Would you prefer taking slow approach in transfer window or an massive overhaul of our squad?

I just don't see the club having the fortitude to take a ruthless approach. Also, without a director of football or someone with a clear footballing vision for the club, it seems it would just be more wasted money.

You can hate the Glazers all you want, but outside of the weirdness of last summer, they've footed the bill in both wages and transfer fees. The money has just been horribly mis-spent and until the clowns making those types of decisions are replaced, I just don't see the club being able to make the right signings so what's the point? feck I'm depressed now.

“They’re good players you know, but they’ve hit a brick wall more or less towards the end and we’ll get them positive again, optimistic again. Today, we created an unbelievable amount of chances, we just couldn’t score, and that’s human nature. When you’re not confident, feeling the world’s against you, those margins will go against you.” - Ole yesterday

I thought it's worth to post the video here, it's a great video.

, they explained perfectly.

This is something Woodward could learn from if he needs to make decisions in the long term, not short term fix or changing value.

Ole seems to understand we have to take a slow approach in the transfer market like 3/4 out and 3 or 4 in, rather than a complete overhaul of the squad which is very high risk and could set us backwards. He needs a coherent team who can have cohesion understanding on pitches.

I feel like our first team is half good with the likes of Pogba, Lindelof, Shaw, De Gea I believe is good for us in the future but the rest need to be upgraded in RW, RB CB, CM and DM. Another attacker if Rashford is not setting fire on and be an average striker.

I think in the next three 3 season is very important for us as we need a better return on investment and hope they'll turn out to be a good signing.

I know I'm a bit late to the party, but I think that's a bad video. I think we all know that it's better for clubs to have a plan/philosophy and a DoF/network that can identify players who fit into it, the better your setup the more efficient you can spend money. I don't need a video for that bit of wisdom. But beyond that the video tries to make some pretty strange points. Like Watford being better because they spent less?
You can sometimes be successful with little spending, but you can also be Guardiola and win record breaking titles after having just bought two teams worth of players or you can win 3 CLs in a row after trying to sign the biggest name in the game each year.

Major overhaul needed
A lot of the current players don't deserve to be starters anyways.

10 new players in, 13 current players out

buy: Jovic (60mil), Pepe (45mil), James (15mil)

For midfield,
sell: Pogba (150mil), Pereira (10 mil)
release: Herrera, Matic
buy: Rodri (60mil) or Rice (55mil), Aouar (60mil) or van de Beek (50mil), Maddison (50mil), Bruno Fernandes (45mil)

For defence,

release: Valencia
buy: Maguire (60mil), Manolas or Toby (30mil), AWB (35mil) or Meunier (30mil)

From sales and releases, it sums up to around 340mil
From purchases, it sums up to around 460 mil

*of all the players, Young probably has the worse value. so we'll be keeping him

You've got to cut out the bad before the healing can start. Need at least half of the starting 11 to change, some players will improve.

I know Rashford, Martial and Lukaku take some flack on here but ultimately all 3 are top class strikers in different ways, they have lacked service from midfield, or they are on the wings putting that service in when they should be in the box, cannot help but think they would all improve if played in a front two or 10/9 (only 2 of them obviously before anyone picks that up), if getting service from a decent AM and width both sides, Utds biggest issue for several seasons now is that we have no right side, so all attacks go down the left so it is realatively easy to block off.

Martial's attitude would greatly improve if he was scoring goals, I do not say that to excuse his current malaise, but it is potentially a problem we could fix and potentially a talent to keep.

If we are losing a striker then it has to be Lukaku, he has been putting a shift in and is an instinctive finisher, btu doesn't suit the style of football we need him to play and does not have the fitness levels to play 90 mins back to front at pace.

Midfield only ones to surcice for me would be McT then Mata & Lingard (from the bench),

Defence would keep Lindelof, Shaw then Bailey who was looking good for a while so think could get back there, Dalot who has potential even just as an auxillairy player, Smalling and Jones can warnm a bench but nowt more.

De Gea should be kept but if a decent deal comes in would give Romero/Henderson a season

Fans have been demanding a "big overhaul" and "big transfer windows" every season since Ferguson left. Where has it got us? Almost exactly the same place we were at the end of the Moyes season.
We haven't actually done any big overhaul though so the valid question is: where have the patient, incremental changes got us?

There’s a lot that need to be moved on this summer so I’d get rid of Grant, Darmian, Valencia, Bailly, Rojo, Herrera, Fred, Mata, Pogba, Sanchez and Lukaku for starters then bring in Wan-Bissaka, Alderweireld, Maguire, Tierney, Rice, Rabiot, Eriksen, Sancho, Daniel James and Dybala as well as promoting Henderson, Tuanzebe, Garner, Gomes, Chong and Greenwood but that’s all highly unlikely unfortunately.

