Wot, no transfers? It's all happening now!

When did Liverpool become Man United?

Van Dijk, Fabinho, Alisson, Mane and Thiago. They're Man United type players that could've probably played for us in any era.

They're similar calibre to Vidic, Carrick, VDS, Rashford and Scholes.

Meanwhile Mata, Fellaini, Blind, Lindelof, Bailly, James are the equivalent of Garcia, Biscan, Bjorneby, Hyppia, Traore and Pongolle.

When the feck did we allow Liverpool to buy top drawer players whilst we dipped in the bins?

fecking seismic shift over the past 5 years.

this is true. Seriously. Top 4? By the end of the season this defeat was the kind of form we were showing. It’s my own fault, I backed utd in fantasy ftbl and in the bookies against my better judgement and it cost me a lot I’m half wishing things fall to shite so we can actually start from the bottom again and make some meaningful changes. Starting with ED.. Bruno (who we barely eventually signed!) covered over way too many cracks since Jan

Maybe it’s just karma for all the success under Fergie. This isn’t on Ole. Our team dragged itself to 3rd through teamwork and luck. How do the glazers not see that? We could just as easily finish 8th this season. Scumbags! when Other teams who take in 1/4 of what we do but still spend money and take a few risks to crack on.... the fact that we did feck all just goes to show we desperately need someone with a footballing background to take us forward.

So if they ask for £200m should we just pay that as well?
Comparing to Mbappe (180m), Dembele (145m), Joao Felix (126m) from recent years, what Dortmund is asking for Sancho (120m) isn’t as outrageous as you thought. The only problem is, we are in COVID-19 market and theres no cash to pay such fee, and Dortmund isn’t in rush to sell him cheap either.

Yep. And we knew that all along. Could have gone for Sancho, Upamecano and Telles and we would have been sorted. For whatever reason we decided to get a midfielder and nobody else though.

What is the truth about Upamecano because I thought we could have signed him before new deal, however someone said it was never on the cards as we weren't back playing by then

Everything just cost about 10-20m more.

Ed is going to get squeezed after the hysteria from a performance like that.

Yeah the only prices which haven't gone up is probably Telles & Sancho but in regards to a CB those prices will go through the roof

Tough to watch that tonight, could have been so much worse too. Really seemed too slow an lethargic. 100% CB needed, Shaw was poor but no worse than the rest. Brunos worst performance so I'd go in order of priority CB, RW, LB

I would absolutely agree with that order of priority as well, however that doesn't account for needing DM,maybe even a different option ST too. Like one of the posters above said there is absolutely no leadership and power in midfield.

Anyone stop to consider that not splashing cash right now is a brilliant idea? The developed world is about to get into a catastrophic flu season with COVID fully seeded everywhere. Many lockdowns will be had in the next 6 months completely decimating the economy. Safe to say financials of sporting clubs will also be decimated for the next few years as big endorsement deals come to a grinding halt.

the positive is that might take the massive inflation in transfer prices once we’re out of the multi year mess. Clubs just won’t be able to pay the same amounts flying around here

It affects all clubs in the world, but many of them still make transfers and we do (almost) nothing. Ed tells the world "We can do things in the transfer market that other clubs can only dream of. Watch this space" while other clubs are actually spending wise. COVID is not an excuse for another ruined summer.

I hope you watched the match against Palace today. Unfortunately, we will see a lot more of these types of games throughout the season. We simply don't have players who will take the game by the scruff and will the team to a win. We needed players like Bale and Thiago, no matter how well we are equipped at that position. We simply don't have those types of players. Bruno can only do so much by himself before he overdoes everything.

I hope you realise it’s one game. Off the back of a very difficult pre season.

I argued that Bale could be a good signing, and 95% of the forum was against it. Up in arms. Comments like, “I will literally give up” I’d we sign him. Read the Bale thread - it’s absolute hate for him, and everyone associated with the club if we went for him.

We weren’t even in for Thiago.

I hope all the posters wanting us to lose yesterday (yes there were lots), and now happy.

I’m going to delve into the forum this morning and see how putrid it is.

I think the thing which pisses me off the most is, the Academy did half, or two thirds of the most expensive and difficult job for the board: we produced two absolute one-off attacking talents in the space of 4 years. Talents who, in their prime, and arguably right now, will be costing £70m+. And this is how they show their gratitude.

The least they could have done was follow through with the Sancho purchase in good time. The cost of assembling a similar quality forward line would be triple what it would cost to get Sancho in now, FFS.

Disjointed rabble yesterday.
Got what we deserved.
So suspect defensively, TFM is very poor and Lindelof was shambolic, he is just too nice and lightweight to be a centre half in premier league i remember him being bullied by numerous forwards in past few years and his positional sense and strength is lacking, play Bailly or Menghi.

Dan James was lost, like a fish out.of water, lacking quality in every department his end product is worse than Bebe, Obertan and me in fact.

Mctominay tried hard but was exposed by laziness of others and 2 poor full back performances. We look a better team with Fred in there as he moves the ball quicker.

Finally Rashford, not sure whats happened to him. He has this swagger, he no longer runs with the ball to pur defenders on back foot, he drops deep and thinks he is a quarterback with brilliant technique and long range hopeful shots. He has regressed so much since covid, needs.to focus on his football, needs dropping and a reality check.

Ole looked.angry at the end, i question the coaching that is happening at our club..we have zero style of play, pass pass and hopefully a gap appears. No one can cross, and when we do put balls in the box no one is innthere gambling. The players seem to do what they want and i dont think Rashy Antony and crew are ever given a right verbal roasting and dropped when they dont perform, its all too nice.

Exactly. We always run a big mouth but are just incompetent. Another window wasted, in the end, we just cant spend money as we say

Yesterday showed we need a top class centre back. Lindelof is not bad but he's not going to take us to the next level.

