Young and Valencia's wing play killed us at times last season because they were too predictable. This guy however is a breath of fresh air.

Wiltshire's a different type of player and a different type of hype. It was obvious that he was always going to be a really really great player while the hype around Zaha is that he has the potential to be one of the best.

Quite.

Zaha was being horribly underrated on here, by people who clearly hadn't watched much of him. But it might have gone a little far in the other direction. Ironically, after a performance which was by no means his best.

yup, but he was still pretty good and clearly Motm, the most important thing though, people actualy watched the game and saw a glimpse of what he's capable of, which is why there's suddenly a lot of "realisations" across the forum, atleast that's my take on this.

Agreed.

I can't tell if you're fishing for pedants with this or not, but it's a pet hate of mine so consider me hooked! WILSHERE.

Maybe. Probably but Wiltshire has had the benefit of premier league football to showcase himself.

There's no way Zaha has been as exciting as Wilshere, who when 18, was putting in MotM performances for one of the biggest clubs in the country. Let's not be getting too carried away here.

I could see him walking into the side to be honest. Welbeck and Cleverley managed to do so last year even though many doubted they would. It doesn't mean he will be an instant success though.

That was under Fergie though, and he'd seen them develop. Who knows what Moyes thinks of the lad?

Not fishing, I'm just a spelling retard. I'll go with Jack n future. ;)

As I followed up with here Cina,

Wilshire's a different type of player and a different type of hype. It was obvious that he was always going to be a really really great player while the hype around Zaha is that he has the potential to be one of the best.

I agree that Jack was always going to be destined to be a top player but I think the potential is there for Zaha (if not he hype) to be on of the best.

I do have to keep stressing here (for the benefit of those who love to read part of posts) that I'm not going to be expecting him to be another Ronaldo but the basis and potential is there.

I think, quite frankly, the hype around Zaha on here is absolutely absurd, people are going so utterly overboard with their expectations of a kid who has been playing Championship football. Let's just wait and see how he does, even in his first season, before saying he's potentially one of the best.

Potentially he could be, and the signs are looking good at this stage. His all round game is strong, he's confident, and his attitude in regards to pushing himself as a player, and his willingness to bringing the best out of himself sounds good. It may take a while, and no-one is denying that, but he has everything in his game to be a success at United, and with the calibre of player already at the club, he will improve. Huge step up for him I know, but he has given us reason to be excited, and for us to believe that.

Dashing down the wing
He's our new one trick pony
O'er the pitch he glides
The United way
Zaha-ha!

(That's to the tune of Jingle Bells, if you can't guess it)

actualy, it's not, because the hype isn't as huge as you sum it up to be. take a closer look at the posts and you'll realise most people are just saying he has the ability to be something special, and that's something I happen to agree with.
Noone's saying he's gonna be our next Ronaldo, just that he has a lot of skill and thus a high potential. You have to admit some of the stuff he's able to pull off is already amazing and not something most people are capable of doing, even if he still has a long way to go. And he's definitely not lacking in confidence and it doesn't seem he shies away from the ball in big games either (from what I've seen so far)

He has that special something that only a few players have, and he's only 20 years old, plenty of time to mature and improve his all around game, he could be a flop but he could also be a major success because what he's already got is something that can't be taught, it's something you either have or you don't, while like I said the other parts of his game can and will continue to be worked on. The ceiling is definitely high, but no one's "guaranteeing" anything.

Yeah Cina. I even purposely said "I do have to keep stressing here (for the benefit of those who love to read part of posts) that I'm not going to be expecting him to be another Ronaldo but the basis and potential is there."

The difference between potential and expectation is huge. Tons of young players worldwide have this spark at a young age but only a few go on to really really excel.

Has anyone posted highlights of his game play in the final? If so could someone link me please

I read what you said Irwyn, and wasn't ignoring it, nor specifically aiming my latter posts towards you, but I've read stuff since the match yesterday that sort of baffles me. The long term idea that he can become an excellent player is one thing, but posters coming out with this notion (I've seen a few) that he's the solution to our woes on the wings, as early as next season, and will displace Valencia, Young, whomever on the wings (next season!) is just mental.

Cool. I said for a while that he could see match time 20 times next year but I see him starting the smaller games and potentially coming off the bench when we have games won.

Of course people are going a bit over the top now because he's a fancy player. But its still obvious he can bring a lot to the team that we were missing last season and if Nani does indeed leave, its not as far fetched to think that Zaha could be his direct replacement as it sounded a while ago.

Think he is exactly the type of player Moyes would have liked at Everton. A young player proven at the lower levels. His talent is obvious enough and Moyes may mould him as one of his own players rather than a player he inherited from Fergie.

Randomly, was listening to a podcast today and they mentioned us and of us signing Zaha and I wondered why the hell were they going on about Louis and surely that's years ago

Departing Manchester United chief David Gill says the signing of Wilfried Zaha is all about keeping an English core to the squad.

Zaha was signed in January before being loaned back to Crystal Palace for the second-half of last season.

“It’s quite interesting that for England recently we had five players in the team, which is good for us," says Gill, in the club's official new book Champions 20|13.

"The backbone of Manchester United has always been this way. Matt Busby had it and Alex [Ferguson] has nurtured it himself – this mix between British or English players and foreigners – and that’s what this club is about.

"It’s going to be a big learning curve for him [Zaha], he knows that. But I think he’s going to be an exciting Manchester United player; that’s our view. He’s something different. He can beat a man, he can play in the middle or wide. It’s great for us."

What we can expect is that Zaha will have an incredible first season but get "found out" in his second season, or what we in the US call a sophomore slump.

I'm really excited about seeing Zaha and Ronaldo work together. Better put your seat belts on, boys and girls!

He's going to do well in his first season I reckon. And I'm lookin forward to watching him play. He looks am entertaining player and should add more flair to us.

I think he could make light work of the lower placed teams when he comes on. Whether or not he even plays against the top teams remains to be seen though.

When a 20 year old is your best player in getting you promoted, you know that 20 year old is goooooooooood

When Palace lost Murray because of the injury, there was some dark clouds above Holloway but he just trusted the boy and now they have the cup and the promotion.

Moyes can trust him as sir Alex already started believe in him, months ago. He looks extremely determined to make an impact. It will be a good sign for Young and Valencia to start building their optimal form.

:annoyed:

I think he'll grow and become very good for us after xmas. He has the determination and self-belief seemingly. I'll be surprised if he doesn't fulfil his potential here.

Just hope people are prepared to be patient with him. I doubt it though.

It'll be interesting to see him playing with more freedom at United compared to Palace. He'll frustrate the life out of us at times but I think he'll be a useful addition in the end.

There will be hoards of the usual bunch that write him off this season.
