Would you rather win the FA cup and keep Ten Hag or lose, sack Ten Hag?

Last 10 years we have seen these threads every year. Give 2 worse option and asking to pick one.

Win the Cup and sack him (more likely it will be lose the cup and then the sack).

LvG got sacked after we finished 5th on 66 points. At this rate, ETH will be lucky to finish 6th and get to 60 points.

Win or lose ETH has to be be sacked.

van Gaal won the FA cup just prior to being sacked …don’t see why it should be any different for ETH.

Van Gaal being booed by a section of United's support after we beat Palace is definitely one of our lowest moments of the last decade.

Too cowardly to add the third choice of win the FA Cup AND sack ETH I see.

With his wife delivering the news of his sacking to him, given Woodward was such a wimp.

I'd take the FA cup and keeping ETH, easily.

Let's be honest, we aren't winning the league or going to be in the CL next year, this is the biggest cup we will have a chance of winning for some time and would represent the first time we have won trophies in back to back seasons, which really is the minimum for what we should expect.

Then add in, whoever comes in might well be even worse.

You think that's cowardly?

I'd say including that third choice would be boring. We know a large majority on here want him gone, we know the club has sacked a manager before after winning the cup.

If it's win the cup and keep him or lose it and sack him it becomes a much more interesting question. How much do you value an FA Cup, how much do you want it even if you think ETH is the wrong person for the job?

I've wanted him gone since October, and would still see him sacked if we won it. That's easy. If winning it meant that sacking him was not an option I'd still choose to win it but I had to think about it.

We'll do a United special and lose the final and keep Ten Hag.

I like it when my team wins trophies.

A lot of posters trying to square this with wanting ETH sacked

So his fate should be decided by the outcome of one game? Ineos aren't that short-sighted, don't worry.

My dream scenario is that Ten Hag wins every game of the season, beats City 6-0 to win the FA cup, and manages us to glory the season after. Strangely, people would rather we lose every game and get humiliated in the cup, than see Ten Hag continue. The mind truly boggles.

That's why it's a dream, not reality. Obviously no competent board would decide manager's fate based on one cup game so there's no deep meaning to it, just a bit of fun. It's not that hard to comprehend why some would prefer what they see as a long term benefit to some short term success.

I'll take the trophy, thanks.

What happens afterwards? We'll see.

The most likely, and worse, scenario is that you're going to lose the final and keep him for the next season.

What a fecking ridiculous thread/question.

Want to win the cup and keep him. He had a great record at Ajax and a very good first season here. There is no credible alternative and we should give him one more season. Just don't trust any of the old leadership or him with authority over transfers.

Win. Obviously. There's no upside to getting done in an FA Cup final by City. Especially not two years running.

We should try with De Boer imo.

feck it, let's just lose all of our games until everyone at the club is approved by the internet mob. Sack everyone, sell everything. The FA cup doesn't matter anyway. fecking people.

You are supporting Man City to beat United. This makes you a City supporter. Again, fecking people.

You're adding a load on there. Nobody said anything about winning the other games this season or leading us to glory next. I want him sacked but if you can give me your dream then he's a definite keep!

If someone was convinced that he'd be a disaster next season even if we won the cup, that he'd be sacked during it after wrecking that campaign then does it not become a question? That's not far off my level of faith in ETH sad to say. I strongly believe he'll be very poor next season if he is here but would like to think we'd sack him before the entire campaign was ruined if he was. As such, I'd still take winning the cup because of that, and because I love the FA Cup. I'm from the age where people do.

The team he built never reached the heights of the team he was given at the start. Probably why the team he has built here sucks as well.

I think he should be sacked regardless of result.

So you’re undecided then?

That's completely fair. My general point was just one of disgust that people are seemingly so actively invested in Ten Hag failing that they'd rather City beat us in the FA cup final. They're so entrenched in their stance that they'd rather us lose than win on the biggest stage in the country. What even is a supporter now?

Yeah got a bit angry there, my bad

You’re right though. Something very strange about wanting a manager to lose a cup final. Ultimately if he is still here by Christmas, it’ll be because he’s turned it around. Wouldn’t mind a nice FA Cup in that time

That's quite a reaction considering the amount of those who voted they want us to lose is... zero?
Win and keep, but can sympathise or whatever the word is with the question itself.

The FA Cup has never been particularly important for people of a certain age. We all know what happened to LVG after winning it too, so it's not big to our higher ups either.

LVG going of course means that win and sack is very much on the cards, but it very much does show how the FA cup is regarded too, making it a legitimate question of sorts. Nobody would ask this question of the Champions League or Premier League. The FA Cup or Europa League is where it begins for some.
I think that's quite understandable. People say it's a prestigious trophy but it's mostly in the name/tradition than anything else. Look at our run to the final. Wigan, Newport, Nottingham, Liverpool, Coventry. Basically one single good opponent.
