Wimbledon 2011

Well I know that Hewitt and Nalbandian have beaten him in 5 setters early in his career. Nadal beat him in 2008.

Fed's record in 5 setters is pretty poor. 16-13. Is he just not strong enough mentally?

I'm not sure I'd go that far mate, someone who's won as many slams as he has is clearly very strong mentally. And he'd only ever lost 2 matches previously where he was 2 sets up and this was his first ever such loss in a grand slam.

Roger is clearly not the player he once was but I still think he'll win one more slam before he's done although I'm not as confident in that prediction as I once was. But at his prime he was incredibly mentally tough as is witnessed by all the winning streaks he had going. It had to end sometime as age catches up with all athletes.

Murray takes the 2nd set 6-4 and Lopez is looking more and more like a rabbit caught in a cars headlights, he has no clue what to do out there to counter the way Murray is playing. A good performance from Murray so far his serve is working, his tactic's are spot on and not that much energy expended in the first 2 sets.

Depends on how many of those 5 set losses for Fed were early on in his career really, as you wouldn't expect him these days to do what he did today on any regular basis.

Off the top of my head...Federer 5-setters

W vs Sampras Wimbledon 01
L vs Nalbandian Aussie Open 03
L vs Hewitt Davis Cup 03?
W vs Agassi US Open 04
L vs Safin Aussie 05 - Best match ever.
W vs Nadal some hard masters 05.
L vs Nalbandian masters 05
L vs Nadal some clay masters 06.
W vs Nadal 07
L vs Nadal 08
W vs Tipsarevic Aussie 08
W vs Andrev US Open 08
W vs Berdych Aussie 09
L vs Nadal Aussie 09
W vs Haas French 09
W vs Del Potro French 09
W vs Roddick Wimbledon 09
L vs Del Potro US 09
W vs Falla Wimbledon 10
L vs Tsonga Wimbledon 11

I know he's beaten Haas in 5 somewhere before as well. So that's 21....with only maybe 2 being before he hit his peak

The Agassi game was a 4 setter IIRC.

So that's a 13-8 5 set record then overall and if we take the 2 out before his peak, as you have said, then it is a 12-6 record while in his peak. Not sure how that compares to the other top players currently but when you look at the players who have beat him in that time Nadal accounts for 3 of those losses.

Ah damit Fish wins the 3rd set vs Nadal 7-5. Nadal had a break at the start of the set and then threw it away and has been nothing too great since then.

Nadal is something like 15-3......2 of those being Federer and the other being Hewitt in I think Australia. Don't ask me to try and list his off, because he seems to have more randomly obscure 5-setter matches against nobodies, like the two he had last year at Wimbledon which for the life of me I can't remember either opponents name and Isner at the French....none of these matches were really any good because you knew Nadal was winning.

When he loses to a hot player....unlike Federer, he'll lose in 3 instead of 5(Tsonga brushing him aside as AO, and DelPo at the US before going 5 with Federer, the Soderling one don't count since he was clearly injured and off form in that.)

Too easy for Murray today. Unbelievable stuff really from Tsonga. Never seen Federer show such little fight or be dominated so much on a grass court.

Murray breaks early in the third set to go 3-2 up and hopefully the tweak he felt at his hip is just something that he is able to run off and is nothing more than just a tweak.

Nadal was taken to 5 sets by Hasse at Wimbledon early on last year. He's played 2 five setters vs Fed as well at Wimbledon and he also beat Soderling in the 3 day epic.

At the Aussie Open he's beaten Verdasco and Fed in 5. Then he had the epic match vs Fed at Key Biscayne where he lost in 5 and the game against Isner this year.

Can't remember too many more.

What did that guy just shout in the Murray match?

Nadal breaks fish in the 4th. Hopefully he won't lose concentration this time.

77% of points won overall on serve for Murray and 85% on first serve in, that's good going for Murray for the way he serves at times. He will need those sort of figures on Friday whoever he faces.

Murray through easily in 3 sets, with an idiot shouting 'come on you sweaty sock' just before the last serve to go with the other 2 muppets who shouted bollocks earlier. Completely in control, served well up all game with just a few poor serves down to the slight tweak and Lopez had absolutely no idea how to even begin to counter the way Murray played. Lets hope he is at 100% on Friday for the semis.

GSM Nadal. I'm so happy Fish played pretty well and proved all those people wrong who thought it would be a walkover :)

Anyway mixed performance from Nadal, some absolutely brilliant shots and some unbelievable errors but a great match overall.

So Murray vs Nadal yet again and Djoko Tsonga it is!

Matt Cronin
Nadal on foot: 'better, treatment worked. I'm fine.' On Murray: 'weve played playstation together a lot.' Kim & Xisca glare together

Rafa's thoughts on facing Murray in the #Wimbledon semis. "It's always an honour & a pleasure to play against."

There's so much mutual respect and friendship between Nadal and the other top 3 players. It's good to see the sport played in great spirit.

I think Nadal has to play a lot better to beat Murray, for me, Murray is playing better than Nadal at the moment

Wow Federer and Fish are out. The latter was not a big surprise but still. I hope Nadal can beat Murray now and maybe play Novak in the final.

It's kind of sad seeing Federer go through this, it's like Neville towards the end of his career.
3/4 years ago Federer wouldnt have lost that match in a million years.
The only way he'll win one last grand slam is if Nadal and Djokovic get injured at the same time and miss the same tournament.

Cannot believe Federer who is still consistently making grand slam quarters with ease just got compared to Gary Neville playing like an embarrassment who should of been sent off in like 3 of his last 4 games. This forum man, it's great.

Are you joking, Federer was fecking faultless 3/4 years ago, very rarely dropped sets at Wimbledon.
And its not the same, the top players essentially have a bye to the 4th round.
Rounds 1 to 3 they're effectively facing nobodies.
Yeah he got past round 4 but thats two years now he's gone out to players who arent even in the top 4/5 in the world.

His love of the game means he'll probably carry on for a few years and thats completely understandable but if he wants to be remembered as the all time greatest, he should probably retire in the near future.

Am I joking about what? You just backed up what I said.....essentially a bye or not....not many still make the QF's as consistently as he does in their peaks, yet alone when they are fading. Let's not forget that before this he made 2 semis and a final...and won the last Masters Cup, yeah.....it's embarrassing form.

I dont remember using those words but you're clutching at straws really, anyone can see he is nowhere near the player he was, I dont know how this can be argued against.
If United were to finish 3rd for the next 3 years and reach "Quarters" and "Semis", it would not be considered as success. It'd be seen as us being on the decline and rightfully so, same goes for Federer.

Just for the record I'm not even arguing he's on the decline......

The comparison to Man Utd is slightly better, I guess you made it because you realized how embarrassing the Neville one was.

Wimbledon's famous Court One could be given £80m roof to match Centre

Wimbledon officials will consider building a roof on Court One after the current championships demonstrated the value of the cover on Centre Court.

With more rain this year than there was during the 2009 and 2010 tournaments put together, the £80million roof on Centre has come into its own, guaranteeing play for Wimbledon crowds and the vast television audience the event commands.

It was first used two years ago and has meant this year, despite the many interruptions, the men's and women's singles remain on schedule to finish on time.

The All England Club are a long way from commissioning any plans to upgrade the second-largest stadium court in their grounds, which opened in 1997 after the demolition of the old Court One.
