Will SAF use this moment to speak up?

Nah, he know where his bread is buttered. That being said, given who he is and what he’s done for this club many supporters would be hard pressed to actually hold it against him. Like many, my own sentiments are conflicted - he’s the GOAT that built this club into a global institute, but he’s also got a hand in its fall from grace. On one hand you are at awe at how he won so many titles, on the other hand you wish he didn’t still meddle with club business.

Its the money. Anyone I know who is very very close to the old guy would say the same thing. He's a genius in terms of everything football related, he's got high morals (some of the stories I heard about his love towards family as a concept would stagger you) but he loves his money.
 
His petty dispute about a horse had a big role in the club being put up for sale. People in glass houses.
 
He’s 80 year old man who nearly died from a brain injury. Yes his reputation will always have the Glazer asterisk attached, but seeing as he gave us so many of the best moments of our lives, let him sit this one out without judging too harshly.

I wonder how he talks about the club in private now. Obviously there was that line about Ronaldo being a sub when he was in conversation with Khabib.

I’m shocked nothing else has ever really got leaked from all the people he must be talking to constantly at matches, dinner engagements etc.
 
I don't really care about anything Fergie does or says, but not in a bad way. I'm just grateful for the good times and accept that he's part of the past of the club, not the future.
 
It’s a shame he never spoke up in 2005. With proper backing after selling Ronaldo, we’d probably have another European title.
 
SAF definitely has his thoughts on this, but there was a reason why he left the club, so he can have time for other things in life.

Can't require from him one thing. He owes the club nothing and he still supports it in harder times.
 
Nope and don't want it from him, he is the past and we should be moving on from that past to make new glory.

There's a big difference between slagging them off or sucking on their teat. SAF knew when he more or less was going to retire and should of been preparing to leave the squad in the best condition as possible. That all crumbled when he went on record saying there's no value in the market and what we where eventually left with was a geriatric squad that was basically disbanded a season after he left. How long did that set us back? Everyone can make up their own mind.

With regard to the squad, we've had plenty of opportunity to improve that effectively over the years however decisions have been made without a clear direction.
 
Let the man enjoy his retirement, A much as we love him, I can't help feel his constant presence in and around the club isn't always a positive these days. The issue with the Glazers is a tough one for him, his issues with the previous owners opened the door for them to get in.

I'm fully in agreement with you but by leaving a decent squad and bringing in the right manager we might of had a chance to move forward instead of playing catch up the last decade. SAF failed us in both departments as much as it pains me to say.
 
No. He’s a genius who is in questionable health. He loves the club and I love him. I want him in a place where I know he’s still around.

I think it is probably a generational thing, Sir Alex and the other people he mixes with are likely in their 70s and 80s (I think Bryan Robson is 65) if my parents are anything to go by older people prefer not to air their dirty laundry in public and when they gossip - as I'm sure they do - it is very much to be kept between them and their close friends. Plus, they aren't on tik tok, insta, twitter etc.

His time to do what he wants, if he wants to speak up fine but other than that he has earned his time off.

Yes a total myth. Magnier and JP were only interested in making a profit. JP follows Arsenal and apparently never went to an United game. Magnier only went to Old Trafford once.

He has a tight circle of friends and they're the ones who will hear his true thoughts. Everybody else he probably just bullshits and makes throwaway comments like the one about always playing your best player.

Which makes his presence (or lack off) more frustrating. United fans had lost their club because of his greed. He should try and make it right
 
I think many of us still think of Fergie as he was when he retired, but it's worth remembering he's now 80. I don't think much could or should be expected from him by way of changing the status quo at this point.

I don’t think it’ll happen. If a sale happens, the Glazers will shuffle out and it’ll all be about looking forward and how much potential there is at United etc the day after they leave.

Probably the best thing to do rather than dwell on the past.
 
Even if something like this were remotely possible, he wouldn't just come out and say "yeah, I think you should sell".

The question is who they should sell to.

For the umpteenth time: "Glazers out" means feck all in and of itself. If you think that "Glazers out" is better than any alternative, you really need to do some more thinking.

I Don’t know his personal situation, but he dedicated a huge part of his life to the club, he’s even said he wished he’d been there more for his kids. What I imagine he’s doing now is securing (a) their financial legacy, which is fine in my book, and (b) perhaps he sees that he can have more influence from within.

Either way, I’m not judging the man. He has his reasons and that’s good enough for me.

Agreed. After all he did for the club I don't think we should ask a single thing more of him, or judge him for not taking on the Glazers or whatever.

The guys in his 80's. Leave him be.
 
He's getting paid by the Glazers, so fat chance. This is why Rangnick speaking up got him booted out - the rats don't like people that they pay delivering the home truths publicly.

What does speaking out against them accomplish? Absolutely nothing, you are still in the same pickle. All he would do is lose his position as someone they respect and is sufficiently close to influence their thinking and decision-making.

Nah, let's have him yapping in public and expect the Glazers to listen to some randomers hanging blankets around. Way to go!

Cause they had enough sense to stay out of his way. He had his run of the place, and rightly so. The club lacks leadership now because nobody has the stones to grab the organization by the neck and drag it forward.

I think what most people are trying to say is that United must move on from Alex Ferguson and how he would do things and the United way which has probably hampered the club from modernizing, no one can say a bad word about what Alex Ferguson did for the club but at some point you do have to leave the past behind.
 
No. His argument with the Magniers might make him feel responsible in whole or in part and thus complicit.