I'm getting a bit bored of hearing the covid excuse being used for us not signing anyone else apart van de Beek. Other clubs have managed to, I don't see why it would stop us.

I think the big issue is that we can't sell any of the players we have. Man Utd have a huge, huge squad of players who are paid too much and nobody wants. If we could sell 5 players and take in £50m+ that would give some money to play with. The reality is the long over priced contracts to the likes of Lingard, Jones etc means we can't do any more business.

Exactly what I’m arguing here. United realize what the next 6 months of messy covid flu will do for lockdowns and are saving the cash. The rest have jumped the gun and don’t have the same foresight

Where is the ambition! We finished 3rd and there was happiness on July 25 or 26 (whenever we beat Leicester) but since then all we have heard is how we have agreed fee with sancho. This has been a shambolic window and nothing changes that. People were right to question the board but ofcourse glazers apologists were defending them with idiotic arguments. We are already playing catch up this season and the morale seems low even before the season started. And this board has the audacity of blaming fans on social media. I think we all have to reset our expectations under them.

There is an argument for that I'd say. If we knew for certain that there would be no fans in the stadiums all season then teams wouldn't be spending like they are and many could be in a financial mess by next summer. It seems like everyone is gambling on us returning back to normal in the next couple of months when it doesn't feel likely.

We probably shouldn’t have recently renewed everyone on 5 year contracts for 100k a week.

Covid might have a huge say. If winter is going to be as tough as some are suggesting there's no guarantee this season even gets completed anyway.

Probably be a blessing for us if that happened given how unprepared we are and how we came 3rd last season.

We need to build a team from the defence - that's where great teams start.

After last night's game I'm opposing the idea of signing Sancho. I rather have a CB and LB for the price of Sancho.

Yeah, sure, we struggle to score but at the very least we can turn into a boring 1-0 team until attack is sorted. Rashford also needs a replacement plan.

Liverpool have strengthened an already very strong team with one of the best midfielders around, addressing the one weakness in their team, plus adding another option up front

Chelsea have transformed their attack with world class talents such as Ziyech, Werner and Havertz as well as got a good attacking full back

Everton have transformed their midfield with one world class creative talent in James plus two solid midfielders in Allan and Doucoure

Spurs have brought in a world class attacker

We are in danger of being left behind

We won't finish in top 4. Last season was a shower of shit for half the season. This one will be the same only difference the other clubs as you have mentioned (even add Arsenal) will be better. Like I have mentioned on here before I would snap the hand off anyone who offered us 4th place right now.

We are poorly owned and run football club (not business) without a top class manager and a squad overloaded with overpaid, mediocre players. Anyone at the club thinking this team will get in top 4 without more major signings is having delusions of grandeur in my opinion.

Ed Woodward in 2014: "We can do things in the transfer market other clubs can only dream of. Watch this space."

feck off.

Leicester signing a better right-wing option than we have.
Didn't need to spend over 100 million either.

I just dont get it with us. There are options out there at good prices but we seem hellbent on making 'statement' signings continually with the likes of Pogba,Maguire and possibly Sancho.

Anyone buy the match programme for yesterday? Mirror reporting:

  • Ed Woodward's Manchester United programme notes suggest no more big-money signings will be coming through the door this month

The squad isnt as bad as people are making out here. Clearly not good enough for a title challenge and maybe not deep enough to get top 4 without 1-2 extra options. If we can only get deals done at this rate then its all just going to take a bit longer

"not as bad as making out... " but "not deep enough to get top four"? how much worse would you like it?

some people posted quotes. said something like 'we arent immune from covid knock ons'. mirror is click baiting if thats the headline

are you new here? we usually don't make top 4, go look at the finishes the last several years.

whether we get top 4 just depends on if someone else improves out of arsenal, spurs, the rest. We don't look like we have improved enough to get much more than 66pts, the players will be totally run down and the small squad will hurt us more this season than last. But versus the greatest ever 2 sides in premiership history, its possible that we are in a fight for top 4 with chelsea / spurs / arsenal / whoever else comes good and that we also aren't that bad, at least at first 11 level

'how people are making out' is that we need to overhaul the entire squad but will never shift them because the daily star says they are all on 250k a week. We had the most clean sheets in europes big leagues last season, with an out of form goalkeeper, but on the back of yesterday we need to replace our whole defence according to these geniuses. it isn't that bad, just children getting upset over one result as always and bringing extreme negativity to the club

We need a new left back, right winger and central defender. Right wing is obvious, but as hard as Shaw trys he'll never be an effective attacking option. Lindelof is just crap and has been for most of the time we signed him.

Will be extremely surprised if the Glazer's open the cheque book for even one of those.

Every one forgetting the importance of Matic back up or even the starter in DM role, it is obvious we can see the difference with and without MATIC.
If we had him yesterday, we could have done lot better so I still think a proper DM is top priority.

What do people think about Shaw saying we need more players to compete? That’s clearly what the squad think. It seems they’ve gone away thinking Sancho and a few others were on their way and come back with just Donny. I think it’s mad myself.

I agree. I think Ole has told them there will be other players coming in and the excitement Pogba was showing makes me think Sancho was the big one. It must have really deflated them.

Think we missed Matic badly as he actually knows how to be a DM.

Zaha anyone? Rashford needs serious competition
It would be a mistake..
Zaha is just trying so hard to convince that manchester did a mistake by letting him go, the problem that h'es trying to do that only against us, rest of the season he's just the average player that we got rid of ( 38 games, 4 goals and 3 assists ), even Daniel James did better despite being on bench half of the season.
If he's playing most of his matches the way he does against us, he'd be intended by some top clubs ..