To be fair LVG did try to execute an overhaul in both 2014 and 2015 but the problem is his purchases were poor (even though in truth many of us were happy with them at the time) and there were a few that should have been kept (Evans, Rafael, Welbeck, Hernandez).

2014 Outs:
Ferdinand
Evra
Welbeck
Kagawa
Zaha
Vidic
Anderson
Buttner
Keane
+ a few others

2014 Ins:
Herrera
Shaw
Di Maria
Valdes
Blind
Rojo
Fosu-Mensah
Falcao

2015 Outs
Evans
Nani
Hernandez
RVP
Cleverley
Rafael
Lindegaard
+ few others

2015 Ins
Memphis
Darmian
Romero
Schweinsteiger
Schneiderlin
Martial

So it goes to show that an overhaul is possible, whether it works is another question. I would personally only be getting rid of Valencia, Rojo, Darmian, Sanchez. And looking to bring in a right back (AWB), centre back (Toby), Centre mid (no idea), RW (anyone), Striker - I would argue that striker is our biggest concern, we lack genuine goal threat.

I don't ever see a situation with 10 in and 10 out like some of us are hoping for. We need to be ruthless and probably look at this as a 2 year job to trim trim the fat. To do that we need to improve and get CL football next year.

We need upgrades in defense, midfield and attack.

No issues with GKs unless DDG forces his way out the club. In that case options are limited as top keepers are at top clubs already. Possibly use Romero as stop gap and then promote Henderson.

Valencia is gone already. Darmian and Rojo should go for the sake of their own careers. Jones/Smalling/Bailly are all replaceable but I could only see one of them going this summer with 2-3 departures in total. Young will run out his contract. Shaw, Dalot and Lindelof will stay on.

Herrera is gone. Mata could be kept to boost squad numbers. Matic should be moved on but won't be. I think we will listen to offers for Pereria. Pogba all depends on whether he forces a move to Madrid and if Madrid have the cash to take him. Could be delayed until next year.

Lukaku has talked up a move to Italy and Martial looks like he could be an issue behind closed doors. Martial I think will be kept due to his talent alone, Lukaku could move this year. Rashford is the golden boy and will stay and play no matter what.

We need to solidify at the back and add a creative spark. This is essentially what the dippers have done these past couple of years - not that i expect us to be at their level soon.

De Ligt / Koulibaly - Koulibaly probably the more attainable of the two
Rice / Ndidi - Destroyer role to plug the gaps the likes of Matic allow people to walk through
Tielemans / Fernandes - Creative spark in the middle. Either one would compliment Pogba nicely, maybe both if he leaves
Doucoure - Energy and a good extra man in the middle when we need to beef up the midfield
Sancho - Would give us width on the right and another outlet of goals and assists
Jovic - Looks a class act and ready to step up

I think we need 4 of those roles to be filled this summer and then the remaining ones the next and plug any gaps in the squad that arise in between. Sancho and Jovic being probably the most difficult to do this summer.

--------------------DDG-----------------------
Dalot---DeLigt/Koulibaly---Lindelof---Shaw
-----------------Rice/Ndidi--------------------
-----Fernandes/Tielemans--Pogba----------
---Sancho------------------------Martial/Rashford
--------------------Jovic-------------------

I know lots of people (pundits included) say we have to be patient and can't go for quick. But we've got slowly slowly before and it's got us to where we are now. Also quick fixes work of you get the right tools and the right parts. And frankly, we have so much deadwood, not sure we have a choice. All of which is irrelevant since Ole's seemingly signaled who he wants to stay by giving new contracts to oafs like Young, Jones and Smalling who should be nowhere near Old Trafford other than as spectators

We were at a snails pace last summer.

A big clear-out is more important at this stage. Get the foundations right to build on bit by bit over the next few seasons.

If you analyse who is going and what's left, the picture becomes clearer. I'm a Wolves fan so doing this completely objectively based on contract lengths etc!

Out of contract players

We know Valencia, Herrera and (probably) Mata are off, so that's 3 gone. Pereira is also out of contract but has a 1 year option, which will probably be taken up.

Players with 1 year left on their contract

The choice here is offer a new contract, sell them for a reduced fee or lose them for nothing next summer.

This summer, De Gea, Grant, Bailly, Young, Darmian, Matic and Rashford all have 1 year remaining on their current deals. Plus Pereira if his option is taken up.

We know the club are trying to renew contracts for De Gea and Rashford, but have hit some stumbling blocks.

