Wimbledon 2012

Looking pretty bleak for her now. Hope she can turn it around, would be a shame for her to go in the first round.

Good to see she has pulled it back to one break down now so at least she is now fighting hard for it and whatever happens she will learn from this.

Indeed. At 5-1 down she gave herself too much to do. Glad to see some spirit from her though.

From the few times i have caught her playing over the last couple of years Robson is starting to develop into the womens game and a bit more experience in conjunction with working on strengthening her game/skills will see her keep improving the way she needs to. At least she will learn from this loss and take positives out of it to work on.

Nadal starting very slowly today with Bellucci 4-0 up in first set with 2 breaks of the Nadal serve and Bellucci is going for his shots which so far are coming off at will.

Nadal getting in to his stride and stepping it up a bit. That tie-break at the end of the 1st set was nice

Nadal should never have won that match. Very very rusty and poor.

Bellucci choked badly in the first set. A Tennis player who can't volley. Couldn't believe it when I was watching.

Nadal is always shit in the first week of Wimbledon. Adjusting from the long clay season to grass. Usually his game is still just about good enough to get him into the 2nd week where he really picks it up.

Just watching Federer hammer shots down the court, it baffles me that women earn the same amount in this game, for doing considerably less work. Even in his increasing age and supposedly declining powers I still love watching him. Fantastic player.

Paszek aka. Tits McGhee is doing well.

Best sight in sport watching Federer in full flow.

If they brought back the courts as well Karlovic would give Murray a real hard time.

I think they slowed it up so much that serve/volley is no longer a viable strategy. Basically to pander to Nadal et al.

Do you think it's affected Federer?
I think it would help him if they were faster he was never a serve/volley merchant but had a much better all court game than Nadal, Djokovic and co. I hate watching blokes playing from behind the baseline like girls on steroids.

Same here. And I always suspected this was the case. It's silly. You're basically promoting baseline play only rather than an all round game. But with me being a federer fan I won't go on about it :)

Another part of the reason for the courts getting slower as with the changes to the shoes over the years these caused a lot of damage to the old grass type. So they made a new mix up which survives the tournament better but it had the effect of slowing the courts down. They were talking about this in Murrays last match when they showed a close up of the dimpled bottom on the shoe and that change to the shoes being part of the reason for the changes.

Either way. Imagine Pete Sampras struggling big time because defensive baseliners have extra time to pass him with ease. Just seems wrong and unfortunate to me. People keep going on about men's tennis being in such a wonderful place. I'm not so sure. You're promoting one kind of tennis which is really lame and takes the variety out of the game.

I don't believe that the court has been changed to benefit a certain type of playing style. It's been changed because back in the days by the end of the 2nd week the players were playing on a pile of dirt.

I also don't buy into this that the court being slightly slower is the major reason why there are no GS contending serve-volley players. The top players these days are much more athletic than before, with the current world no.1 and no.2 being the most athletic tennis players of all time. The top guys in the sport are faster, more athletic and thanks to current racquet technology able to hit shots that used to be considered impossible to hit.

Back in 2009, Federer who won two GS that year and was runner-up in the other two, lost against Djokovic, who back in 2009 wasn't nearly as good as now, on the fastest court the top players on the tour play on in Basel, despite Federer being considered a more skillful player than Djokovic. They're simply very good at what they're doing:

Nah, Wimbledon were strongarmed into changing it to benefit the boring baseliners forgetting that it's LAWN tennis not clay/hard/carpet tennis.

Garry Richardson must be the most cretinous interviewer ever employed by any television network. Moron.
