Will this summer be the Busiest yet?

No and no, why would we sell a homegrown player who is actually local and has shown he can cut it in the Prem as a starter, without ever giving him a full chance at United?

Because for one who is he going to get in the team ahead of? Will he get in the team ahead of Rooney? Will he get in the team ahead of Berbatov? Will he get in the team ahead of Hernandez?

Due to the position United are in it's always going to be hard for any young player to get games week in week without mentioning that the club will always be in the position to bid for the rest of the worlds best players.

Secondly having had a season of first team football who's to say that the prospect of being 4th choice (at best) wont be a too underwhelming prospect for Welbeck.

Sell him this summer and get the maximum amount for him or keep him at the club playing forth fiddle to Rooney, Berbatov and Hernandez and sell him a year later for a fraction of the price?

He will be first choice with us. Berbatov won't be around forever. A space will open up in a 2-3 seasons. Staying on as 4th choice is not a bad thing. And he can play out wide in our 433.

I see no reason he couldn't challenge Hernandez for 3rd spot and both should be looking to put pressure on the 30 year old Berbatov over the next two seasons.

We might be in a position to buy the worlds best players but we don't seem interested, developing youth products is becoming even more the name of the game as the fees are getting stupider. We have our very own young talent who is still only 19, if he is smart and well advised he wont want to move before even trying to win a place at United.

We sent him out on loan to gain experience and develop and he has been outstanding for Sunderland, I see Fergie bringing him back and challenging him to make a mark for himself here, and even if Berbatov sees out the 3 years of his contract holding off Welbeck as 1st choice the entire time, Welbeck will still only be 22 with the bulk of his career ahead of him.

I mean he surely has as much chance as Macheda and Cleverly next season right?

Obviously in the future only god knows (:smirk:) but at the moment as things stand Welbeck isn't better than Hernandez so even with no Berbatov he'd still be behind Rooney and Hernandez

I'd agree that he's got as much chance as Macheda, but tbh I highly doubt he'll end up staying at United either. I reckon he'll go out on a season long loan next season before being sold. Unfortunately.

Cleverly is a different kettle of fish as he plays in a position that we're a lot lighter in. As the squad stands at the moment the general consensus is that we need another midfielder and that's without factoring in the possible retirement of Scholes and maybe after next season Giggs

Regarding your point about sending him out to develop whilst obviously not always the case we did that with Frazer Campbell as well only for him to be sold soon after returning from his loan, maybe sending players out on loan isn't always about making them better players for you? Do you think we sent Diouf out on loan this season with a view to him being in and around the starting 11/bench next season?

My main thought about Welbeck is because he's done so well at Sunderland so they want to keep him, because he wont get the same amount of games at United and because the fee will be quite sizeable I can see Welbeck wanting to move and Fergie agreeing to it

I don't think both of them will make it here but I see Welbeck as the more likely of the two, and Fergie likes his 4 strikers which will be Rooney, Berba, Hernandez and Welbeck next season IMO.

I admit that I haven't seen a lot of Cleverly but the posts from the lads that follow the reserves indicate he will play primarily on the wing, where he will have competition in front of him most weekends.

Fraizer Campbell never delivered for a Prem club when on loan the way Welbeck has for Sunderland though. As for Diouf, I don't even know why we bought him in the first place to be honest.

I'm sure Brucie will want him but I'd be surprised if he wanted to go or if Fergie would let him, it's possible both Fergie and Bruce have been playing the media over Welbeck and the fact we wont be selling him, but again I'd be very suprised.

If he stays you're probably right

From what I gather Cleverly will long term be a centre midfielder and he's simply 'learning his trade' out wide much like Fletch did when he first broke into the team. I may be wrong there though.

True but even more the likely that they'll be a lot of interest in Welbeck in the summer

I'd be surprised if he wanted to go

A bit a loyalty and willingness to fight for a place in the team would be nice to see but it seems young footballers these days have no patience. I guess we'll wait and see...

When most talk about him moving central it is as an AM in a midfield 3, but of course he could develop as a full CM, he has a lot of poetnatial either way.

I'm sure Bruce will definitely try his hand in the summer.

It's true that many young players are in too much of a rush, but I think the added fact Welback is local will sway things.

Pretty much the same as every summer? At least one defender, a goalkeeper, couple of attacking midfielders and a striker? Oh and a winger.. And maybe a defensive midfielder!

No chance, a goal keeper good enough to be number 1 for United alone will cost between 15m-20m

A midfielder again will be at least 20m

So if we only sign two players then IMO you're looking at least 50m and we certainly haven't got 30m's worth of players that will be going out

I'm talking about the net spending and we will generate some money from sales. Kuszczak will probably fetch £5m alone.

£15m plus £20m actually adds up to £35m, so we would only have to generate £15m from sales. I think it is possible that we will sell Macheda as well depending on how well he does in Italy and whether Sampdoria want to buy him. He is worth around £10m.

We certainly don't have £40m or £50m to spend.

We certainly potentially have that money to spend.

If we're talking of selling players, we'll have PiG for around 4 mil. We'd have Da Laet surely looking to move on for a million or so. We've already lost Gary Nevilles wages of the budget, and VDS wages will be gone as well. Which could save us around 4 million a year each easily.

Sir Alex Ferguson has revealed he is ready to open his chequebook next summer.

The recent transfer window closed with the only addition to Manchester United's squad being Denmark goalkeeper Anders Lindegaard, whose move from Norwegian outfit Aalesund had been completed a few weeks earlier.

But Ferguson has revealed he made an additional move that ultimately did not come off.

And whilst he is not specifying who his target was, or what position they occupy on the field, it appears the deal has only been delayed rather than abandoned.

"Billionaire owners have introduced a new world that is turning football on its head," Ferguson told United Review.

"For our part, we cannot afford to sit in an ivory tower. We have to face the challenge.

"It is a healthy competition and it goes without saying that we will not shirk it and I don't think we are doing so.

"Although I let the transfer window shut without signing a new player, that is because we did our homework some time ago and didn't have to rush into any emergency buying.

"We had an interest in one player, and I thought we had a chance of bringing him in, but the other parties involved weren't ready and so we have put it away until the summer.

:D

Can't wait to see who it is!

Ashley Young, apparently.

I wasn't so sure, but it makes sense if Obertan is shown the door, and with Giggs' impending retirement.

Decent player, fantastic delivery, pace, set pieces, English, good contract situation. He'd work in 4-4-2 or 4-3-3 as well.

How on earth have you come to that conclusion?

 at thinking we'd get 10m for Macheda

Oh and I know what net spend means hence why I said we wont bring in enough to limit our spending to just 20m like you think