Bailly, Darmian and Matic will probably be sold as they retain some value but will not get new contracts and the club will probably cash in rather than lose them for nothing. The same may happen with De Gea and Rashford if no progress is made on a new contract. Grant and Young will provide squad cover and probably leave for free next summer. Pereira might be given a new contract based on his levels of performance next season.

Players with 2 years left on their contracts

Romero, Rojo, Lindelof, Pogba and Lingard all have 2 years left. Rojo has been told he can leave and probably will this summer. From a value perspective, now is the time to sell Pogba if you want to recoup what you paid for him. I expect the others to stay.

Summary of players definitely leaving:

DF: Valencia
MF: Herrera

Summary of players probably leaving:

DF: Bailly, Rojo, Darmian
MF: Mata, Matic

Summary of players maybe leaving (I don't think they all will, but at least one will probably go):

GK: De Gea
MF: Pogba
FW: Rashford, Sanchez

Remaining Squad:

GK: De Gea, Romero, Grant
RB: Dalot
LB: Shaw, Young
CB: Lindelof, Smalling, Jones
MF: Pogba, Fred, McTominay, Pereira
FW: Rashford, Lukaku, Martial, Sanchez, Lingard

Plus additional cover from Greenwood, Chong, Gomes, Garner and Tuanzebe.

Priority Signings:
  • 1st Choice Right Back
  • 1st Choice Centre Back
  • 1st Choice Holding Midfielder
  • 1st Choice Central Midfielder
  • 1st Choice Left-Footed Right Winger
  • Replacement for whoever leaves from the 'maybe' list
Based on this, I'd go all out for Wan-Bisakka, Maguire, Rice, Rabiot and Pepe.

I think it is a balance of the two, with slightly more than the usual four or so players in/out over each season.

This season we got rid of Fellaini (in Janaury), along with Valencia and Herrera already. There will be more to follow from the likes of Rojo, Darmian, Mata, Sanchez etc most likely. It's going to be a departure amount of around 6-7 players, possibly eight or more if we decide to call time on some of the younger players as well.

I'm not sure if we can keep up this departure rate for 2-3 seasons, but I think the target should be to try and mould this into a as much of a 'one manager' team as possible in three years. You'd usually want a squad of 18 players that are your players, some inherited from youth/previous squad but mostly yours. It's doable in three seasons IMO, if you can lose between 6-8 each year and sign six yourself. A massive problem of our squad is that it's made up of players from Fergie, Moyes, van Gaal, and Mourinho and is now going to have Ole's input. Every player will have performed better or worse under different managers and other than Fergie initially, none of these managers have been given the right support or enough time to really build their own Manchester Untied. It takes a minimum of three years and full transfer support to build your own team IMO. Ole needs to get this.

Ideally after three seasons he will have sold everyone who he believes can't cut it and hopefully almost all of his signings work out. It's a tall order but if Ole is going to be the man they've chosen, he has to be given every bit of help and the full tenure. If they sack him after 1-2 years it's worse than sacking him before the start of this season, because it'll be too stop-start and disjoint an already disjointed squad further. Minimum of six players sold/released for the next three years please. Sign slightly less than that and promote youth.

when did playing championship manager become real life??

I would like 4/5 but have them in nice and early get a good preseason together. rather than rushed signings in august

How come people say it´s not possible to move out 8-10 players in one transfer window? City have been moving them out in herds, before 2017/18 season they got rid of Iheancho,Onal,Bony,Moy,Nolito,Fernando,Kolarov,Nasri,Hart,Navas,Clichy,Zabaleta to name a few. What´s the point in keeping players that are nowhere good enough and will not improve? For the last years apart from Ibra when he was here the most positive things have been seeing Rashford,McTominay and now a glimpse of Greenwood,Gomes and Garner. Get rid of the deadwood, sign some really good players and play the youngsters. Ajax did that and that has not worked out badly for them. I can not understand the logic in not giving the young ones a chance as we hardly have world class players in the squad. Greenwood was by far the best United player in the last game and Gomes is just a joy to watch, a really underrated player by some but one that can pass the ball in tight spaces with ease. Unlike most of the current first team players that seem afraid of the ball, lack movement and just do not have the passing ability needed.

Make an effort to buy Martin Ødegård before its too expensive or he cracks Reals regular squad. He's been absolutely fantastic for Vitesse this season. (way better metrics than Frenkie De jong who's 1 year older and on his way to Barca. 7g 9a this season, 8 MotM awards. He's going to develop into a perfect ball distributor and playmaker with scoring upside. Ajax are trying to buy him to replace Hakim Ziyjech.

Get rid of Pogba if he doesnt want to be a team first guy
