World Snooker Championship 2010

Credit to Selby for that. He wore him down in the end.

But as is the case so often, Ronnie seemed to let the mental side of his game drop. He was going for shots that he shouldn't have, and he looked like a bloke who wasn't enjoying that at all.

When you have someone with Ronnie's temperament, you're going to get tournaments like this. His demeanour looked all wrong from the first day, and when he's like that, he seems to struggle to turn it around, though he tends to find form for a sessions or so even still.

I thought he looked up for it against Williams but as you say he basically beats himself these days. It's a weird one, his attitude, he really needs to take a step back and decide if he wants to play the game anymore as it isn't good for the game in my opinion.

Selby just cracked him mentally.. but Ronnie pressed self destruct, he had plenty of chances to put it away.

Can't believe O' Sullivan. Has all the talent in the fecking world when it comes to snooker and he can't even sort his head out.

Shame, as somebody else said he could have broke every record going.

I actually find it refreshingly nice with Selby and Robertson, Hopefully they go through to the final. Dott being in a third final would be too much for the game!

Yeh. Couldn't agree more. In fact it was probably me that said that?! I can't remember

I've lost interest in it now... all the interesting players/ characters are out of it. The thing is about snooker is great to watch people with personalities playing... But the likes of Selby are just so boring.

Such a pity that Ronnie's gone really takes any excitement out of the tournament now, he looked completely disinterested at times

Out of the players remaining I'd like to see Selby win

He really is weird. I remember 2 or 3 years ago, when almost every time after a game he threatened to quit in the post match interviews. I think at one times he even suggested that he would quit to go and join the pool league in America. I'm not sure if he is just crazy or he does it for the attention. But it's a shame, he is so much better then that.

At times he just takes the piss out of his opponents by playing left handed and last year he won with a new cue, it looks like he needs a proper challenge to get him focused on his game again

Class clinching of the last frame there by Selby... 142, if anybody missed it. I hope we can look forward to more decisive and accurate play like that tomorrow.

That Selby v Dott semi final was superb. Thought Selby was going to pull it back to 15-16 before he screwed up on that black.

Great game of snooker.

Dott is playing great stuff, fair play to him I never really gave him a chance this year, Robertson will be very hard to beat in the final though

Apparently Robertson's highest break in the last 7 or 8 frames was 31. He'll need to score more heavily than that if he's to break Dott down. Dott's been here before, and Robertson looked nervy this afternoon.

Should be a good final.

It's been an interesting final so far though I think a Selby v Robertson match would be more exciting in terms of potting and big breaks. It's just a pity that this business with Higgins is overshadowing the main event.

This is a really dogged game. There's no really spectacular breaks, and it's all a bit cagey/ I'd make Dott slightly favourite now, as he's extremely strong mentally.

That was such a tense frame  Often enjoy those ones a lot more than the ones which are over in 10 minutes or so. Great tactical game.

Will only get more tense as we get closer to the finish. 11pm already, could be on for a late night.

It's the relative lack of frames like that these days which has turned me off snooker some what. Hard to criticise, but players have just become too good for the most part!

Nothing like the tension of the World Championship final to get it all interesting again

A really important frame for Dott to win

He really needed to win it regardless of how he won it, but to win it in such a manner will be even sweeter

It's very hard not to like Dott. He may not be the most naturally talented player in the game, but he's got more heart than most. I'd love for him to come back and win it after everything he's gone through in the last few years.

Jesus, this is going to take forever. I hope one of them throws a few frames and gets it done with. Has to be the dullest final ever.

Tension is good; sustained crapness is not

This looks set to smash the records for a late finish. Which I think a Dott final already holds, against Ebdon when he won it

I think it was Selby v Higgins final which is the record, think the alltime record is safe though, didn't a game go til 3 in the morning

feck sakes...looks like Dott's gonna go 17-13 down.

fk me tumescent stuff here

Dont really wan criticize Dott but but for all the commentators re-iiterating how 'aggressive' and 'going for it' he 's become I've never seen him in a decent match

His other world final against Ebdon was even worse than this - if that's possible

Had Roberston played half of his normal game rather than tippety tap with Dott this would have finished four hours ago

fsakes

That was the worst final I have ever seen. Each frame seemed to be won by whoever was least crap. It was terrible stuff. I expected better.

Final was shite beyond belief. What annoys me is the conception that Snooker has never been better and that the standard of play has reached new levels of excellence.. bullshit. Likes of Hendry, Higgins, Williams, Doherty and Ronnie at their peak took snooker to a new level.. not the current batch.

That said Selby, Robertson are two of the younger generation I admire.. but do they have the mental strength to produce top quality like the guys I've mentioned? Maybe but I think they'd have struggled in the late nineties.

^True unadulterated class

Final wasn't great by any means, but I was pleased for Robertson who I've always been a fan of and wanted to win the match. It did look like both players were struggling under the pressure, somewhat understandable for Robertson but I was surprised how Dott kept fumbling too. A few special pots by Robertson kept him on top and it was a deserved victory in the end.

Well done Robertson.

Really mate - that was'nt half as bad as Ebdon v Dott

Really did nothing for the game at all

In the last week I've had a look at a couple of hours of stuff from way back and although you had negative merchants like Thorburn, Charlton etc from what I can see if those older apparently 'worse' players were forced into going for shots they could match anybody of today's game - their mindset was more negative from the beginning but once in they could pot shit loads just as well as any of the lot today

I'm not saying it was better back then but they are certainly not as much better today as the media myth keeps banging on about

Yea I thought this year's one was worse. At least when Ebdon played Dott, there was actually a decent break or two. Seeing Dott and Robertson scoring 40 and then missing an easy one, whilst the other one comes in and scores 40 and misses an easy one, and then they struggle for the next half and hour to decide the winner of the frame over and over again bored the crap out of me! There was nothing else on to watch though!!
