World Cup Betting Thread

tbf, I'm now officially up. Marginally, with bets outstanding tournament wide....and what I can only assume more £5 free bets from the Messi top scorer bet.

The betting "upsets" have been - Netherlands, Costa Rica, Iran double chance vs Nigeria, Mexico double chance vs Brazil, Chile, Uruguay and Costa Rica a second time. 7 from 22 games.

Don't care how overpriced some of these were or weren't. They were mostly upsets still.

To be honest this score for me is one of the biggest shocks of the tournament. I did not see this coming under any circumstances. Djourou and Senderos in defence is disastrous though.

Chile were massively overpriced, they've beaten Spain before. Mexico have an excellent record against a Brazil side who were fortunate to beat Croatia. Japan lack a cutting edge and Greece are strong defensively. Uruguay are simply better than England. Only real shock is Costa Rica in the last few days.

South Africa beat Spain in Nov last, do you mean to tell me you'd lump on South Africa to beat Spain had they bean in the world cup?

Never heard such rubbish in all my life

Spain we're favorites and odds on to win, they came into the tournament and performed poorly because they changed their set up...but suppose I copped that late and thought they'd turn it around against chile

Japan lack tuting edge? rubbish again...they've been scoring over 2 goals per game average... Ok Greece are defensive but they still lost 3-0 to colombia and 2-0 to Korea...not that bloody strong defensively

Uruguay got thumped by Costa Rica, huge surprise...yeah I expected them to beat England and backed it up with 2.5 goals in a bet...

Your talking rubbish mate!

Hindsight is a wonderful thing ;) easy to spout out this after its all happened!

Chile are a good team. That was always a dangerous game.
Japan were shit against the Ivory Coast.

Chile deserved to beat them though and give every good team they play a tough game, as they've shown this tournament. You can't compare their victory to South Africa's.

Have you watched Japan or just base it on stats? They struggle against teams that sit deep with banks of four, Greece excel at that.

I don't disagree that Costa Rica beating Uruguay was a surprise.

The Japan one wasn't an upset either way. Chile was, end of. Don't even know why you are debating it. Were they seen as dangerous and everyones favourite dark horse? Yes......but Spain were still being seen as a likely winner by most of that same crowd protecting themselves.

Spain's squad is one of the strongest I can remember of any team. I haven't even heard of 6 of Chile's first XI. It's an upset. 40/1 from the outset to win it shows the bookies thought so too.

My opinion anyway. This WC hasn't been bad for singles but there has been 1 result a day that hadn't conformed to expectations of the masses which has ruined most bets for the foolish like me!

Spain were the favourites pre-tournament but when it became apparent that Xavi and Casillas' decline was going to have a significant impact on the side and Costa wasn't going to be upto scratch, I think it's fair to say the game could easily have gone either way without being particularly surprising. Hence why you had lots of people saying Spain were going out of the tournament before the game, on here and elsewhere.

Suppose Spiersey predicted 5-1 to Holland, cause he knows everything after all

your just coming across as a wum!

Crazy world cup, Im done with this thread and any bets...doing few accumulators with me last few quid and thats that!

Can't wait to get a few tips from this Walsh geezer pre-games though, then I'll take note of "nope" after the fact.

No one is saying they didn't deserve to beat them they well and truly did! I'm saying it was a huge upset... almost every day there has been an element of surprise in one of the 3 matches...meaning it effects any doubles, trebles, accum, dual forecasts, top scorer, outright bets people may have on.......

Everything your saying reads like its easy to say that now..........

No one could have predicted holland winning 5-1, no one was expecting france to be this good, ffs France as a whole said they expect them to come right home from the groups! No one could of expect 3-2 for holland against Aussies, dont think anyone expect costa rica to beat not only Uruguay but also to be Italy today

Thats just off the top of my head, there have been other crazy results also.....

Nope, he even stated in his post the exact reason why it's not very surprising.

I'm guessing you were all over France -1 then?

Just because a team has two poor CBs doesn't explain this domination. The Swiss could hardly pass the ball to a team-mate the whole first half. Considering how both teams have performed over the past 4 or so years, that first half has seriously surprised me.

I don't think he's saying he knows who was going to win every game etc
It's just that it probably would have been wise to miss out on betting on that game seeing as Holland do have some quality. Spain being favorites meant very little in a game like that.

Well I backed France to win and also did France 2-0. I'm not saying I expected quite this one-sided a game but there have been several more surprising results.

Don't believe I claimed to know everything, nor did i predict a 5-1 to Holland.

Nope but you seem to suggest as per your opening post "all the favorites are winning" which is complete and utter crap!!! Sounds like something Moysie would say, bare faced lie and you know yourself that you don't really believe it... yep just like Moyes!

Spain, Italy, Uruguay, Ghana have all suffered shock results... Belgium, Switzerland and even Argentina struggled at times already. Its completely and utterly unpredictable.

The only thing that seems to have some element of consistency is over 2.5 goals (as has been mentioned by other posters on here)...

Every other market seems unpredictable really...

God damn ref. Gives Cabaye a yellow for a nothing tackle and ignores Debuchy doing the same at least half a dozen times.

Actually I said 'the favourites are winning' in reference to France. There's been surprising scorelines but not as much surprising outcomes as people claim. Belgium and Argentina both played poorly but still won. Switzerland similarly.

How often do you watch Ghana? They're not great, losing to USA wasn't a shock, could have went either way.

Over 4.5 yellows in this game for me. Honduras will probably play dirty again. Two reds last time these two played in a friendly and the ref has history of lots of yellows. He booked 11 players a couple of games back in his native league.

I'm still going for BTTS in the next game now, despite Honduras looking pathetic in the first game.

Both teams need a win as they face the two strongest in the group for their next games so 3 points is a must. Reckon Ecuador will win it, but Honduras will be threatening on the break.

Going with an even quicker start this time. Ecuador leading the first 10 minutes.

Few stupid bets to ease the pain of this match....

draw ht Honduras ft @13/1
Ecuador to win from behind 10/1
Valencia to score anytime 6/1
Espinoza to score anytime 14/1
Both teams to have a red card 20/1

Argentina, Germany and Bosnia all to win @ 2/1 at Coral.
