Wimbledon 2011

Tsonga becomes only the 3rd person ever to beat Fed after losing the 1st two sets.

Can anyone tell me what is with players waiting for the winner before moving back to the locker room? We've seen Del Potro and now Federer do it.

Well done Tsonga, go on and win it.

As for Federer, as much as it hurts for me to say this, I think another grandslam might be beyond him. He was in brilliant form this tournament yet these losses in form in tough games are happening very frequently now and that's where he has gotten a lot worse.

Common courtesy. It was required for a long time but seems to have fallen out of fashion.

Yeah, seemed to have been an exception rather than the norm. In fact, couple of times players seemed surprised that players were waiting for them.

amol, I must say my view has changed on what we discussed. He does seem to lack a bit of fight and bottle. Too Berbatov-ish

I don't think he did in his prime. I think it's a recent thing personally. And it's happening frequently.

Would of liked to see another Nadal-Federer final, but guess that isn't happening again unless it's clay. Hopefully they'll be on the same side at the US or something. It'd be nice to see a Murray-Djoko/Tsonga final, some fresh faces never hurt.

With the exception of maybe his first year of dominance and few finals vs Roddick...he's never shown any emotion or "fight" before finishing the game. Maybe because he expects to win or maybe because it works for him that way(can't really argue with his form, even now for a near 30 year old). He's come back in 5-setters looking all laid back and not caring(Nadal final 07, Tipsaravic, Haas etc) and he's lost looking the same(Nadal final 08, today, Safin etc)

I have to agree. My fav player, but his play regressed a bit. He no longer wins the big points and it seems to me he can't keep up, especially when playing a five-setter. Nowadays in tough games he always ends up on the losing side.

I think there's still 1 grand slam win left in him though. However, it really depends on the competitors having an off-day and luck.

I'm not talking about showing emotion or fight.

His laid back exterior hasn't changed however while earlier on the big points he'd find the aces and winners, now he seems to struggle with getting his first serves in and hits the ball too short.

Also, does anyone think age has anything to do with it? He seemed to have little in the tank for the 5th.

The only thing really keeping Fish in the match right now is that great serve of his.

Totally. I believe he's better on this surface than Djokovic or Tsonga.

Djokovic won't drop more than a set to Murray imo. Murray's run to the semis against a bunch of nobodies is exciting people but Nadal and then Djoko will be far harder than anyone he's played till now.

I think he was so sure he'd won the match after the second set tiebreak that he couldn't adjust to what was happening. He was so immense against Novak in the French that I can't believe age had anything to do with it.

Agree, his main test in Wimbeldon is always the Semis!

I think you are overreacting a little, Fed has been immense since the start of french open (possibly the best he's played in over 16 months). Tsonga was just too strong today.

Then look at the French Open. Was competitive in the first three sets but the deciding set 6-1.

I think people are being a little too excitable in predicting the end of Federer just yet. Just a few months ago, he beat the man who had gone on a 43 match winning streak, including smashing Nadal 4 times this year.

It will be hard with the men's game as it is now but its certainly not all over.

Well he hasn't won a Slam since last Jan now. 6 in a row without a Slam and with Djokovic and Nadal going strong and with others like Soderling, Murray and Del Po it's not going to be easy.

Fish, who had held 164 out of 165 games coming into Nadal match, is broken 3 times to lose first 6-3.

Tsonga just had a poor opening service game. After that I don't think he faced a break point in his next 23 service games or something.

Did someone just drool at Lewis Hamilton.......................

Weirdest thread of all time, homers of tennis players, spambots and now Lewis Hamilton droolers ><

Murray takes first set 6-3 and completely in control. Other than a few self inflicted service mini glitches he has done well, 100% of serves won when first serve is in is good going. If he keeps these tactics up he will stay well in control unless Lopez can find a way to counter it Murray looking good for the semi.

Fed's record in 5 setters is pretty poor. 16-13. Is he just not strong enough mentally?

Depends on how many of those 5 set losses for Fed were early on in his career really, as you wouldn't expect him these days to do what he did today on any regular basis.
