I am trying to not be a transfer muppet throwing a fit because of no new shiny signings, but its hard to be optimistic when teams around us are strengthening and we're sitting on our thumbs.
Fingers crossed that Luke Shaw, Rashford, and Martial can all stay miraculously healthy for the entire season, playing close to every game for us, and ideally with a slight improvement in form.....
Yeah this is very hard to take at the moment. I would normally class myself as one of the most optimistic utd fans, I even was happy to give sancho another chance, but this is grim right now.
Its not really that hard to be optimistic. A new season starts Saturday, and we're back in the Champions League.
Waiting till the end of the window before making judgments, but at the moment it looks quite grim. Even Levy has opened the purse strings for Spurs this summer, and while any number of their signings may flop, they're liable to get one good year out of Jose before he lights the place on fire. It feels to me like the Glazers a) haven't adjusted to modern transfer market pricing, after spending peanuts under Fergie and still winning, and b) took for granted how much Fergie buoyed our performances and papered over the lack of spending, turning our squad into perennial contenders.

We will finish top 4. Really can't see Spurs or Arsenal finishing ahead of us.
The problem is, again, we failed to make the jump forward to be closer to a title challenger. We are approaching next season knowing we will be top 4 at best and we won't be good enough to challenge for CL anyway, so no competition to look forward to bar the 2 domestic cups. Pretty depressing approaching a new season that should be full of hopes.
We will gain more points than last season, but Chelsea and City also will, which means another 3rd or 4th position at best.
Its not about that. I was happy to see Van De Beek, still am, but he alone is not enough.
Signings are important because we need players. Our bench is a shambles and our first XI could also do with some improvement. It was critical we addressed that. We haven't.
Being optimistic over one game is just papering over cracks that have been prevalent for years and the lack of any kind of ambition to reach a point where we challenge is depressing in itself.
And no. I can't be optimistic about the CL because that should be a given at this club, and being optimistic about it would mean the standards have fallen in what this club should be achieving.
I respect your positive viewpoint, but I have my own to stick to.

I've never been comfortable with the 'I dont think we will win the league so I'm not looking forward to the football' type of mindset. It has a touch of entitlement and glory hunting to it.

It has gone very quiet. M.EN. blog there isn't much, more about players going elsewhere and the usual player in car on way to training.
Still think we need 1 more addition. We are set with goalkeepers, defenders should be enough, right back too. Left back questionable, but not the biggest problem. The real issue is the right wing and no depth whatsoever on left and right wing. Ideally we'll sign Sancho but it's looking unlikely. Every target this summer which was reported by the newspapers has gone quiet. Worrying.
Outgoing transfers is a bigger mess. Pereira, Lingard, Jones, Rojo... so many players we should offload asap. At least Sanchez is gone.

what a load of twaddle. the asking price is the asking price. Dortmund could not have made this more clear. Either we want him or we don't. if we do, we have to pay the asking price. As I said, that's the economics and the facts. You can only negotiate if both parties want to: Dortmund have said they don't. Woodward refuses to hear what is being said. That's not good business because it won't get the deal done
Last year net outflow in transfers was around 80 million. Some say Bruno s fee was deducted from this summer s budget. If we add Bruno and Vdb fees we re at around 90 million with no sales.
So Ed and/or Glazers may have decided that if we don't manage to make some sales (which is proving difficult) we won't sign anyone else ,except perhaps someone on the cheap.

If Sancho happens then I predict it will be a deadline day scramble where we get deals for one or two others lined up to sell and then it falls through due to incompetance. Feels like we cant look much worse in the transfer window right now but there is always a way.
It's really weird how their seems to be nothing written about us in like a week regarding transfers in. Even the hacks have given up making rumours it seems.

“Just pay the asking price” is easily said when it’s not your money. Dortmund have been quite unreasonable. They probably didn’t want to sell up this season.To be fair, why would they want to sell? One of their better players and has 3 years (?) left on his contract. He’s their asset. If they don’t want to sell below their asking price that’s their prerogative. Unless sancho forces it, Dortmund are very much the ones in the position of power here. Especially if some sense of normality returns soon in which class there could be a bidding war next summer and sancho goes for even more (which I think is what they’re gambling on).

Are you really that naive (to put it in nicer terms)? Who would ever publicly say they are willing to negotiate? What would they gain from that? Think a bit before going to those conclusions...
Signed a player in a position with didn’t need and not strengthened our biggest weakness. That whilst Liverpool and Spur both sign players that would have been better for our first 11.

The only thing going through their minds is how to get as much money as possible for him, so yeah they’ll be banking on next season being a more lucrative time to sell.
We should have moved onto alternative targets a month ago.
We just barely scraped by Leicester to 4th. All teams behind us (Arsenal Spurs Leicester Wolves Everton) have strengthened significantly while we've added ONE depth player.
4th is a hugely uncertain thing. We could finish 3rd, we could finish 7th.
We NEED two good players, one defensive, one offensive.
With out full backs, central defenders and literally zero back up wingers, we're not finishing 4th if we have even one major injury to our front 4.
Some dicks on here excusing the owners saying Bruno came out of this summers budget. He should’ve come out of the previous summers budget but owners were too tight
I dont agree with this. Our main vulnerability was an injury to Bruno. VDB covers this. If the worst should happen and one of our forwards gets injured, again VDB provides the flexibility to change formation.
I hope and I don't believe that this will be our last signing, but it is a clever signing. It gives us a lot of options
