World Cup Betting Thread

I'm going to start my own little betting challenge. Going to try and turn £25 in to £500 and then repeat.

£25 Russia win @ 5/6 returns £45.83.

After this I'm going to be picking selections around 1/2 odds until the bank roll hits £200 or so then odds of 1/3 or 1/4 will be selected to be safe.

Wish me luck.

I intended to do that then put money on Brazil today. Nearly all profit completely gone, took a punt on Russia -1 at 3/1 and it doesn't seem like I'm going to win.

It's incredible when you look at how many poor results this Korea side have had recently and today they look like they would give anyone a game!

Today I learned that the official Fifa stats are ridiculous.

I guess there's no action possible against an official match document?

Cashed out for £25

£10 on South Korea @ 5.5 then £15 on Russia @ 2.37.

Edit: Only put £5 on Korea and nothing on Russia.

They were terrible defensively with little to no creativity, now they're bossing the midfield like Spain and defending like Italy 2006. Not to mention Russia actually want a 0-0.

I was flirting with putting something on S.Korea a few minutes ago! They were 5/1 amazingly and I even deposited the £5. Typical.

as long as its russia i will take it. why the feck are they shooting from distance all the time.

Started off with a tenner that was left in my account and gonna see how much I have by the end. Have €17 at the moment with a few 'to qualify from groups' accies on.

Any tips on how what strategy to use? At the moment just putting 50c/1euro on stuff that is approx. 2 or 2.5, but its slow at the moment cause you dont make much off 50c so its easy to lose it again. Was thinking of changing and putting on less bets but more assured ones with a fiver and look for best at around 1.5, but one or two bad ones and I'm gone.

Accumulator

Brazil vs Cameroon
Holland vs Australia
Argentina vs Iran
Spain vs Australia

= Winner

Just under evens.

So glad I fecked Russia off at HT right now.

Not messing about tomorrow:

Holland
Croatia

£20 double, just under evens.

Belgium and Brazil - lost
Belgium and Russia - lost

I'm done with the group stages. All my pre-tournament profit gone.

Pretty much all profit lost. This World Cup is a roller coaster, I go from zero profit to around $200 them back to zero. I think I'm done with it for now, had a look at fixtures left in the group stages and there's very little that I could be on - maybe Australia games, Argentina v Iran etc. but that's about it and there's no value in them. I will leave with a tiny profit and good memories, particularly from Ghana v USA.

Some very bad decisions from me during the tournament, with proper cashing out and not trying to win heavy on every single game I'd be much better off. For example today I intended to lay Algeria, Mexico and Korea then decided to pay some money out instead and back Brazil to win then Russia to win.

World Cup's never easy to bet. No major tournament is really.

I think there's some good value coming up to be honest. Columbia will be too physical for Japan, Ivory Coast are a good price vs Greece, Croatia will probably beat Cameroon, Bosnia will probably win their last two games, Holland and Spain will probably win their remaining fixtures, think Argentina will win the rest of their games etc.

I've done shite in yesterdays and todays first two matches, then saved myself my lumping on over 1.5 goals in both the evening matches. Took Ghana 83 minutes and Russia 70 odd... too risky a strategy though, need to try and find value where possible instead of half-guessing every match

were you on oscar pass accuracy over 73.5% as well then?

everywhere has him as 83%+ except for fifa who somehow came to 73%, what a joke

Well that's me done with the betting at this World Cup fk all has come up for me.I know they say it matters more when theres money on it but I find myself willing players to score first even though they are playin shite willing teams to score when you know the other team deserves it more all in all even though its small stakes I cant relax or enjoy the games.I wish everyone all the best with their bets but self preservation is where its at for me anyway so Im going to enjoy the rest of the tournament bet free.

That didn't get off to a good start then!! :wenger:

I stayed away from the Russia match, didn't know enough about either side. Was far too risky.

Start afresh now today, Goals a plenty again probably in Group B.

You english guys are really obsessed with betting arent you? :D

You will always lose more than you win if you play long enough.

Last night cost me a fortune and I imagine I'm not the only one.

Still 13 open bets, although Uruguay fecked two of them and already have more money than at the start.

Same is true for me. I don't want to watch games all stressed out willing the team I don't actually support to win. Yesterday I'd have supported Mexico if it hadn't been for the bet, I was anxious through the whole Russia v Korea game even though it should be a relaxing experience.

Besides the fact that I'm constantly ranging between zero profit and $200 profit is infuriating as well. Perhaps I'll deposit $30 or $40 in the following two days to have some fun with it but that'll be it for the tournament.

That is safe? Don't see Spain winning by more than a goal.

I am thinking of a safe Spain, Holland, Croatia to win. Will check the odds when I get back home.

Should be decent I think. Netherlands are around 1/4, Spain should be around 3/5 - likewise Croatia.

I don't think all 3 will win though. Cameroon or Chile could cause an upset.

They can win 2-0, it'll be a tough match for them but after the Holland match I expect to see a different Spain turn out. I think the 3-1 scoreline for Chile flattered them a bit, people are forgetting the Aussies put them under a fair bit of pressure in the 2nd half and Cahill had a goal dissallowed also, that would of put the game at 2-2!

If your wary of Spain / Chile, can change it to (-1 draw), ups the odds to 9/1 on PP.

Holland will win by 3 or 4.

Cameroon & Croatia I think may be a draw, 1-1.

Hmmm, Thanks for that. Will be finalizing the bet when I get back home and see the teamsheets.

I might lump a few quid on Holland, Spain and Croatia too, just not expecting to win the bet. I might get Holland -1 (should be around 3/4), Spain and Croatia - putting $25 on it should return around $120 I guess.
