Wimbledon 2012

He had to lose one, he has just won over the British public far better than he would have done had he won.

Come on Andy. For Scotland, Britain, and St George ;)

He's like Obi Wan Kenobi. Defeating him only makes him more powerful.

Don't understand the hate he gets at all.

I suspect his speech at the end will win him quite a few fans though.

Baby doll features - not my cup of tea. Murray's first serve was atrocious - no way he could win with that percentage. Fought hard for three sets and lost it a bit after that.
Needed to break one of those close Fed service game in second to win. That 7-5 Federer second set win was huge. Fed was having a stinker before that.

As with the England football team, it's the fact that the media build him up and he's supported by a bunch of odious twats, more than actual hate for him.

You would think Murray had killed some of these posters family members the way they're getting on.

I know - weird pseudo-racism that some of the English have against Scots coming through I reckon. Even more laughable when you consider we're all essentially from the same gene pool.

Shame for Murray. He may not get another great chance like that again. Federer is good but he was beatable today.

It's kind of ridiculous Federers actually played 10 times more than both Djokovic and Nadal too, 52-6 at this stage of the year at 30 with this talent pool is utterly brilliant.

Just listening to Talksport and Des Kelly, who along with Tim Henman were winding up Andy Murray about Scottish Football. His joking retort was to say he wanted whoever England were playing to win. They all laughed about it. Until Kelvin McKenzie and The Sun, surprise, surprise got hold of the story and twisted it. I refuse to read The Sun. At least this lad has a personality, not always good, but a damn sight better than Squeaky clean Tim. Good luck to the lad.

Murray's first set which has generally been consistent this tournament, let him down big time in the final. Unlucky, he's got a major in him somewhere. On the other hand, Kate and Murray's bint were looking simblyy.

feck the Middletons (as in, 'feck off' to the Middletons). I'm absolutely sick of seeing them. They might as well have had a split screen with them on one side and the actual fecking tennis match on the other.

As much as I like Murray and wanted him to win, some of his fans are annoying at times. I've got a mate now arguing it's only a matter of time because he's better than Nadal and Djokovic on the hard courts. I don't actually know if it's sarcasm or what.

 What a load of shit. Most of the hate in this thread has come from people outside the UK.

Unlucky Andy Murray, did himself proud. He'd probably have won a major by now if he wasnt British, something about brits and failure at sports it seems. Pressure got to him.

The fact he's getting to finals, is actually a world class athelete and can give the very best a run for their money should be commended. Love him or hate him (which it seems a lot of people do, english people at least) you have to respect him.

He'll win a slam, would have been great at wimbledon but Federer is the greatest of all time, he beat the world number 1 in the semis and beat Murray in the final. Can't knock that but it's hardly another stick to beat murray with.

 Yup you Scots are always all for England in every way.

We seem to like the lovable loser, they don't like it when lads like Murray actually don't like losing. Don't take any notice of the snipers Andy.

Wow, I'm exhausted. But I'm so happy for Federer. This one is extra special as a fan given how long it's been since his last and the records he's broken in doing so. The man is something else. I feel honored to have supported him for as long as I have.

As for the the match, I thought he started extremely poorly but showed great mental strength to somehow grind out that third set. The drop shot on set point was class. That for me changed the match. He needed it to change the momentum a little and to shut up the fans as well. After that he just took his game to another level. For him to be doing all of this at 30 and reaching number 1 again is phenomenal.

As for Murray, I still dislike his game but I thought he came across well in the interview. Seems a humble chap who clearly cares about tennis a great deal. And I was impressed by his performance as well. Didn't wilt under immense expectation and his level was pretty high throughout. However, I think Federer's snipe at him sometime ago was the best advice for him to heed. He needs to be more aggressive. I know the courts these days favor defensive tennis players and hence everyone likes to sit back and get things into play but you have to in certain parts of matches change gears even so.

I think he's better than Nadal and possibly level with Novak on the hard stuff.

Federer is one of the most ungracious losers ever. Andy need to look at that , not accept losing. Hope this drives him on.

He's just not though. Novak is a level above him on them and has won the last 3 hard court grand slams. Nadal has been the one competing with him the most and reaching the finals. I can see logic that he might eventually be up there with Nadal on them, but if Djokovic keeps up his current levels Murray will never be as good as him on them, or anywhere near him.

what's football got to do with tennis? i don't get it at all.

I dont want England to win because it's football... i don't expect england to want scotland to win either, some people will and some wont but football is a historic game where we've been rivals, obviously played down now but it's bragging rights and banter. Do i want England to win the world cup or the euros? absolutely not, do i hate the english? not at all.

I like and get behind many english atheletes and sportsmen, i love Ronnie O'Sullivan, I support english boxers like Froch, Hatton, Haye etc...

I don't hate individual people based on there nationality or identity, but football is a different thing all together.

Ladies and gentlemen, cases for and against the independence of Scotland shall now be heard.

Such a myth. Everyone has a dark side which comes out when things don't go your way. In this tournament alone, Nadal has complained about the opponent moving when he was serving which was nonsense and chest bumped him which was one of the least classiest things you'll ever see on court. Djokovic only the other day after losing to Federer stated "I haven't been feeling so good of late" followed by "I don't want to talk about it, though". Really? Then why bring it up?

In the end they're all human and I wouldn't hold any of that against them.

And I disagree about Murray. What makes you think he does accept losing? Today he fought all the way to the end and given his reaction in the end he doesn't strike me as someone who is going to accept it ever. At the same time, people overrate things like that. It's a pre-requisite. It doesn't win you grandslams. Playing the right tennis does that. While I don't like his style he does need to do exactly what Federer said he doesn't do enough of - take more chances. While I concede he can't alter his whole game, he needs to pick moments to do that IMO.

It's true he's not a great loser. But then again, he is a winner more often not.

That's true, but here they think you should lose with a big cheesy grin on your face. Why the hell should you. If you're upset show it. As long as he can learn to channel the aggression into his game and not affect it.

I don't think Murray does, that is what I like about him, he isn't Mr Goody Two Shoes. Mr Stiff Upper Lip. Has a bit of edge. He desperately wants to win. That's good.

I thought the interview with murray was cringe stuff, obviously he had to do it but you just know he'd rather be somewhere else. It was very simelar the other times he lost in finals, he broke down and you can see how much this all means to him.

I have to give him so much credit, tennis is littered with players who arent champions, who are happy enough to lose, happy to be there etc but Murray who is 4th best player, has millions in the bank still has so much desire to win the big prize. If Britain produced more people like Andy Murray we'd be a much greater sporting nation than we are.

Well said.

I think people read far too much into this stuff.

"Man up"

"Get stuck in"

"Don't accept defeat"

For example, if Federer fist pumped like many players do there is no way he'd be called a choker like some people laughably do. It's actually a case of pure laziness to look beneath the surface at what the real reasons are and instead cling on to something convenient to conclude.

Actually Andy Murray doesn't actually need to change his game to win a GS. I think he'll do so anyway on tonights evidence. He's good enough to beat the top 3 if they have a slight off day. If he wants to increase his level and win more than that then I think a slight alternation to his game/strategy is required.

Doesn't do what? I agree with the rest. I don't think his general frame of mind is an issue.

I like sportsmen who are not content with mediocrity. Murray is that. He wants to improve, he knows he has to improve..he has a major in him.

Like losing, I was speaking about the Henman's etc. The ones who one on the tennis circuit and can't get out of the first round of Wimbledon. Our LTA is terrible. Murray had to go abroad to progress in tennis. If he had stayed here he wouldn't be as good as he is.
