So there's still a fe hours left?
It might still happen, lads!
Alderweireld and Dembele, i read it in my tarot cards just now!!!!

Smalling and Jones are probably clinking glasses somewhere celebrating another year of torturing us.

Smalling: "Another year. How do we get away with it?"

Jones: "Uga uga?"

Smalling: "Quiet, Phil. Drink your Ribena."

Some of our players live an incredibly charmed life

Honestly some have got away with mediocrity for years because of the upheaval and uncertainty with managers.

Assuming we don't get another CB today, I hope we start with the Leicester game with Bailly and Lindelof. I'd like to see those two given a chance to prove themselves as a partnership.

Let us all be honest with ourselves; We are not genuinely competing for the title in the upcoming season never mind winning it.

Didn't Mourinho say last year he wanted 4 signings and if the club got him the fourth(Perisic), he would be extremely satisfied and that is exactly what happened with Matic, Lindelof & Lukaku(even though we all knew they would not suffice) and what was the result? City cruising with a massive gap to the title.

He said not too long ago that he is not expecting a lot of changes to the squad and that he is probably looking at 2-3 max. He means it and it's not one for the cameras or like some say, said to "prevent clubs from knowing our budget". That is what will happen.

We all know we will not win the league. Why?
Because the likes of Jones, Smalling, Fellaini, Young, Valenica, Lingard, Rashford, Martial etc who are not good enough are still here and will play key roles yet again in what will be a culmination of frustrations, abuses, rants from pundits and fans alike.

We can complain all we want but Mourinho is not gonna be as ruthless as Pep is and ship them out.

Don't set yourselves up for any dissapointments. Deal with the reality. We will likely be in the race for 2nd-4th and you can quote me on this when the season ends.

I posted this a while ago and I still stand by it... Gonna be a long, arduous season for us fans.

At this late stage in the game, it's Toby or nothing. I am actually OK with us signing nobody now because I genuinely think Centre Back is a 'nice to have' addition rather than a 'need to have' such as new fullbacks and a right sided attacker. If we had filled those positions we could have challenged with what we had and picked up an improved CB like we have been linked with next summer.

The frustrating thing for me is we haven't addressed the glaring weaknesses in the squad.

They mentioned on Football Today that if a deal is agreed in principle before 5PM, then the clubs have until midnight to get the registration done.

I think there is something to this. I think all the media hubbub about Jose, 3 year syndrome, likes tall players, very defensive and any other story that gets bandied about is not actually something that would get you sacked / sour the relationship with players or a chief executive / chairman.

The one thing that however will consistently get you sacked in any company is relentlessly pointing out the errors made by your boss and not giving them anywhere to hide.

I can see that Jose has been putting the pressure on Ed with public statements of lists / expectations of signatures, similar to his "eggs" speech of a few years ago. However if he highlights that Ed made a mistake in going out on a limb for Martial then that could end his career at United.

If Ed can think of Martial as an LVG signing then he may let it pass. However if, as I suspect, he has been crowing about his "foresight" in investing in Martial before the market took off, then casting him aside now will seem like a very public kick in the teeth for Ed. Events today will be significant, but so will the long drawn out wait for Europe's transfer window to close.

If Mourinho doesn't get who he wants, then I can see him playing a clearly disgruntled Martial in the games we have while that window is open to highlight this, driving his value down rather than up.

Feels like we are at a massive turning point for the club and I'm not sure who is right here.

Remember with Martial "He is a signing for the next manager" according to LVG. Definitely implies it was a club driven transfer rather than the manager asking for him. Shaw was definitely a club transfer and has been a problem for both LVG and Mourinho. Herrera was clearly not wanted by LVG and he was a club transfer. Definitely not a healthy situation.

Not as weird as how a player bought by Barcelona in January, plays five league games, has a few good games in an overrated Columbia team, & is now worth seemingly about 30 million, even though Barcelona want rid of him. Even worse we seemed to be in for him.

I agree. And if we don't bring in a central defender in the next two hours then we're going to struggle to get 4th. I think Chelsea and Liverpool have improved significantly, and one of Everton, Wolves, Fulham and Spurs will challenge for a top 4 spot.

We wrapped up Fred and Dalot so easily and early. Even the last few summers we were well ahead of the deadline for signings under Jose.

I tend to think we’ve not been in for anyone perhaps because Jose spent the x amount of budget over two years. I think maybe his saying we are after 1 or 2 is perhaps a ploy to make it seem to our fans we are trying.

I genuinely think we’ve not been in for anyone since Dalot and Fred. I think Woody would have opened the check book for Bale and I think that’s been understood all summer.

The press are useless.

Smalling will be starting his 9th season with us
Jones will be starting his 8th season with us

I think the board are probably nervous on going in big for players that are either not big names or getting on in years. If a Varane or Umtiti for example were suddenly available, i personally think the funds would be there. They are just nervous about the figures quoted for the likes of Maguire or Toby. We don't have a bottomless pit like the oil clubs.

Yeah - there is a problem with that as well. Think the phrase you were looking for was "Park the bus hoofball".

Well not expecting swashbuckling fluid out of the world stuff. We have some great players who can play decent stuff despite the coaching. Let’s just hope it turns out to be decent.

That tells you everything you need to know right there.

Can we get beckham out of retirement for RW.

He only needs to stand in a Right wing position and cross it to Lukakus head every so often, it’s free and better than nothing.

Would have been fine with it if we'd come out earlier this week saying 'we are done as regards incomings' then I think most of us would have begrudgingly accepted it. So the club have either decided to string fans along, or they are genuinely so inept that they have been scrambling around at the last minute trying to arrange something. One thing is clear, there's a huge disconnect between Jose/Woodward/the board. I believe our manager hasn't been backed and Woodward is the commercial mouthpiece of the glazers who disguises himself as a football man. Jose will be absolutely livid. His comments about finishing second place today are telling.

Pretty much this. Yeah I agree. I think the only link all summer I believed was Alderweireld and that we’d like Bale but that ended early. I don’t even think we have tried for Toby my guess is we’ll go for him next year.

Nah, to me it implies that LVG knew he would only be here for 3 years (lasted 2) and that Martial would be more effective after that time, when he had developed, obviously he has stagnated somewhat.

You guys, I'm proud of how well you're coping without signings.

Chelsea still have no striker

and lol at the idea of two promoted sides competing for 4th

My eyes are so sore of staring at the forum and refreshing it that the row of f5's in the title begin to look like a row of swastikas.

Can't wait to see how many players move in other leagues for less money than what they may have been linked to a PL club.
Glad we didn't panic buy. The January window is only 4 months away.

Sack woodward from having any transfer dealings from now on. Tell him to take care of the commercial sponsorship side of it only, because he seems to be decent at that.

Im not sure why the manager takes such a back seat when it comes to signings these days. I remember some of our past top players when talking about the only reason they signed for Utd was down to a personal visit or call from SAF. Jose should prob take this approach rather than leaving it up to the board/woodward.

Its unbelievable that the glaring issues in the squad have not been addressed, and some of that deadwood (smalling/jones) have not been cleared out. & I don't think these issues will be sorted for a long time if the last few weeks is anything to go by :(
