He's been playing football at the first division since he was 17. Started off with Standard Liège, the most successful Belgian League teams ever. Won the Ebony Shoe award there (an award given annually to the best player of African origin). Was successful at Everton, winning the young player of the year in 2008-09.
So, he's been playing professionally for 9 years now and is just 26. Surely he must have some talent that could be utilized at United. Would a new manager be able to develop the dude into a better footballer? Your thoughts?

Highly doubt it. It was Moyes that got the best out of him at Everton, we have seen his best.

No don't think so his skillset is just too limited. Cleverley on the other hand - maybe.

Pretty terrible if Moyes couldn't even get the best out of Fellaini.

I think he can, but he needs the new manager to show some faith in him first, he could at least be a good cover in midfield for years to come.

Perhaps. I'm not sure if Moyes has ever encouraged him to play football.

He was effective under Moyes at Everton, it's not the manager that's been his problem with us, it's that he isn't a United type player.

You actually Need some basic technical ability to improve, which Fellaini hasn't. Cleverley on the other hand has all the basic skills which can't be taught at this age. So good for him he already has them. He lacks direction, courage and decision making, which can be improved with the right coach/manager.

I think so, there were times this season that he looked somewhat useful. This coming from a guy that didn't want us to sign him and has slated his performances for most of the season.

He needs direction.

Meaaah...I think all footballers at the professional level do possess technical ability in varying degrees. You wouldn't be a professional footballer without talent. The competition is fierce and not every talented guy makes it. But those who do cannot be without talent. For sure.

Depends on his character I would think. I feel very sorry for him.

Whether he's good enough or not, he will always be looked upon as the panic solution to a summer of transfer fiascos, that no one here really wanted him to come. Must be difficult for him.

Well, he will probably need another two years to settle with the new manager, and then he will be 30 (already old).

So don't bet on it.

I still think Fellaini could do potentially do a good job as a defensive midfielder for us.

Our attempt to play him in a box-to-box role was painful, especially as he was seemingly under instructions to just abandon the midfield and jog into the box awaiting a cross. When a number of awkward chances did fall to him in the box he doesn't have the technique to take the opportunity. He also then wasn't able to get back quickly enough.

He should be nowhere near the opposition goal other than at set-pieces. But he does have enough ability on the ball to play in defensive midfield, plus of course he has the physicality. The question is then can we get him to 1) stop giving away silly fouls and 2) hone his defensive positioning. I think those are two aspects that can be improved on even in older players - and he would also benefit from playing in a deeper role and not having to waste energy pushing forwards.

This. Fellaini works well under a certain style of football, so I have my doubts we'll see much improvements from him here. One there thing, I think he's best when plays as an attacking midfielder and that will never happen here.

Carroll? I just can't imagine a ball-playing manager having any use of him. We have to wait and see anyway who we get and what his ideas are.

Like the rest of our players, i'm going to give him a clean slate. Pretty much no-one - even established stars like RvP, Vida and Rooney - played to their full potential under Moyes. So you can bet Fellaini wasn't either.

If the next doesn't rate him and wants to get rid, then adios. But let's just see what he's capable of doing under a (hopefully) better manager than Moyes.

He's 26 now.
My post was essentially sarcastic (taking a shot at the excuses we heard from some during the season for our failures under Moyes).

I don't think he's a good fit for us, even if he stopped at 27 years and played 10 years for us. He might end up completing the rotation in less important games. Can't see him featuring in the big games though.

The fact is that, United style player or not, he's been far far worse this season that at any point in the last few years at Everton, even when he played a deeper midfield role at Everton.

If a new manager makes a positive happy training environment for everyone then we'll no doubt see a lot more from Fellaini.

Will that be enough to make him a first teamer? I'd guess not. But he could at least contribute to our performances rather than detract from them.

Supposedly he is a key player for Belgium. Will be interesting to see how they use him the world cup. Maybe this will give us a indication as to how to use him if at all.

I wouldn't be surprised if he's not even in the squad on Saturday.

I can't see it. The next manager will hopefully and probably have us playing with more flair and pace. He'll find even less use in Fellaini.

Fixed.

I often get those two words confused too (in case you're not sure, I'm being incorrect here).
No I wasn't incorrect. I was being sarcastic, mocking those stupid excuses.

Players aren't finished when they're 30 either.

I don't think he is good enough and have been quite critical of him, but I think he should get a bit of a chance under the next manager. Coming in as Moyes' boy from Everton can't have been easy to a dressing room that didn't even want Moyes, especially for an overinflated price tag. Maybe he can be useful as a squad player, never first XI.

There's no reason why he couldn't improve under a new manager. Henderson was going nowhere under Kenny and has suddenly developed into a very good midfielder under Rodgers.

I do think Fellaini can do the same.

Depends how he's used again... clearly never going to be a decent level player considering the fee, pointless selling on now though..

I'd imagine Fellaini will be sold, there will be a few teams in for him. I'd hope we could get 15-17 million for him.

Well LVG/Ancelotti/Klopp is not going to play him behind RVP which is the position he thrived in at Everton. I still expect him to go around elbowing opponents if he ever plays for us again

I believe Fellaini will thrive under a manager like van Gaal, so the answer is yes.
