In that case he should handle his resignation letter a day after the transfer window closes. They are going to sack him in December anyway so let the Glazers owe their mistakes for once rather then have them pin it on the manager.

It is clear it affects the players, we saw on Tuesday fans outside singing Sign Sancho when the team bus was losing, they know about it. Ole has to go to Woodward and say, I cannot operate like this.
He not only has his arms tied, he is on his knees too.
We have Rojo, Jones, Perreira, Romero, Mata who cannot get on the bench for a PL game. That is £500k a week in wages. Approx £30m in wages a year that cannot get on the bench.
We got rid of £50m Alexis wages, so if we buckled up and got rid of some players we would have cleared £80m of funds to spend on new players.
I think the club has decided that we aren't going to be fleeced anymore. You see clubs everywhere this summer getting reduced transfers but we still have Porto demanding 40mil for Telles and Dortmund demanding 120mil for Sancho. I'm happy enough that the club don't want to pay those silly fees anymore and in contrast to many others on here, I'm also happy to see us not panic and bring in alternative players who don't match the profile or quality of player we want to add to the squad. That approach is what got us the squad we have at the moment, full of overpaid mediocrity.
The issue is, that as much as I agree with this new approach - it doesn't help with the fact that we are starting a season in the Premier League in which all of our rivals have strengthened and we have maybe 6 outfield players in our entire squad who are good enough to play for the club. How do we fix this?
We can't now - it's too late. The time to fix it was before the summer and to change things now would only be to fix matters for next year. We need to start communicating that things have changed at United to fans, to agents and to other clubs. How do we expect the people we are negotiating with to take us seriously while we are still rewarding the people who made us into this mess with their positions? When those idiots like Woodward and Judge are still the other end of the phone with them today? The club needs to show that the instigators of the old failed model have been rooted out and that we are serious about this new direction.
Panicking now and throwing a load of cash at subpar alternatives is not the answer, it would just kick the can down the road for another year. If the club is serious about reforming, we need to hold the course now and be prepared to really struggle this season if Dortmund and Porto don't blink before the end of the window. Even if they do, and we start the season with a couple more of the reinforcements we badly need, there need to be changes made once it has closed. This can't be our summer every year.

The issue will be that with the team we have right now we won't get top 4, we are an injury away from having to field Mata, Lingard or James as a RW. I don't know what the answer is right now. If we drop out of the top 4 it affects our finances so much we may never get back from it. You are right something has to change, handing Lingard another contract cannot be the answer. The trouble is I don't think we have a way to affect the prices we pay for players. Clubs will always know we are wealthy, if we don't buy players we don't become successful unless we fully develop our own players.
i agree esp with the first paragraph. for example Porto asking 40mil for Telles a potential backup player who has only one year left on his contract can be too much. I heard
that Utd are trying to lower the price to 25 mil or so which is sensible - a player who they can get for low fee in January or free in a year. Sancho price to me is ridiculous. I wont
personally think we loose much if we skip him. The central defender is also an issue. How can you convince the board to add another central defender when you have 8 defenders in the bank.

Other wealthy clubs don't get ripped off to the same extent we do. We need a complete reform of the team within the club that are responsible for conducting transfers and examples need to be made of the underperformers who got us into this mess. That is the only way to change the perception of us in the minds of other clubs and agents.
I agree with you that without improvements to the squad, we are in huge trouble. The issue is that those improvements have to be the right players and not just panic buys or we will just keep perpetuating the cycle.

He's a good player... perhaps on a better team he'd be able to create or score more.
Whether it's Zaha or someone else, we are in serious need of depth AND competition for both winger positions. Even striker.
Martial can play at LW & ST, which is good. Bringing in another ST can give us the opportunity to rotate martial in both positions when needed. It would be nice to get Sancho who can rotate among the positions as well.
Either way, we should really be in for an attacker this window.
But mate this is out of the club's control, if they know this only they can change it by hiring better scouts and professionals who know how to actually scout talented youngsters rather than players that are already first team players at major european clubs,
I have absolutely no issue with porto demanding 40m for a player with 10 months left on his contract or 120m for one of there best players and not offering a discount just because we are in a pandemic,
The issue is, the. board clearly know this because i refuse to believe they are that thick and somehow expect these clubs to fold last minute and knock 20-30m off the price,
There are players out there playing in god knows what league who are as suited or even better than Sancho for us on that right wing but for some reason we fail to ever find these talents, Dortmund clearly seen the potential in Sancho more than any other club and it worked out amazingly, they didn't just get lucky, same with Dembele, they have a structure in place with intelligent football people who head this operation and like Gary Neville said, for a club the size of Manchester United, we should be striving for the best in class, but we'd rather be nostalgia merchants as per and hire Rio Ferdinand or Evra (both we refused the director of football role due to inexperience) than hire someone qualified for the position, that is absolutely terrifying in my opinion.
Looks like Tottenham will be signing Skriniar to, on top of the other signings made, and Levy's usually the stingiest guy there is, yet the Glazers... ugh, truly tragic this window.
This puts things into perspective. Spurs are paying for their stadium still, they spent £133m last summer, £85m so far this summer.
We got CL football, commercial deals and a ton load more money than Spurs and they are acting like a team with ambition.

