holding off the inevitable, he wont finish top 4 and will lose his job sadly.

The only problem is who's available when he goes, Poch etc might be off the market at that time.

suppose it’s better than our so called fans who were probably hoping we drop points today so that they can spend the afternoon posting on the Caf and feeling outraged.
They are the same, although the ones who would take a loss today to get rid of him are a little better than his fanboys. At least they are interested in being top again and not pure mediocre.

Feck off with that disrespectful shite. Not thinking hes good enough is fair game, but going out of your way to write that in instead of just "Ole" makes you look like a plastic

You have many fans around here targeting the title. At least that was the ambition when we hired Mourinho. Everyone knows Jose is not the one to stay 10 years at one place so normally when you hire someone like him you expect title challenge?
