With Antony signed what’s our front 3?

Martial is the only one who can turn with the fecking ball without getting dispossessed.

I go to my original post. He's never fit. His attitude and application over the years has been an absolute disgrace. I don't doubt that at times he can actually carry the ball, but that doesn't take away from the fact that we need a new number 9.

Honestly, some posts on here reaffirm my belief that half the Caf have never been to OT to watch Martial live. Certainly not more than once. It's bafflling.

By all means lets pin our goalscoring hopes on him this season, and see how it turns out.

Correct. I’ve seen more than enough of Martial to happily put my money on two youth prospects, who we should be progressing - otherwise what’s the point?

And somehow you are in this thread making out like the people who would rather play Martial over two 18-year-old kids (with literally zero senior appearances between them at any level, let alone one of the top leagues in the world) are the ones being irrational. "We need a new number 9" and "Martial is the best number 9 we currently have" are not mutually exclusive statements.

Also strange that your analysis of what said teenagers would offer to the team as center forwards boils down to "sticking the chances away", as if that's all we're lacking - if nothing else, the strong signs that Martial is the manager's first choice ahead of Ronaldo (one of the best goalscorers in the history of the game and still a potent finisher) should indicate it's not.

I haven’t given any in depth analysis of said teenagers, and right now don’t have to. The fact that they would actually be available to play aligned with Martial’s glaring inconsistency, paltry goal return and pitiful attitude over the last few years - yes years- say enough. Rashford, Ronaldo and even Tony himself were all completely untried and untested at some point. To indicate him getting picked ahead of Ronaldo during the current window is something of an indictment to support his long term inclusion is laughable.
He will let us down. Nay, he already is. Injured again I see? Sorry mate, but nothing will change my mind on him. He should have been shipped out a long, long time ago.

You are either not reading or deliberately twisting my (and a dozen other people's) posts into a straw man to continue ranting about Martial.

Fair enough. I'll leave you to it.

If all are fit, it is definitely going to be our SAM Machine - Sancho, Antony, Martial
Ronaldo can provide cover for Martial who tend to have injury issue
Rashford, Elanga and Garnacho will provide cover for both wings and they got to prove themselves that they deserved to be given the chance.
SAM or SAC (k)
C for Christiano :)

I'm doing neither.

Then tell me how you've read me saying 1) "We need a new number 9" and "Martial is the best number 9 we currently have" are not mutually exclusive statements.", followed by 2) " the strong signs that Martial is the manager's first choice ahead of Ronaldo (one of the best goalscorers in the history of the game and still a potent finisher)

and twisted it into me saying the fact he's been picked ahead of Ronaldo right now is " is something of an indictment to support his long term inclusion". This thread is about picking our best front three right now, and loads of people have laid out precisely why it is that they think Martial (despite his long-established weaknesses) is the best option to lead the line. You don't want him at the club - that's great, but he's here, and if you're going to say you're baffled to see so many people including him in the XI, you will be expected to offer an alternative beyond "toss Hugill in there to stick chances away" (worth pointing out here that neither Ronaldo nor Martial were "completely untried and untested" when they made their debuts for us - both had at least a season of top-division football under their belts before we signed them for eight-figure fees).

You're making up your own arguments to win, just like you did in the exchange from post #220 onwards where someone else tried to engage with you.

But you've confirmed exactly my point? You cannot just say 'despite his long-established weaknesses' like a throwaway comment, as to why he shouldn't be anywhere near our starting lineup. This is exactly why. I absolutely would rather Manchester United tried a youngster in the first team than continue to give time to a player like Martial who has repeatedly thrown that back in the face of our paying public. You may not agree with that, no problem. The arguments that he should be considered as first choice front three simply because there are no other immediate options , to me, are completely irrelevant because he himself should not be an option and should have gone a long time ago! This is not difficult to comprehend surely?
The rest of your post I find includes undertones either to prolong the point for the sake of it, or for the drama which frankly isn't required. I haven't actively 'twisted' anything for goodness sake. And I certainly couldn't care less whether I 'win' or 'lose' any 'argument' on a football fans forum. This may have crossed your mind, but it hasn't mine.

Given Martial's fitness issues, I reckon the one we'll see most often is Antony Ronaldo Sancho, and Ronaldo will be the top scorer.

Sancho----Ronaldo----Antony.

And thats damn good to be honest. I'm sure Ronaldo will knuckle down now he's staying (it sems so anyway), and will give us 100%.

I think we’ve come to a point where Ronaldo’s 100% isn’t enough anymore. He’s physically not capable of being the main man in this system and his presence will continue to be a hindrance to the way we want to play.

He’ll still score some goals, but he will also hold us back.

We'll see Sancho, Rashford, Antony most often because Martial can't stay fit. But we'll be frustrated with Rashford as 9.

Ronaldo is finished but we're stuck with him in the squad.
Two months on but sadly spot on on Martial.

United doesn't play with a 433. It's mostly 4231 so the front men are Sancho, Bruno, Antony and Ronaldo
