Wingers/Wide Forwards - Our best options?

We should slap out balls on the table again and go full retard to get Reus and Bale. And Strootman and a new defense.

Falcao
Bale - Rooney - Reus
Di Maria - Strootman
Shaw - New - Defenders - Rafael
DDG

Then win every game 11-5.

Dont need reus if we got bale imo. Depay will suffice.

Not sure if anyone's mentioned him, but what about Kevin Mirallas? Quick, direct, skilful, creative, scores goals. Everything you'd want from a winger really.

He's probably not worth what Everton would ask for him atm though. Good player without a doubt, but apparently lacks brains from what I read on here.

If we can't get Reus, we might still benefit from his transfer.

If he goes to Madrid, maybe they'll want a huge cash figure for Bale (or even Ronaldo) or at least we could bid on Jese, who's really dangerous from out wide coming towards goal.

If Reus goes to Bayern, maybe we get Robben or Shaqiri.

I decided to tweak the thread title slightly and bump this as the striker thread is getting too bogged down in pure #9's, when I think the aim will be to bring in forwards that can play wide in a front 3 with one of them also capable of operating as a #9. As opposed to the media version which is "1 winger and 1 striker" in base terms, LvG has said on more than on occasion about his love of multi-functional players.

Off the players we have been linked to I'd say it breaks down like this:

Wide Forwards
Memphis Depay
Fellipe Anderson
Roberto Firmino
Gareth Bale
Robert Kenedy

Strikers who can play wide in a front 3
Paulo Dybala
Edinson Cavani
Saido Berahino
Gabriel Barbosa

It is difficult. There is a huge shortage of top class wingers and most teams are happy having one. Chelsea has Hazard, City Silva, Arsenal Sanchez, then Bayern/Real/Barcelona are the only three teams with two top class wingers and it is a big reason why they are the best teams.

Vietto should be in there aswell, shouldn't he?

I've seen quite a few media outlets linking us with him, are you only counting the reliable ones?

Oh no, I don't consider any of them reliable. :D I honestly hadn't seen us linked with him, just posters on here like myself saying he'd be a good option.

Too British a name. Do not want.

Said last season that we should have picked up Sanchez because he was one of the few remaining top wingers. LVG will have a really difficult time creating a 4-3-3 team now. Even if he could handpick any two wingers who aren't already at a top club it wouldn't look too fun.

Bellarabi, Firmino, Thauvin, Mbida, Draxler and so forth are all good players but we need at least one pure dribbler and that just doesn't exist of the ones who already broke through.

I think we should look for one of the greatest dribbling talents who isn't necessarily already a made out star and give him time to grow.

On the topic of wingers, any Serie A watchers that can tell me what has happened to El Shaarawy and Lorenzo Insigne. How have the 2 of them been this season before getting injured?

If we are to play a front 3, It would be interesting for Di Maria. I think he'd be better in the middle 3, and we are rumoured to be after a big signing for that area too. You would imagine we would play with one sitter, so if Herrera also establishes himself in the midfield, Di Maria and new guy would be competing there.

Anyway, wide in a front three I think Dybala looks the best combination of flair and goals. After him, Depay seems most touted, and I like Douglas Costa and Lucas Moura, as they give us a different kind of threat, although won't get 15-20 I reckon.

I think we may need two wide forwards to balance things tbh. I'd take a Moura on one side, but then someone more ruthless like Depay or even Berahino on the other who can genuinely get 20 goals from there.

What ever happened to Lucas? How is he getting on at PSG?

Can Wilson play as a left forward in a 4-3-3? If Rooney plays center forward its always going to be a very fluid set up anyways.

He's been their best attacking player this season and has matured a lot.

Well, he was a certain starter and their best attacker during the period when Ibra was injured. Since Ibra returned, he has been the best attacker and unfortunately and not deservedly - Moura has been seeing the bench quite a bit.

PSG has to find a way to start him though, he's been great and they aren't a better team when Cavani plays as a winger. It is difficult for them, Ibrahimovic needs a miracle to stay at this level considering he's 33 and carrying around that weight must tear on his body a lot.

So they need to keep Cavani happy, so it is a bit of a paradox for them. Play the best team - or upset Cavani who is already being played out of position.

I thought the only reason he has not featured over the last 6 weeks or so was due to injury?

Yup, he got injured against Caen and hasn't played since and they had no substitutions left. Prior to that he came on from the bench 5 times with 20 mins left more or less. Zlatan and Cavani are the clear first team members and then Moura/Lavezzi are battling out for the last position with Pastore as well.

Moura has started 20 - Lavezzi 14 - Pastore 11(as a winger). Moura is certainly the one who looks to be winning the spot but I wouldn't consider him a dead certain starter just yet. Can't wait until we get to see Moura in every game though, he had so many haters after his flop seasons but he has shown that you can get benched, mocked and then still grow in your own pace and become a top player.

Ah I see, I didn't realize he had been on the bench that many times prior to the injury, that's a really odd call given how well he was playing, and their attack has looked less threatening in his absence. The sooner PSG can shift Cavani and his massive wages the better off they'll be, but with Zlatan's age they may plan to hold on to him and move him into the #9 spot in 18 months or so.

Lucas really has shown good mental strength, and it's great to see a young player improve the issues in their game and mature as opposed to having great games here and there but making the same old errors regularly.

Agree completely. I had given up hopes on him myself last year as he played quite badly when he played and he looked like one of the players on his way out. It is always fun to see players mature from the bench more or less, something we rarely get too in football.

Moura has the 10th highest average dribbles per game this season in Europe and considering how hard it is to find that type of players right now they got a gem there. Hopefully they have no space for him and we decide to go for him, he's right now at that level where he can beat defenders whether they stand still, double up on him and not just the ability that he had earlier of beating them when he had built up his pace.

We should try to swap Nani for Felipe Anderson and sign Memphis.

Get Depay and Reus and we're sorted, we could get both for less than 60, considering their contracts and financial strengths of their clubs..

Januzaj, Depay, Reus, make-shift diMaria looks pretty cool and balanced to me, Young can cover LB, LW and diMAria would get most of his games in midfield.. the question is what to do with Nani, he could get into top form in late stages of his career sort of like Robben did..

Bale, depay and bring back nani

Get rid of RVP, falcao and chicharito.
