Would you choose a win against Brighton in the league or the FA cup now?

In our current form that seems to have a big (away) loss in it every few weeks and given Brighton’s current form, winning either od those would be big. One means a place in another cup final and the other big step towards securing top 4. Will be buzzing with either if it happens.

Tbh we can lose every away game remaining and we would still finish top 4 (liverpool would need maximum points to get 71 points, just 4 home wins gives us 71 points). 69 points will probably be enough given other fixtures. Also I have some hope for Bournemouth away at least, as we do dominate vs bottom half teams away like vs Forest. Brighton and West Ham are certain losses. Spurs is more up in the air where I can see us doing something actually. Generally speaking though, could see something like 4 points from 4 away games, and 10 points from 4 home games to close the season as a worst case scenario, which is us on 73 points.

I'm not enthusiastic about losing the final against City, to be totally honest.

Why are we suddenly making Brighton look like they're peak Barcelona. They are below us in the league aren't they? People overhype them because no one expects anything from Brighton so when they're performing relatively well for their stature, suddenly everyone goes overboard. They are not mauling anyone, if they were, they'd be higher up the table. We should beat them and if we don't, it will be because we underperform.
People said worse things about the current Sevilla side.

Not buzzing at prospect of City humiliation, therefore maybe league points has to be the priority but that's not a given either

The league. The only reason i'd care about the fa cup is to stop city winning it and i fancy brightons chances at stopping them more than ours.

FA Cup. Don't want to finish the week with two cup exits, winning on Sunday extends the season another week and who knows in a final, sure Wigan beat Man City one year...

Semi final of course and that's with the possibility of being trashed in the final by City.
The closer you are to winning something, the better. They don't give trophies for 3rd or 4th spot

League, obviously. Absolute no brainer. Hell, even a point there would be massive.

Getting battered by City in a final does nothing for our long-term (or short term, for that matter) objectives.

Pretty sure that if we get through in the cup, City will hand us a 6 or 7 goal drubbing in the final. We don't have the mentality for a knockout game at the moment and too little shame to arrest a free fall once things start going against us.

I hope Brighton will spare us any more embarrassment. Just score enough goals to win the tie.
Can't imagine me saying that. But I'm just being realistic and truthful.

I’d be as nervous as the next fan about losing heavily to City in the final but to prefer a league win over Brighton, when we can still afford to drop points and make top four, over a place in the FA Cup final is just bizarre. Cup final day is what the players play for and the fans follow for, this is what it’s all about. I do get that the cowardice of the team rubs off onto the fans, though. That’s what we’re seeing a lot of at the moment due to horrendous performances like last night.

Maybe its PTSD from a lot of our big game results, but I don't see how we can go into a potential FA Cup final with City with any sort of confidence that we wouldn't get thrashed. All our big games in the last 3 months or so have ended in bitter disappointment. It just wouldn't end well. If Sheffield United can spring a shock on Saturday, then its a different conversation.

League. We won’t beat City, call it defeatism but we can just about beat them playing with our best 11 at OT. They are firing on all cylinders and will beat us easily with our mentality and lack of squad depth.

We need top 4 and our form away against anyone half decent is shite.

Yepp league

We are going to get annihilated by city, no ifs or buts.

Even the saying 'anything can happen in football' doesn't apply here when its Maguire and that defence against City

It's going to get embarrassing and them beating us to get a potential treble, no thanks

Brighton will probably have a better chance at beating City in the final, slim as it is.

I'd trust Brighton to beat City more than us right now in the final with our key men either injured or out of form.

I'd rather do them in the league. Top 4 is not as set in stone as some people think. Our fixture list is not that easy and we have to play our nearest competitors away.

Embarrassing (but realistic) where we are as a club right now that we aren't confident about beating Brighton (no disrespect).

Doesn't have to be a humiliation vs City. That game will be played on June 3rd, perhaps we'll have all players back except for Martinez, so a Shaw-Varane partnership may be able to deal with City. But I understand your fear, we've experienced some serious thrashings over last 18 months or so.

I don’t think any club in this league can be confident of beating this current Brighton side. City excepted, unfortunately. The only match they’ve lost recently was to the referee in charge of their game with Spurs. He absolutely battered them.

Cup, no doubt about it.

I'm not worried about top four - Tottenham are going to drop plenty of points, along with Brighton and Newcastle. Also, top four isn't as interesting as going for a cup at this stage.

A lot of pessimism around playing City and Brighton, but that actually makes me think that we will play well against them. People on here are terrible and predicting results, so I always think the opposite.

People thought we would beat Liverpool easily before we lost 7-0.

I think we are due for a big unprecedented result about now, so I fancy us to win the FA Cup against all odds, as long as Maguire remains sat in the team bus. I'm assuming DDG will have to play as we don't have any other decent options.

I know this is counter intuitive but I wish we'd lost to Barca. If we had we would have fresher players and Martinez. I don't think we will win the FA Cup AND get top four anyway given the state of our squad and top four is the one that matters.

I don't want to be this negative but I really wouldn't be able to stand to be trashed by City again after that Liverpool game. And that's what I fear will happen in a FA cup final against them.

Let us go out of the FA cup to a dodgy VAR call and I will be happy, not getting beaten by City in the final and securing top 4

Start of the season I would have snapped your hand off for a cup and top 4, 3rd better still, I think our mid season form got us thinking too far ahead, recent injuries have demonstrated just how shallow the quality of our squad is, 1st 11 is top 2 or 3, 2nd 11 closer to bottom 2 - 3

I am afraid of an implosion of form and results that can make us lose top 4. So a win in the league please. Get the season over with a CL qualification and a trophy and it's ok.

I'm really happy that we showed we can live with a proper European giant, one that plays technical, possession-based football. That's quite important. That tie is the biggest indicator of progress under Ten Hag and I wouldn't swap it for somewhat fresher players.

Yeah it was full of positives but if we don't get top four from the position we were in just through chasing too much then we fekked it and did a stupid.

Love the FA Cup but would quite happily bow out now for three league points and avoid an inevitable dry-bumming from City in the final.

Very defeatist but the twats on the pitch are running on fumes now so just want CL football to look forward to and the lads lifting aloft that sweet, sweet top-four trophy.

There is no shame in losing against City but there is a good chance they would humiliate us. So I agree with you.

Concentrate on the league. Getting smashed by City in the final isn't doing us any favours anyway.

The league.

Top 4 is critical for us so the sooner we secure that, the better.

Also, in all honesty, Brighton would have a better chance of beating City in the final and ending their treble quest because they're simply a better team than us atm.

I feel there's been a shift in opinion in the Caf. Three months ago it was all 'chase everything we are top reds' but now reality has seeped through.