The businessmen and accountants on our board have completely misread the market and the financial impact of Covid on other clubs.
Our board who should be incredibly competent with assessing market trends purely from a financial perspective are looking mighty stupid. We know they’re incompetent when it comes to footballing matters but I find their complete miss on understanding the financial impact of Covid was on the transfer market a bit more disturbing and shocking. Cant they sign players and just agree to pay the first instalment on 1st Oct ? Which selling club would say no to that? They know the deal is done and money is coming. they can plan accordingly. We get the player.
I used to find it fascinating how Woodward would come out with a bullish attitude at the start of the transfer window only to end it up with a whimper. Surely someone who doesn't want to get fleeced would refrain from going out on the media saying that we can do stuff other can only dream off doing. Then one find day he did answer that question. That was during an AGM were he used the clicks generated during the silly season to justify and prove how much interest there is around Manchester United. Basically he is banking upon transfer rumours.
Another fascinating thing about United is why we keep on giving contract extensions to players that are not good enough. That was explained by Woodward once again who talked about the difficulty United had in signing more then 3 players per transfer window, which forces us to give contracts to players whom we know exactly that are not good enough. He also describe players as assets whose value need to be protected. Unfortunately that's not how football works. Someone like Jones is not an asset as no one is willing to buy him up. He's just a blackhole who sucks money out of the club.
Which kind of explains how short sighted and cynical these people are and why the club is heading towards a cliff edge. Ultimately football is in the entertainment business and fans who are repeatedly being humiliated by an incompetent board will simply lose interest and grow cold. They'll certainly won't be encouraging their kids to take their poison which means the fan base will ultimately shrink, which in turn, will hurt the club finances.
I won't be surprised if the club now add a third rated signing on the cheap followed by Lingard signing a new contract by the club's yearly commitment of bringing in a DOF. Then by December Ole would be on the way out. It shouldn't have been like that. United could have easily engaged itself in an effective and efficient transfer market with Sanchez being shown the door, Jones sent on loan and Romero, Lingard, Rojo + Smalling sold on the cheap. That + another 60m could have financed signings like that of Jamal Lewis (16m), Cristian Romero (loan of 2m with a right to buy loan fee of 16m), VDB (39m), Cengis Under (3m loan with a 26m obligation to buy) and maybe have some room for a striker (Milik?). It would be a humble transfer window that would have strengthened us considerably. But no, that wouldn't play out for the Glazer's narrative.

That's silly. These players are on ridiculous salaries. It was always going to be difficult to get rid of them let alone make money out of them especially the money we want for then (ex the 18m asked for smalling)

I mean you’re not wrong, but it continues to baffle me at the willingness of the board to allow us to stagnate. 20 years ago we were literally light years away from any club domestically.

On one hand I think its great that the club is trying to change the image in the transfer market. Too often have we been fleeced. Too often have we given bad contracts to players.
The Jadon Sancho deal though, is the one deal we should/could break the bank for. It really signals intent and we are signing one of the best young players in the world. An englishman to boot.
I'm happy with the haggling over Telles. I'm happy we walked away from reguillion and probably countless other deals that were just silly. Also, the price for DVB was fantastic. Considering he was quoted much higher when he was on the verge of making a move to real madrid.
I think if we don't manage to make anymore signings then OGS will just have to work magic again and ensure the players are motivated and ready to perform. We don't have a bad group. They are more than capable of attaining a top four position. What could derail us is injuries, although with DVB in the squad now that lessens the burden in midfield which we are looking very strong in depth. Its up front that worries me. At the back, with Bailly, Tuanzebe returning from injury I feel we will do much better.
