Starts this Saturday (17th) till the 3rd May. Looking forward to it, don't really follow snooker outside of this. How's O' Sullivan been performing this year?

Not alot of interest in Snooker it would seem. Barry Hearn should get it back to the good old days of a six-pack under the chair & players maybe would be more ambitious in their shot selection. Far too much emphasis in the game is based on safety, of course the standard has improved immensely, if you let someone in they'll have a good chance of a double-figure break, so thats understandable. Also there's only about 6 ranking tournaments now, so players are under pressure to make a living with limited opportunities to earn prize-mony.

That gameplan is too similar to chess tho. Its exactly the same ideal & the incentive for Snooker is not only speed the game up, but to give some sort of incentive to positive play. How that would work i dont know. Snooker is a very traditional game & it should always maintain that, but the game is losing interest, so if the WPSBA want the game to have any sort of life, they'll have to change the fundamentals of the game in some form or another!

I used to love watching my snooker, but have barely watched any the last few years. I think a combination of the dire way the snooker calender was run, couple with the increased standard which actually served to make the game duller - you need those scrappy see-saw frames, and not just an endless stream of huge breaks

Hearn seems to know what he's doing with these things though, so it's good news he's now in charge. I love my weekly darts fix, he's done wonders with the PDC

Looking at the draw, my favourite player Ebdon is up against a couple of players I can't really stand in Dott and potentially fatty Lee if he beats Maguire which is unlikely

I enjoy watching snooker, will be watching a lot of this if not all I reckon.

They need to start touching each other up, get the gay vote.

Sorry, already been done - but UFC does seem popular so it's obviously a winning strategy.

Ali Carter is good value at around 38 on Betfair. He seems to have a nice draw.

Oop! Just saw this...

Just checked which one's on, and instantly get snooker commentary at its finest. Holt's fiddling with his cufflink and the commentator says, "he's not a buttoned-up character... but he's got a buttoned-up shirt."

Deary me.

Good comeback from Hendry, played really well in those final three frames, I can only summise he wasn't all that good in the previous ones though

Love snooker. Plan to populate this thread in due course.

Likewise mungy.

It's a wierd one for me when it comes to following snooker. I don't really like any of the 'huge' players in the game and more often than not end up supporting the underdog. Really like Mark Selby and Mark Allen though.

Zhang was very unlucky against Hendry but the lad's 18 and will learn from the few silly mistakes he made.

Mark Williams is doing alright. He seems to be working the tactic of not quite being as god awful as your opponent.

Hope he picks this up and has a good tournament.

I can't watch this, will make me crave a big game or two, which I cannae afford, time-wise.

I'm really fortunate as we have a snooker club at the end of the road which costs £1 an hour, beer at £1.80 a pint and all tables are in good condition. I also have 3 or 4 mates who really enjoy a couple of frames as well. Might have to get that arranged for tonight actually...

Very envious of you man, there's feck all snooker halls like that in Dublin - cheap facilities & sell beer cheap aswell, or sell beer at all. The main American Pool hall is the Camden Palace which costs €12 per hr & pints at almost €5.00 - thats a far cry from what you're paying man, so really appreciate it!

That means Mark Allen vs Mark Davis....better than him getting Ryan Day.

I like Marky Allen....agressive potter and a bit humourous. Maybe im biased because i went to school with him and see him every other week in our local

He put up on facebook last night that he got a 147 in a session with John Higgins and then sent a few of the lads a text saying to bet on him for biggest break or a 147.

Ragin i couldnt get to the bookies in time today for that 146!

Saw a bit, looked liked the 4-2 frame was a big one, as Higgins broke down with the frame at his mercy when trying to force a pot at pace down a cushion...and then Higgins made a mistake in the safety exchange and Davis clearly cleared up

Steve Davies 6-2 John Higgins

Not seen it, only heard the score, but... wow! Who'd have thought! Rolling back the years

Just seen the highlights, Higgins made some daft errors but I suppose thats what pressure does to you. Saying that, Davis took full advantage and potted a superb yellow to win the 8th frame. Also made a century break to win the 7th.

Hope he goes on to win it actually, always comes across as a decent bloke and it'd be good for snooker if he did. Either him or Ronnie I'd like to see lift it

I can almost feel the tension!

Is it on BBC? Might try and get it on my phone and just hope none of the bosses see :D

Watched about 10 minutes on tvcatchup on my phone but my battery was going down faster than a drunken iSparky so I had to turn it off :(

Snooker needs a story like this to generate a bit of interest. I feel suspicious as Davis has done nothing of note for years.
I remember the days when Snooker was really popular and he was almost unbeatable so the sentimental part of me wants him to have a good run in the tournament.

Important part of the match now, Higgins needs to win this session, if Davis goes anything better than 10-6 then higgins will have a huge task on his hands.

Be great to see davis have a run this year though.

That misshit on the pink

Got to take your hat off to Davis as he is not ahead by default. He's played some superb snooker in this match. It looks like the reigning champion, provisional World Number 1 and hot favourite to win at The Crucible quickly needs to find another gear or he's going to go out here.

Although he won't, wouldn't it be a fantastic fairytale if the nugget could actually win the thing.

Important that Davis got that frame for 9-7, at 8-8 you'd think he'd perhaps blown it, but at 9-7 he's still got a great shot

Higgins needs to sort it out quickly, as this so far below his best

And Davis wins it 13-11. What a performance. Thought when Higgins pegged him back to 11-11, that would be it, but credit to Davis for pulling through.
