World Cup Betting Thread

I agree, today's matches are very difficult to judge. I'll probably have a couple of bets in play.

I've just withdrawn from Paddy Power the amount I originally lodged and have about 20 quid left to play with so, as a bit of fun, I'm happy with that.
 
It turns out I can use the free bet on William Hill. I'm on Italy to beat Costa Rica at 4/7 for 25 quid, then I'll probably use my free bet on France at 10/11 - even if it doesn't come off I'm not losing actual money.

William Hill is definitely my last go at this World Cup. I lose this 25 quid and I'm out. Screw big bets though, not going to put more than 25 quid on one game until the end of the tournament unless it's Argentina v Iran and Brazil v Cameroon. Can't afford another big loss.

Tempted by Italy -1 today. Not really sure about it but I got a feeling it will be a route for them. For $30 it makes some sense but then again I won't play anything for Ecudor v Honduras and Switzerland v France and possibly not much tomorrow so I'm not sure if there's a point in still betting at this tournament.

By avoiding bets I'm forcing myself to make for the sake of it. Games like the Spain - Holland or Brazil - Mexico one for example were too tricky to call. Also keeping away from handicaps. Saying that, I am tempted by Italy -1 as well.

It's probably where I've come short. I didn't need to bet on Brazil v Mexico as I had a handy profit on that day anyway and had a bad feeling about it - yet I still put money on it. Likewise Netherlands v Australia - wanted to put money on Netherlands to win, instead I went with -1. Yesterday I wanted to lay England then ended up betting on them. Chile v Australia - had a 2.6 spot on on Chile -1 yet decided to cash out and put the whole amount on Chile -2 because the odds tempted me and I thought I could win quick - lost all my profit from the other bet. Lack of patience and putting too big amounts is where I have gone wrong.

Uruguay v Costa Rica is one game I wouldn't have predicted under any circumstances. Baffling result.

If I win the Italy bet I'll have 40 quid plus one free bet of 25 quid and one 5 quid free bet for using their Android app - I'll be putting those 25 quid on France at 10/11 if they manage to credit it to my account by then (Italy v Costa Rica would have to be settled either way and it can take up to 24 hours although I'm hoping sooner), I'll get to keep only the winnings from that bet so no point in using it on lower odds bets. The 5 quid will go on something crazy.

Yeah, I normally go with my gut feeling. Yesterday for example, something was telling me that the Colombia game wasn't going over 2.5 goals. At HT I felt a little vindicated, however obviously it did end up going over 2.5 goals. I'd rather watch the game stress free and lose a potential bet, than actually losing a bet though, so it's not too bad. I also had a feeling Japan were going to draw yesterday, so I left it. I already had them in a long shot accumulator from a while back though so that sucks.

I think Italy and France will win today though. Hopefully Benzema carries on his good form.
 
Quick question: I'm seeing slightly different odds for 0-0 final score vs no goal scorer in all games. Why the difference? Are OGs a factor?
 
They are yeah. No goalscorer still wins if the only goals in a game are own goals, while 0-0 bets lose.

Yeah I always tend to go for no goalscorer. I know the chances of an own goal being scored is always reasonably low, let alone being the only goal in the game - but if I genuinely think a 0-0 is on the cards, I think I tend to go no goalscorer.

Better odds in it too it seems. Take Italy game for example, 0-0 on WilliamHill is 10/1, while no scorers is 11/1.

That's a strange one, Paddy Power gives the 0-0 as the better odds. Which makes more sense as an OG affects the score but not the goal scorer.

That is strange :lol: I double checked with WilliamHill and they definitely offer more for no scorers :wenger:;)

I'm going to put it to the test too... you seem to have the knack down and are making profit. Handicap betting is new to me tbh, only really started it at this world cup, one or two small wins, some loses too of course!

Been reading up on different sites (studying :lol: ) so I'll try it in the 5pm kick off and see how I get on :)

Find it odd that Italy over 56.5% is 1.571, and Costa Rica under 43.5 is 1.70.

That is the exact same bet. Or am I being an idiot here?

Don't they put the bonus on your account AFTER you've settled your first bet? I'm supposed to get a £25 bonus from them but will only receive that after Italy game at earliest.

going with over 9 corners in the next 2 games and honduras to get atleast 2 more cards than ecuador. Returns 7.9

France to beat Switzerland
Ecuador to beat Honduras

Bosnia to beat Nigeria

Colombia to beat Japan

£25 returns £1523.75. Just for the laugh seeing as I'm pissed of with this World Cup betting wise anyway (loving the football though).
