Just been having a think about all the possible activity that could be done this summer;

United With Neville and VDS both retiring and I have my suspicions that Scholes will follow them I think this summer we'll spend big following a couple of very quiet transfer windows

Areas to strengthen: Goalkeeper, Midfield
Potential Departures: VDS, Neville, Scholes, Carrick*, Hargreaves, Owen, Welbeck, Macheda

Arsenal Fabregas is surely off, Arsenal being Arsenal though probably wont replace him but his transfer will probably be the most high profile of the window

Areas to strengthen: Goalkeeper, Defence
Potential Departures: Fabregas, Bendtner

City They wont win the title this season so surely that only means more heavy spending? I expect Tevez to go so he'll be replaced, they'll probably spend big in midfield as well with the likes of Milner disappointing and Johnson failing to hold down a first team spot

Areas to strengthen: Midfield, Attack
Potential Departures: Tevez, Adebayor, Bellamy, Jo, Ballotelli, Roque Santa Cruz

Chelsea I dont think their spending is over, I reckon this season will be the last we see of Drogba as he's 33 and had a pretty rubbish season. Also squad players like Kalou and Ramires have proved that they're just not up to it

Areas to strengthen: Midfield, Attack
Potential Departures: Drogba

Spurs With Keane on his way out and Pavlawhatshisname wanting out as well they'll surely be in the market for a striker or two. Would be remarkable if they manage to hold on to all 3 of VDV, Bale and Modric also

Areas to strengthen: Defence, Attack
Potential Departures: Modric, Bale, Keane, Pavlyuchenko, Gallas, King, Woodgate

Liverpool There's a lot of suspected interested in Reina and with Torres gone could he be the next on the way out? Expect there to be a lot of arrivals if their new owners are willing to continue the spending

Areas to strengthen: Goalkeeper, Midfield, Attack
Potential Departures: Reina

*before anyone jumps on me for that I dont think he should be sold but his form isn't up to his previous high standards and it wouldn't be the first time we've shipped someone out when their standards drop

I dont think we'll do much this summer.

Neville is already replaced and we may not even buy another keeper, we have PIG, Lindegaard and Amos. And I dont think Scholes or Carrick will be leaving.

I agree about Drogba anyway, I can see him heading back to Marseille in the summer.
Hard to know with Chelski given a change of manager could easy happen aswell.

City are impossible to predict. They could do with getting rid of Barry for starters in they lose Tevez Id imagine they'll spunk a large wad on Aguero

Liverpool will buy a few players, centre half, left back, winger. I can see them offering Ashley Young a large contract.

Hargreaves is another expected departure that should be replaced.

We've coped fine without him for the last two years.

I'm not saying without him we are useless. We would probably cope "fine" without a few of our squad players, but it would still inevitably weaken us.

With a fully fit Hargreaves we are a better team, so when he retires/quits I'd expect Fergie to replace him or promote a youngster.

We'll strengthen, but not to the extent some people are probably hoping. I think SAF will still keep it low profile, but I'd say he'll have to at least get a proven GK. Owen and Hargreaves will surely go, I don't think many else will though.

Chelsea will continue to buy young(ish) I think, they've got the backing of Abram again by the looks of things, whether they'll still have Ancelotti is an entirely different question.

Arse will be Arse and just buy youth and keep that trend going. After Fabregas goes they'll probably make a 16 year old their captain.

Pool, well I don't really know, have they money to spend big? They really need wingers above all else. I think they're sorted in attack and Meireles is adding big time to their midfield. Could probably do with getting themselves a top defender.

Spurs will get a striker, no doubt, thing is I can't actually see many around now. They won't be in the CL next season either so it'll be tougher.

There's also no chance Fergie will let Welbeck leave.

Owen out = Welbeck in.

Wouldn't be so sure tbh, if a big money move comes in and Welbeck wants to leave we may let him especially if it becomes clear that he wont be getting football ahead of Rooney, Berbatov and Hernandez

Nah Welbeck will stay I think. He's the brightest young striking prospect we have right now, and that includes Macheda.

Not much activity from Utd. Hargreaves and maybe Owen will follow Nev out the door.

Welbeck and Cleverley will return from loans.

Maybe a keeper and a midfielder, cant imagine much else from us.

We got some good talent coming through with the likes of Wellbeck, Cleverly, Morrison, Pogba, Fabio, Smalling so can't see us making massive changes apart from GK, and a creative midfielder.

An ideal summer:

Bring in a keeper - Neuer or De Gea
Bring in a good young winger and central midielder - Sanchez, Pastore, Hamsik, Modric (all highly unlikely mind)

I dont think we need anymore than that.

Get rid of - VDS, Neville, Hargreaves, Owen, Gibson.

Keep Giggs and Scholes for one last season. Welbeck and Cleverley back from loan. Loan out Obertan, Macheda and Bebe for the season.

area most lacking at the moment. I can see SAF going for Modric

Er..they're retiring

It will be just as busy as other summers gone by. For United I can see 2/3 signings being made. A defender along with a winger & central midfielder.

I would not expect Fergie too spend big, just players that are needed for the right price.

We may have to spend bigger than previous seasons but maybe on one player.

The winger thing, I'd agree but more a leftie if there's a quality one about

I would love us to sign Bale but I can't see Fergie spending the best part of £35m on the guy. I do honestly think the Berbatov signing may be our last big signing (in terms of money paid) for some time until the transfer market is more realistic in value.

We've coped fine without him for the last two years.

There are plenty of times we could have done with him though. Rome for example. :(

Our midfield needs strengthening regardless of whether you view that as replacing Hargreaves or not.

Bale would cost a lot more than £35m.

Thats why Fergie says their is no value in the market. The transfers of Bent, Carroll, Torres will have huge effects on clubs who are targeting quality players as the asking price for those type of players will be far from realistic.

Daniel Levy would probably value Bale at around £60m

The way the market is now we cant afford to have that mentality if we want to stay competitive

We'll still pay £15m+ for very talented youngsters if necessary though. Nani and Anderson spring to mind. I do agree though, proven players over the age of 25 at a price of £20m or more, that's not going to happen anymore. Nor will overhyped players like Bale who'll cost £40m+

Exactly. If we want to sign top players we need to spend top money nowadays. If we dont, another club will.

See I'd imagine in this market 15m would probably get you the kid at Southampton however someone like Sanchez would probably cost at least 23m

We cant afford to only be in the running for 17 year old's who will take 2 or 3 years before being ready for the first team week in week out

yeah as well as VDS and Neville retiring

I think we'll let owen/hargreaves/PIG/gibson go in the summer - carrick could be another shock departure i think

the amount of players coming in wil depend on those coming in...

I think we need;
a goalkeeper
a playmaker midfielder
a sitting/central midfielder
a left sided attacking player

and along with welbeck and cleverly coming back our squad should be set for next season

i think the problem position is the left sided attacking player position - there aren't exactly an abundance of good left sided attacking players available - shame we didnt get in there for silva

also to buy a playmaker unless we unearth a diamond we are going to have to pay a fortune for someone of the class and mould of sneijder

midfielder - think we'll go british here but unsure about rodwell/henderson

maybe a shock move for someone like scott parker if west ham go down?

Not a chance, he's 30 years old!

In what way is Welbeck a potential outgoing? He will return from loan and become a big player for us in the coming seasons. The same applies to Cleverley aswell.

Good to see there is some sense in the transfer forum.
