Would you be satisfied if we only won the league?

So I think every united fan was desperate to see us win the league after what happened last season but given the current circumstances would you be satisfied with just the league?

Currently we're 12 points ahead and whilst the leagues not over it is looking extremely likely that we'll win it at a canter from the remaining games. The champions league will be a challenge considering the standard this season but with Arsenal losing earlier to Blackburn that only leaves Chelsea and City as the only big boys left in the cup. With Reading at home and the potential of an easy draw next round it looks like a very winnable competition and the fact that we havent won it for 10 years makes me want it more than ever this year.

So what does the caf think?

Im sure many of us would've taken the league prior to the season starting but given the current form and league position would the league satisfy you this season?

Yes. But i would be terribly disappointed if we don't win the FA Cup this year, and at least get past Madrid after a favourable result in the first leg

Yes, of course. The league is #1, but I would be a tad disappointed not to win the FA Cup - about time.

Absolutely and it's the same case for me every season. League is priority and anything else is a nice bonus. The League is even more important after what happened last May.

The LEague is a must, anything else is a bonus as far as I am concerned

been too long since we held that FA Cup that is for sure. Will settle for just the league tho.. I guess it depends how/if we go out of the FA Cup. If we get a repeat of 08 and get knocked out by some unjust result like that Portsmouth game i'll be fuming.

Should of been the treble that year. Just sayin.

Yes

I'm disappointed we didn't win the CL again due to Barca's brilliance, but we're now in transition between that side and something new.

We're probably not good enough to win the CL - if we come up against Barca again it will be embarrassing - but it would be a great achievement to win the league with most of that great side over thirty or moved on.

Not if it's over a two legged tie

Honest answer? No.

I think the league is just about done as I can't see City making up a point a game on us between now and May. As for the FA Cup, we have a very nice draw against Reading at home, which should see us into the quarter-finals, where there are quite a few lower-league teams waiting already. With some luck, luck which has deserted us in this competition with ten years now, we could find ourselves in the Final after some kind draws.

The Champions League is finely poised, but we had a great result midweek. We'll start as slight favourites against Madrid in two weeks and it's going to be a cracker. If we keep them to one goal, I think we'll go through as we definitely have goals in us at Old Trafford. After that, who knows what the draws will bring, but unlike the FA Cup, there will be no handy draws available this time around. Bayern, Dortmund, Barcelona, Juventus and PSG are all extraordinarily talented teams and it's going to take a superb team to win the competition this year.

Personally, I think we'll win the league and the FA Cup, but we'll come unstuck in the Champions League, maybe in the semi-finals. Squad management, something in which Fergie is excellent at, will be vital so his genius could propel us towards another Treble. Some posters are claiming that the league being wrapped up early will be good for our other prospects, but look at '99: every game we played in all competitions in the final two months went down to the wire, and the squad reveled in it. Whether the 2012/13 variation has that in them is another question.

I suppose that's a long way to say that, no, I won't be happy with just a league title.

da fuq? of course. and this is coming from someone who would trade a few of our leagues for more european cups.

but this thread is dumb because everyone knows the treble is ON!

I'll be delighted with the league and it will be seen as a great yea to have won it back from City so quickly, but there will be a note of disappointment if we don't go pretty far in at least one of the other two comps.

Also, Plech is right, if we meet Barca we'll beat them so bad they'll be embarrassed.

After last season yes. The priority this year was getting the league back it was horrible losing it like we did, the Champions League is arguably the bigger competition but for me I want the league more than anything this year.

If you'd have given me just the league at the start of the season I'd have gladly taken it. Particularly because of the manner we lost it in.

But...now we have a decent shot at the FA Cup, I think we can win that. And the CL is always the one I want at the start of the season, it would be huge to win that again.

But I'd be happy to finish the season with the Premier League title, it would be a successful season.

Everyone saying that's said no. Yeah the league looks pretty straight forward from now, but how could you not be satisfied with just winning the league, a 20th league title?

if you cant be satisfied with JUST being champions of England, especially after the finale to last season and after what City have spent over the last few seasons you are spoiled

I think we have a solid chance of getting the domestic double, so I admit I will be a tad bit disappointed if we only end up with the league...as spoiled as that sounds.

That being said, considering last year's climax its possible we'll end up with nothing too..

I (and I presume others share my opinion) think that given the league is pretty much done we should be able to focus our attention on the cups and start our best team there while starting the likes on Anderson/Hernandez/Welbeck more regularly for the remainder of the league season.

Beyond ridiculous though????

Do you think Fergie will be satisfied with just the League from this position?

from the OP "given the current circumstances would you be satisfied with just the league"...

Well the league is won, as we all know, and the treble is ON.

I hope the players have a better attitude than you :smirk:

Yeah exactly. If you offered me just the league at the start of the season I would have been satisfied with that. But in the situation we're in right now, with the squad we have, I'm greedy for a few more big European nights and cup games. I was just thinking that if we were to lose our next two games, the season would get quite dull.

Absolutely.

But I do think we have the squad for more this season.

Well, no. I don't think Fergie will be satisfied, but it's not his job to be satisfied.

Same as above. The manager and the players do not have the luxury to just be satisfied.

I'm still not convinced the league is as over as everyone says it is. If we go out of the CL in a couple of weeks it could knock the players' confidence and I just think it's very arrogant to be this confident in February. The ending to last season makes it almost impossible for me to assume that the league is over, and while I understand people will be more confident than I am, I think we should just calm down a bit.

Fair enough Irwin, "beyond ridiculous" was an exaggeration. Maybe the question should've been "Would you be disappointed not to win a cup this year?".

I'd like a domestic double, champions league would just be a bonus. By next year, European Cup should be a priority if we add a genuine top class midfielder/Winger.

Yes

Just to be a pedantic gobshite, we're certainly good enough to win the CL. We're probably as good or better than two of the previous three winners. We're not the best team in the competition of course, so it'll likely take a fair slice of luck for us to win it.

Completely agree about the rest - we're still in transition especially in defence, and winning the league would represent a very satisfying season.

Of course I'd be happy to just win the league, it's pretty much what I had expected at the start of the season. Obviously I would love to see us win the CL again under Fergie but given the strength of it this year and the problems in certain areas and aspects of our team, it's more of a hope than an expectation.
