World Cup Betting Thread

There's a special on BetVictor to bet on Xavi's pass completion rate (record by Opta) - over 82.5% @ 1.7. He hasn't dropped below 90% all tournament. Against Italy in the groups he got 90%, against Portugal in the last game he got 97%...too good to be true, surely?

In a similar vein to this one, unibet are offering 1.85 for Mascherano to have over 85.5% passing. Against Bosnia he had 97%, Iran he had 92% and Nigeria he had 87%. Not as clear-as-day obvious as the Xavi one, but it looks a solid bet all the same.

Argentina have looked shaky at the back so I can see the Swiss scoring and the USA are tough to beat, however, I still think Belgium will qualify - I'm just not sure if they can manage it in normal time. My current plan is:

Argentina & BTTS @ 23/10
Belgium to Qualify @ 4/9

£10 returns close to £50.

Currently on 95% at half-time and coasting through the game with sideways passes if anyone got on it

Amazing. Well done. The Germany and Argentina games going to extra time must have cost punters quite a few quid. Unless people have been betting on teams to qualify and not on the matches.

I know...the thing is it's nothing to do with chasing losses either, because from unibet alone it was a £350 profit - I just couldn't turn down a no-brainer. I had £33 left over from under 30.5 fouls in the France game and was browsing through when I saw that, and decided £33 just wasn't enough

More importantly I found the first round of knockout games a little bit dull without the betting...

I've got a tenner on draw draw for tonight's 2 games, £143 return! 1 down 1 to go

I put £100 on Argentina to win the tournament during the Netherlands-Mexico game, when it looked like their route to the final would be Switzerland, USA/Belgium, Mexico/Costa Rica. Plan was to then cash out 'when' they got to the final...

Question is - should I cash out if it looks like this is going to pens? Still hopeful for a late Argie winner, can't decide if it'd be worth it to risk them winning a shootout or just take the £30 loss.

Ooft that's a hard call, I'd give it a few minutes to see how Argentina look in this final half then make a decision.. I know what I'd do but I don't wanna affect your decision because I'd feel bad if it went the other way ha!

Well.....very rarely do the underdogs win the shootout in international tournaments. Brazil/Costa Rica both faves, Spain had a few shootouts in their run, Germany usually win, England usually lose them etc etc. Couple in 2002 though, so were due an underdog shootout win....take it how you want.

I cashed out my Messi top scorer bet as I should be able to rebet on him unless he scores here and get the same returns without losing a penny, just the £5 free bets won't exist anymore. And bet the loose leftovers on Swiss to win on shootout after FT at 9/2 - £3.36. As Brwned said, I wouldn't be able to get though this ET without something on it in bets.

Put 30 on Switzerland to win on pens now and you'll get 75 back. A smaller loss and your big bet is in play still.

Have a tough decision to make now. Went really big on Argentina before the tournament but I don't trust them any more.

Not sure how much of it to lay off, odds are lower than I got though so won't be like I'll lose money.

I suggest we all lump on 0-0 to at least guarantee us some goals in the next match.

I have no idea what to back now so I'm steering well clear of this round of matches. Interestingly the only reason I'm up during this world cup is from small stakes at huge odds. I've really struggled picking what most would call bankers. Germany and Argentina have both lost everyone a fair bit of money no doubt.

Go bet under 2.5 goals for every match. Under 2.5 goals for USA vs Belgium looks like a banker.

This game is going to be a goal-fest just to mix everything up again, crazy World Cup. I don't think anything will surprise me in this game so it's a tough one to bet on. Group Winners are all through thus far, so you'd fancy Belgium, but there could be one last surprise with the last Group Winner not making it as well ._.

Hope you're right as i expect very few in this one

If there is one thing I've learnt during this World Cup, it's always to go for the safest bet whenever you bet big on an accumulator. I placed these 2 bets on an accumulator before the start of the World Cup:

Could have won £16,626 + with a £3600 bet. All Italy need was just a draw.
Really gutted that Italy didn't qualify or else my winnings would have almost tripled.

Decided to try my luck again on an accumulator and Germany screwed up my parlay!

Was thinking whether to put Germany to qualify or win in normal time and decided to go for the win in normal time and what a mistake it turned out to be. Could have won £22k+ and when the score was still 0-0 in the 88th min, I decided to cash out. Also had the option to cash out before the start of the Germany vs Algeria match which would have won me £12k+ but who would have thought that Germany can't beat Algeria in normal time.

I'm going to try the same accumulator again in the quarter-finals although it's definitely going to be a little more risky this time round.

Brazil, Germany, Holland, Argentina to qualify to the semi-final. Should get much better odds this time but obviously the risk is higher.

Gone for 0-0 at halftime . I expect couple of goals by HT now..

Yeah, I'd back 1-1 in reality if I was forced to go for a score after 90 minutes.

However, it'd just be typical of this World Cup for two low-scoring teams to throw a spanner in the works.

I bet that Brazil penny shoot out nearly gave you a heart attack!

That's some serious fecking money you gamble.

I thought I bet £10 on Draw and Under 2.5 Goals, but checked at HT to see I hadn't fecking confirmed it. The odds were nowhere near as good at HT as they were before so I've just gone Belguim to win on pens, just over 10/1.

Haha yes. And don't forget Chile hitting the goal post in injury-time normal time!

I have gambled much bigger amount than this in the past. Trying to calm down a little now because of the unpredictability of this World Cup. Usually I bet 10x the amount you see in the Champions League because most of the big teams will win the group/advance to the knock-out and there are more matches so there is more hope of winning.

£100k? You must be a millionaire to be able to afford that, I can't see myself risking more than 10% of my monthly income on one bet and even that is pushing it.
