Will Federer Win Another 'Slam'

Winner or loser it was a pleasure to be able to watch these two great champions face off in a slam final for what'll most likely be the last time. A trip down memory lane of some of the greatest tennis slam finals in history.

Federer may well be my favorite ever sportsman, impressive given I don't usually find Tennis that exciting. The word 'Legend' is used too sparingly these days but he is one for sure.

Too 'sparingly'? Surely too frequently.

I can't be the only one who keeps seeing this thread title as ''Will Ferrell Wins Another Slam''.

Let's see if Fed keeps a light schedule and focuses on the remaining slams. He will obviously not fare well in Paris, but may have a enough juice to make a serious run at Wimbledon and possibly do well in New York. If he wins a 2nd slam this year then he's definitely retiring at year's end.

You think? If he wins a 2nd this year he's one away from 20. Which would surely be tempting for him.

I think this is probably his last slam win but he simply has to have a go for another 2 years given the way he's able to make finals and semi finals. I'm writing the French off for him. Can't see him doing much there at 35 against younger legs.

If he continues at this level there's really no reason for him to retire anytime soon. The only reason he came into the Aussie ranked 17th was because he didn't play for 6 months.

I'm also waiting for some unknown teenager to come out the blue and take the tennis world by storm. Its been ages and we are overdue.

Only one I can imagine pulling it off is A. Zverev.

Hope that Fed continues playing for another couple of years. He surely is capable of doing so, and really, should be able to do very well in Wimbledon (maybe even win it if Djokovic doesn't reach the final).

He should go only for the Grand Slams at this stage. Maybe even skip French Open because he has no chance there, especially not with Nadal being returned to top form.

Yeh, have to agree
But was wrong about this one

Another question along the same lines

Will Tiger Woods win another slam??
Can't write off Tiger, but the competition is brutal these days. Tiger was quite great at Bahamas before X Mas but is struggling now in his last two starts. Don't think he will win another one really.

It's a tough one for Roger now because the stars sort of aligned for him in this one ( Andy and Nole out), plus he's fresh and injuries free going into AO. I hope he can pick up enough points during the clay season to have a better draw at the SW19. Statistically his win percentage at Wimbledon and AO are his best, so if he's to continue it'd make sense to pace himself for these two events.

Realistically, he probably can't win another one if Murray and Djokovic don't both combust, but the chance might come if he can keep himself hovering just below them in the rankings. The same is true for Nadal, but I'd fancy him to win another French.

It would be difficult for him to defeat Djoker, but I think that he is more than capable of defeating Murray in Wimbledon.

Also, it depends if Djokovic returns to the top form or not.

I see it as a lose-lose situation for Roger if he plays in the French. He will most likely come up against either Nadal or Djoko and he will have a tough time getting past one (or both) those players. Plus it would add so much more fatigue. I'd rather he skips French and backs himself on grass in Wimbledon. One more at Wimbledon

On the other hand, he has nothing to lose (apart from rankings), so he might have one last go at the French :wenger:

federer has to be considered a master on the level of mozart, michael jordan or hawking. this is not hyberbole. there are so few people that are as good at anything as he is at tennis.

I can't imagine him not playing in Paris if this is his last year. Also, he is technically on step two of a slam, which he almost certainly won't win, but he would be daft to skip the 2nd step should he somehow win Wimbledon. He would be going into the Open kicking himself for having skipped RG.

Also missed RG last year, which means he's guaranteed to pick up ranking points even if he only reaches the third or fourth round, which will further improve his seeding going into Wimbledon.

Were there any reports of this being his last year?

What's the bit in bold?

I don't think this is his last year. Pros generally only retire when they are on an irreversible downward slide. He's playing well, obviously enjoys it and bar the top two he has as good a chance, if not better, to win a Slam as anyone else. There's nothing to lose here because his spot as the GOAT is already cemented so he should keep trying as much as his conditions allow, physical and mental.

He can do with cutting back on the hard court seasons, however. Those are the most demanding physically. Wimbledon should be the priority, although I'd love it to see him win another USO.

Hawking? He's far away from being among the greatest physicists of all time.

What about Kyrgios if he can sort out his demons? (Not a teenager but still young)

I think he's already too far up his own ass. Can't see him pull off a major.

True. His response to being dumped unceremoniously out of the AO was 'people forget that I already beat most of the top guys'

Such a massive waste of talent, the absolute bellend.

No Hawking is not "far away from being among the greatest physicists of all time". Who the greatest is can be up for debate, but for anyone to casually mention him amongst the best is perfectly fine in this context. ... And you know it, so Im not sure what your beef is.

Hawking is nowhere near Mozart/Jordan when it comes to physics. He's not even a top 5 current physicist let alone all time.

But yep, Federer for tennis is almost like Jordan for basketball.

I really can't see the stars aligning the way they did at the Aussie, but I guess you never know. If that burden has been lifted off him he might play very freely and give himself a puncher's chance. Odds aren't good, but I think, on his day, he could take out pretty much any player at Wimbledon, possibly with the exception of Djokovic.

Alright fair enough about Hawking, but my general point was that across all genres of expertise Federer should be considered a great.

Having to face Nishikori, Wawrinka and then Nadal in the final is hardly a dream draw though TBF

In what aspect starts aligned at Aussie? He defeated 4 players who were in top 10 (it is the only time this has happened), including his arch-enemy.

He should go for Wimbledon. Djokovic is not playing as he was doing a couple of years ago, and I would say that he is the only player better than Federer in grass. I fancy Federer to defeat Murray in Wimbledon, and he is quite better than any other player in that pitch.

I don't watch tennis often before but when I watched Roger at his top form, where his back hand shots was impeccable. Always seem to land one at the very corner where it would be the most difficult for any opponent to counter. That was really his top form though because during his low form, he seemed to always skied the back hand shots.
